Desalination of stone with water using the vacuum method

    No full text
As part of the thesis, an analysis of the effectiveness of stone desalination using the vacuum method was performed. Many of today's conservation-restoration methods of desalination are very effective, such as chemical methods, baths with distilled water and poultices. However, some of them require a lot of time, materials and resources. In further work, the vacuum method with tap water was tested on limestone that was extracted directly from the sea. Determining chloride in samples that go through the vacuum process will show how successful the vacuum method is, how much time and material the process requires until the stone piece saturated with salt is stabilized. In most cases the stone is porous, full of micro and macro cavities, desalination with the vacuum method will show acceptable results. The method was tested referring to previous analyzes and good results of using vacuum for the purpose of consolidation and desalination. The vacuum method through procedure was compared with the desalination method in a water bath in order to more easily compare the speed of the method and the amount of tap water used for the entire desalination process. This research should contribute to the profession of conservator-restorer because of its simplicity, efficiency and speed of this type of desalination procedure

Gregorian quotations and paraphrases in Mass Cum Jubilo by Maurice Duruflé

    No full text
The subject of my master's thesis is closely related to the Gregorian Mass Cum Jubilo which through the composer pen of French composer Maurice Duruflé is experiencing a new momentum in the artistic transformation of the given Gregorian Mass. The original version of the Mass was written for solo baritone, male choir and orchestra, and for practical reasons, according to the composer himself, reduced versions were also written. This master's thesis is based on a reduced version for solo baritone, male choir and organ. The essence of Durufle's music, including this mass, is the Gregorian chant manifested through quotations in the vocal part of the bariton section and organ section and also through the use of compositional paraphrasing techniques and canons. Mass also contains impressionistic elements such as ostinato, polytonality, and parallelism. Durufle's Mass Cum Jubilo op. 11 it's a perfect example of a combination of different musical styles and traditions, without deviating from church norms and instructions prescribed by liturgists, church musicians, bishops and representatives of pastoral clergy

„Nepredvidljiva“ smjesa je popucala i time naglasila doslovne i simboličke pukotine. Realizaciji rada prethodilo je umjetničko istraživanje čiji je proces vrlo individualan i eksperimentalan jer dopušta maksimalnu slobodu pri umjetničkoj interpretaciji i vizualizaciji. The theme of this undergraduate thesis is the fragility and decay of cultural heritage, as well as the restoration and conservation efforts seen as symbolic healing of heritage. The current state of the Orlando’s Column in Dubrovnik, which despite numerous renovations remains damaged due to various disasters it has faced throughout its long „life”, inspired me to use the intertwined relationship between form and content through visual language to tell the story of the „afflictions that plague“ this medieval knight. The work depicts two recognizable scenes from the monument, while the third scene is connected to tourism and the popular series Game of Thrones, which was filmed in Dubrovnik. The works, executed in a hybrid medium of relief and painting, are made with a mixture that resembles human skin, thus personifying Orlando and highlighting the fragility of cultural heritage in need of treatment. The „unpredictable“ mixture has cracked, emphasizing both literal and symbolic cracks. The realization of the work was preceded by artistic research, the process that is highly individual and experimental, as it allows maximum freedom in artistic interpretation and visualization

In this thesis important events in the life of the Finnish composer Jean Sibelius are presented in chronological order, as well as the circumstances in which his great works were created: from the political state in the world and his home country, through the music scene in Europe at the turn from the 19th to the 20th century, all the way to the composer's private and family life. Numerous Sibelius's compositions are listed and the more significant ones are described in more detail. The thesis about the most important attribute of every composer – his musical expression and style – extends through the entire work

Conservation and restoration of the renaissance stone coat of arms of noble family Dražojević - Jelić from Omiš

    No full text
To podrazumijeva opis zatečenog stanja, sve odrađene analize i uzorkovanja, procesi čišćenja, zaštita kamena, izrada kalupa i rekonstrukcije te završno patiniranje umjetnog kamena. In the permanent exhibition of the Museum of the city of Omiš, there is a stone coat of arms dated to the middle of the 16th century that belonged to the Poljić noble family Dražojević- Jelić. The coat of arms was originally located on the front of the family house in Omiš, but during the 80s it was removed due to the complete restoration of the house and at some point it was stored in the Museum of the City of Omiš. This paper will present the historical aspect of the stone coat of arms, its migration and all the conservation and restoration procedures that have been carried out on it. This includes a description of the found condition, all analysis and sampling, cleaning processes, stone protection, mold making and reconstruction, and final patination of the artificial stone. Instead of reconstructing the polychrome layer on the artificial stone, an assumed digital vizualization of polychromy was made in Photopea program, online version of Adobe Photoshop, in order to have an idea of the original appearance of the stone
