Pedagogical role of amateur mandolin societies in Croatia
Rad sadrži i istraživanje provedeno među 15 amaterskih mandolinskih orkestara, čiji rezultati ukazuju na značajnu ulogu amaterskih mandolinskih društava u osobnom i glazbenom rastu njihovih članova. This paper explores the pedagogical role of amateur mandolin societies in Croatia, with a focus on their impact on the professional development of musicians and their contribution to music education and the cultural life of the community. The concepts of amateurism, professionalism, and semiprofessionalism are examined, and the historical development of mandolin societies is analyzed, including a case study of GMD Sanctus Domnio. The paper also includes research conducted among 15 amateur mandolin orchestras, with results indicating that amateur mandolin societies play a significant role in personal and musical growth of their members
Conservation-restoration of ceramic pottery from underwater archeological site Letavica on Pag
Jadransko more obiluje arheološkim nalazištima. This thesis will present and describe the conservation-restoration works carried out on ceramic objects that were found on the island of Pag, not far from cape Letavica. The Adriatic Sea abounds in archaeological sites. A large number of them date back to antiquity, when the ancient Greeks and Romans colonized the area. Letavica is no exception. The site was found only recently, in 2018, but the archaeological research of that ancient shipwreck began very quickly. About 400 amphorae, the lead crossbar of the ship's anchor, were discovered, and by opening the probe in the sea mud, about 30 objects belonging to kitchenware surfaced. These items were sent to the conservation and restoration workshop in order to prevent their further degradation. There, they were subjected to numerous restoration processes such as desalination, mechanical cleaning, reconstruction, consolidation, etc. in order to stabilize the material and prevent its further deterioration
Fragments of time: Between photography and painting
This work was realized in the form of a patchwork installation. The background of the installation is composed of two types of canvas sewn together, suggesting that the work is not finished and can be built upon indefinitely. The work stems from reflections on the concept of time and its interaction with our memories of everyday moments that often slip away from our consciousness, remaining unnoticed. The author compares ways of retaining and preserving precious memories through photographs and raises questions about those incidental moments that preceed them,- and that are often side-lined in our memory. Through this work, the author transforms these everyday moments. She attritbutes to them significance that we typically associate only with ‘major’ life events. By transferring photographs onto fabric, the author establishes a connection between photography and painting. In this work, the photographs transferred onto canvas paradoxically attempt to mimic painting, creating a link between the two media and their roles in the history of art
Collaboration between guitar players and composers
Biography and works by Pavle Dešpalj, formal and performative analysis of his concerto for alto - saxophone and strings and arrangement of the first movement of the concerto for saxophone ensemble
U ovom radu iztražit ću život i karijeru Pavla Dešpalja i formalno- harmonijski i interpretativno analizirati djelo. Pavle Dešpalj was one of the most significant and talented croatian conducters with an enviable career in Croatia, USA and Japan. In his relatively small opus, he left one of his best works to saxophonists, which quickly became very popular in the entire world – Concerto for alto – saxophone and strings. In this thesis I will explore the life and career of Pavle Dešpalj and analyze the concerto. The last part of the thesis is dedicated to an arrangement of the first movement for saxophone ensemble. By arranging the orchestral part, the repertoire of this very specific ensemble (in this case, two soprano saxophones, two alto saxophones, two tenor saxophones and one baritone saxophone) is expanded, while a pedagogic use of such an arrangement is for students and pupils to get to know the Concerto as players in the orchestra and not just as soloists which deepens their understanding of the piece. Also, it is a viable alternative of performing the Concerto especially since the opportunities of playing with a chamber orchestra are rare and hard to come by
Vox populi
Undergraduate thesis Vox populi examines the global ecological crisis as well as the lack of one’s motivation to try to initiate change in the world. The figure of a woman allegorically represents the planet Earth, tired, insecure and desperate for help. She holds a black flag in her hand that symbolizes sadness for her own deterioration. This is also a call to action against the current state of the world. The author takes her primary inspiration from the works of Eugène Delacroix and Ljubo Babić. Theory-wise, she refers to Félix Guattari's ecosophy and Michel Foucault's theory of power. This work primarily seeks to address the urgency of the ecological crisis and to make people aware that they can use their voice to contribute to the creation of a better society and a better future
Komorebi
Ovaj završni rad se bavi projektom pod nazivom Komorebi, a to je video instalacija inspirirana istoimenom prirodnom pojavom prodiranja sunčeve svjetlosti kroz krošnju drveća. Također objašnjava proces osmišljanja i kreiranja projekta te njegovo značenje i finalnu realizaciju. This bachelor thesis examines the project titled Komorebi, a video installation inspired by the natural phenomenon of the same name. It delves into the thought process behind it as well as its meaning and final realization
Moments
Moments is an art installation consisting of 4000 color photographs, each measuring 3 x 3 cm, printed on 3mm thick forex and displayed in a disordered pile on a table. Each photograph captures fragments of everyday life from the artist and twenty other individuals, creating a visual mass that invites the viewer to interact and reflect. In this work, the viewer is confronted with a large number of photographs and faces the impossibility of perceiving the entire piece in its totality. This massive quantity of images creates a sense of being overwhelmed and powerless, evoking Kant's idea of the sublime—an experience that surpasses the limits of human perception and understanding. The photographs are arranged in a chaotic heap, creating space for infinite possibilities of viewing and interpretation. Moments also explores the concept of accumulation, where the piling up of thousands of photographs depicting everyday moments creates a sense of abundance. This accumulation critiques consumer culture and information overload, highlighting the fragmented nature of daily life, which becomes impossible to fully grasp. Appropriation is another key element of the work. The artist takes everyday moments from her life and the lives of others and presents them as an artistic endeavor. This process of collecting and reactivating fragmented moments allows the viewer to re-examine their own experiences and relationship to transient moments, encouraging reflection on what is usually overlooked. The work opens up new possibilities for understanding and interpreting everyday experiences, emphasizing the sublime in the mundane and problematizing the ways in which we perceive and experience the world around us
Gothic windows on residential architecture in Split
The thesis paper deals with the topic of Gothic windows in the historical centre of the city of Split. A brief historical overview of the city and its medieval development is also given. Even though some windows have been published and processed within the research of certain buildings, a large number of them have not been documented anywhere. A catalogue of them does not exist, nor has their typology been researched at the city level. In this paper, almost all Gothic windows in the residential architecture of the city of Split are documented. They have been catalogued, which includes photo documentation, indicating location and cadastral parcel of the building, as well as the position of the windows on the building, recording the condition of the windows, providing a bibliography and a detailed description of the windows. Using the method of comparative analysis, the types of windows and typological characteristics of Gothic windows in Split and their elements, their similarities, and differences were determined. The paper also includes a Glossary containing numerous names and definitions of architectural and decorative elements found on these windows
