In the backyard of the Archaeological Museum in Split, there is a significant amount of archaeological material, placed in this space for temporary or permanent storage, awaiting conservation-restoration interventions, or simply due to the need for safer conditions than could be provided at the original sites. In certain cases, the modern life of Salona caused the destruction of some sites, or accidental discoveries of artifacts during agricultural works, leading researchers, museum directors, or museum curators to acquire the finds and store them in the museum. Among this material, special attention from conservators-restorers was drawn to thirteen pallets with mosaic fragments that required urgent intervention due to their extremely poor condition – they were covered with moss, pine needles, and resin; some fragments were breaking apart, and their tessellatum was detaching from the substrate. This substantial amount of material posed a challenge in every respect, starting with the lack of original historical documentation regarding their origin and the circumstances of their transport to the museum, all the way to planning future restoration work on each individual fragment, finding appropriate storage methods, and potential presentation. Although an urgent, preliminary intervention on these mosaics began several years ago, when the majority of the material was documented and cataloged, the questions of conservation and presentation remained unresolved, and the deterioration, i.e., the fragmentation of the mosaic pieces, became more evident each week. Due to extremely unfavorable storage conditions in the open-air courtyard, the mosaics were transferred to an off-site storage facility (depot) of the Archaeological Museum in Solin, to facilitate preparation for conservation-restoration works. With the move to the depot, their detailed conservation-restoration treatment began, including cleaning, joining fragments, and creating temporary supports. These measures enabled their proper preservation and significantly slowed down their deterioration, creating the conditions necessary for their future research and presentation, especially in light of the possibility of discovering new fragments or data about their origin

    Labor of Sisyphus

This thesis is based on a video installation projected on a cardboard. The author describes her eight-hour shift in the student canteen in Split through the work entitled Labor of Sisyphus work. The video shows simultaneous clips of the tasks she performed over several months. The video alludes to consumerism by emphasizing that the same processes are constantly repeated at the restaurant. The projection is cast onto the wall. There, the cardboards that the author previously modified into unequal rectangular surfaces are placed, creating cuts on the video when it is played. Videos projected on unequal rectangular shapes and cardboard sheets along with the sound create messy overlaps - chaos that exhausts the senses and seems intrusive as an artificial transformation of everyday monotony

The diploma thesis Confessional deals with the analysis and contextualization of the art installation titled Confessional. It is also partly based on the concept of readymade. The installation resembles a bus stop made of plumbing pipes. Inside it, there is a chessboard with two chess pieces of kings, carved out of soap. The process of confession shapes people’s understanding of themselves, their relationships with others, and their place in the world. The work explores the symbolism of the elements used in the installation. The bus stop becomes a place of introspection and waiting, the chessboard represents a game of power and identity. As a material, soap emphasizes transience, fragility, and purity. The theoretical part of the work examines the relativity and subjectivity of sin through the works of many artists who address the theme of sin, particularly those who operate within the framework of so-called Confessional Art. The work is also grounded in literary and philosophical sources. The work reflects the author's view that through art, we can explore our own experiences

This paper presents the most significant moments in the city's development and the continuous presence of cultural and architectural growth, ultimately leading to the urban masterpiece known as "Split 3." The twentieth century brought major changes, which were notably rapid compared to previous centuries, and Split followed this accelerated development. The period of post-World War II reconstruction, marked by efforts to rebuild and modernize the city, are also described. Emphasis is placed on competitions for urban planning solutions, contests for residential streets and tourism projects, as well as their ralisation

Rezultati i uspješnost radova imaju značajnu vrijednost u planiranju i izvedbi buduće višegodišnje sanacije amfiteatra. This work includes the restoration work carried out on the northwest tower of the amphitheater in Pula in the period from 2007 to 2011. Before the actual conservation-restoration procedure, a thorough research phase was carried out. This involved a series of tests, including chemical analysis of soluble salts, petrographic examination of a limestone sample, examination of stone surface deposits, biological fouling and static tests. After the aforementioned tests, a conservation-restoration study was prepared, which served as a basis for creating a work plan. The conservation-restoration process itself included a number of steps, including mechanical removal of impurities, steam cleaning, sandblasting, laser cleaning and reconstruction. The results and success of the works have a significant value in the planning and implementation of the future multi-year restoration of the amphitheater

    No full text
Ova Sonata jedno je od najznačajnijih djela za klarinet i jedan od primjera skladateljske filozofije u kojoj glazba ima praktičnu i društvenu ulogu – „Gebrauchsmusik“.This thesis presents a biographical and analytical approach to show how the life and artistic influences of Paul Hindemith, one of the most significant composers of the 20th century, shaped his style as well as the formal and expressive characteristics of his works. The first part of the thesis covers the composer’s biography, extensive oeuvre, and compositional style, while the second part offers a detailed analysis of Sonata for clarinet with a focus on rhythm, structure, and performance demands. This Sonata is one of the most important works for clarinet and exemplifies the compositional philosophy in which music serves a practical and social function – known as "Gebrauchsmusik"
