GLOBALISE - Weights and Measures in the 18th-Century Indian Ocean World
This dataset provides information on weights and measures used by the Dutch East India Company (VOC). The dataset is meant to be integrated into the GLOBALISE infrastructure, to serve as reference data and to facilitate query expansion in full-text searches of the archives of the VOC.
This dataset contextualizes units of weight and measure which were drawn from the eighteenth-century 'Memoriën van Munten, Maaten, en Gewigten als dezelve op Batavia en op de respective Comptoiren van Indië in gebruik zijn'. To (re)use the dataset and to know more about its scope and contents, please consult the documentation and the data-envelope.
The dataset consists of three different files:
File 1: Glossary of weights and measures
File 2: Labels for weights and measures
File 3: Conversions for weights and measures.
There are two file types for the conversions (xlsx and tab). The xlsx file gives a clear overview of the conversions, the tab file is principally meant for re-use.
The documents in the current version of the dataset (Version 1) are dated May 2024
Opening up? Exploring motives and needs of students and staff of a Dutch university on disclosing mental health issues to inform decision aid development
Decisions about disclosing mental health issues can be difficult, especially in the university setting. For this reason, students and staff of universities might benefit from decision support tools, such as the use of a decision aid. Currently, little is known about if and how people in this setting disclose and how decision support should look like. This study aimed to address this gap by exploring disclosure experiences and preferences for support.
Semi-structured interviews were conducted with staff (n=10) and students (n=10), including participants who decided to (not) disclose their mental health condition. The participants were asked to complete a short questionnaire. Subsequently, they were interviewed about the decision to disclose and their needs regarding a potential disclosure decision aid. Interviews were analyzed using the Framework method

Exploring unintended pregnancy journeys among women with psychiatric vulnerability using interpretative phenomenological analysis
Background: It is known that women with unintended pregnancies (UPs) experience many challenges. Women with psychiatric vulnerability may face specific concerns regarding the transmission of psychiatric vulnerability, parenting skills and bonding capacities with their offspring. This study aimed to explore how women with psychiatric vulnerability experience UPs.
Methods: This is a prospective qualitative study using semi-structured interviews during pregnancy and after delivery regarding the experiences of women with UPs and psychiatric vulnerability and involved partners. Follow-up interviews were conducted three to six months after delivery. Interpretative phenomenological analysis was employed to analyze the data.
Results: Women with psychiatric vulnerabilities described unintended pregnancies as complex events, often marked by ambivalent pregnancy intentions, concerns about generational trauma, and fears about parental adequacy. The pregnancies triggered heightened psychiatric symptoms, resurfacing childhood memories, and concerns about stigma, yet also motivated participants to seek support from mental health professionals and trusted others. Women adopted coping strategies such as focusing on the future, seeking distraction, and accepting support to manage emotional challenges. Across pregnancy and postpartum, many participants reported developing strong prenatal and postnatal bonding with the newborn, creating safety nets, and making intentional behavioral changes to support their babies. For several women, the unintended pregnancy ultimately fostered personal growth and contributed to an improvement in mental well-being.
Conclusions: This study elucidates the experiences of unintended pregnancies in women with psychiatric vulnerability. Our findings show that for women with psychiatric vulnerability, UPs may also become a window of opportunity for treatment, personal growth and create a safety net for the baby and oneself. This work may help mental healthcare providers to support comprehensively expectant parents who decide to continue UPs
Global Extreme Poverty Dollar a Day
The extreme poverty rate represents the share of the people in a country below a poverty line. Here two such lines are used: a cost of basic needs approach following Allen (2017), and the short cut approach of the 1.9 dollar-a-day. The estimates cover the period 1820-2018 (yearly)

Electronic Repository of Russian Historical Statistics, 18th - 21st centuries, https://ristat.org/, Version I (2020): Russian Empire Historical GIS Maps (1897)
These GIS maps were created for the visualisation of data on Russian social and economic development from the late 18th to the early twenty-first centuries, available at: https://ristat.org/. The current dataset, pertaining to the Russian Empire in 1897 (both district and province or governorate boundaries) has been cleaned and prepared by Rombert Stapel (IISH). The file format (Geopackage) is an open, non-proprietary, platform-independent and standards-based data format for GIS and can be opened in most GIS software applications
