Preliminary Study of Elemental and Radionuclides Composition in Sediment Samples from Dobczyce Water Reseivoir
Sediments play fundamental role in toxic compounds distribution in aquatic systems and in the evaluation of current state and course of changes taking place in environment. On the other hand physical, chemical, biochemical and geochemical processes that influence toxic compounds and elements fate in sediments are numerous and complex (for example: adsorption – desorption, oxidation – reduction, ion-exchange, biological activity). River and lake sediments constitute also very difficult analytical samples. Due to the above mentioned general statements only long term and as complex as possible research can lead to satisfactory answers to the question about drinking water quality for the city of Cracow. Therefore in this paper, introductory results concerning determination of concentration of chosen elements such as Al, P, K, Ca, Sc, Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, NI, Cu, Zn and radionuclids natural ( 40K ) and artificial (137Cs) in the depth profile of sediment samples from the Dobczyce Reservoir are presented. For the best quality of experimental work several analytical techniques, were applied namely: Proton Induced X-ray Emission (PIXE), Rutherford Back-Scattering (RBS), Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS), gamma spectrometry, and x-ray diffraction
Monte Carlo Simulations of the Spectrometric n-Gamma Well Logging. Comparison of Simulations and Measurements for the SO-5-90 Logging Tool
The results of the Monte Carlo simulations (MCNP code) of the spectrometric neutron-gamma well logging (sNGL) are presented. The sNGL can be very useful for the precise lithology determination, what is especially important for oil and gas prospecting in shally–sand formations. Possibility of determination of the Si, Ca and Fe content in rocks by means of the analysis of gamma ray spectra induced by the captured neutrons is well known for 40 years at least [Larionov, 1969]. Preliminary sNGL experiments performed at the Polish Calibration Station in Zielona Góra, using a simple borehole spectrometer equipped with the isotopic Am-Be neutron source and the BGO detector, fully confirmed this possibility. MCNP simulations of the sNGL experiments have been done for the SO-5-90 neutron-gamma spectrometer and for the lithology models (standards) of the Calibration Station. The concentrations of H, Si, Ca and Fe in these models have been determined from the real and simulated experiments using the simulated (“MCNP”) and measured (“meas”) spectra of gamma-rays from neutron interactions with the rock nuclei. The H, Si and Ca concentrations obtained from the simulated experiment are well correlated with their reference values, known from the chemical (“chem”) analyses - regarded as true values. Squares of the correlation coefficients (R2) amount to 0.992, 0.988 and 0.984, respectively. For Fe, a lower R2 has occurred for the linear dependence FeMCNP(Fechem) than for Femeas(Fechem) amounting to 0.834 and 0.923 respectively. Although the established correlations between results of the real and simulated sNGL experiments show the high values of correlation coefficients, the noticeable improvement of these correlations is expected for the fully verified chemical composition of the Zielona Góra standards and for improved parameters of the n-gamma spectrometer. The usefulness of the MCNP code for modeling the spectrometric neutron-gamma logging tool responses is confirmed. The possibility of the fast and accurate computer simulations opens a new field for development of the spectrometric n-gamma logging. Especially the influence of such disturbing factors as borehole conditions, borehole and formation salinities or presence of the additional rock elements (like B, S, K, Gd ) must be precisely known when the quantitative determination of Si, Ca and Fe is required
Nowe źródło jonów cyklotronu AIC-144
A new ion source for the AIC-144 isochronous cyclotron is presented. The source is of the PIG-type for production protons, deuterons and helions. It is most convinient as an “old” source f.ex. filament of the cathod is exchaanged only by pulling of a cathod’s holder.
The source possess some new mechanisms for improving of exploitation
Development of Kraków External Microbeam - Single Ion Hit Facility
The main purpose of building the microbeam setup for the external (i.e out-of-vacuum) measurements is single cell with single ions irradiation. The single-ion hit facility is based on the existing Kraków microbeam setup characterized by the spatial resolutions of about 3 μm. Present work introduces the setup and the measurement chamber that was developed, constructed and assembled in IFJ PAN. The passage of single ions from vacuum to atmosphere (where the cell dish is located) is registered using the channeltron detector installed inside the chamber. Channeltron registers secondary electrons emitted from CsI layer covering the Si3N4 exit window. The system of very precise diaphragms reduces the beam intensity down to a fluence of about 103 protons/sec. The beam blanking, correlated with single proton passage is provided by the fast, electrostatic deflecting system. The precise 3D table, installed outside the chamber, allows positioning the cell dish at a 200 μm distance from the exit window and change the targeted cell with a sub-micrometer precision within the dish. The paper shows results of the preliminary investigations aimed towards optimization of the most important issues: resolution of external microbeam, proton registration efficiency, efficiency of deflecting system and accuracy of single-proton-hit system
Cyclotron Production, Separation and Quality Control of 73As
The isotope 73As has been produced on the AIC-144 cyclotron via the natGe(p,xn)73As
nuclear reaction. The high purity germanium target of natural isotopic abundance was
bombarded by the internal proton beam. The target was dissolved in aqua regia, and the As isotopes were separated on the Dowex-1 ion-exchange resin. The contaminant 74As was let to decay. Traces of stable germanium in the final product were determined spectrophotometrically and by the internal tracer method. The 69Ge tracer was produced on the same cyclotron in the Zn(α,xn)69Ge reactions. The isotope 69Ge as well as its contaminants 66Ga and 67Ga, produced in Zn(α,pxn)66,67Ga reactions, were separated from Zn by solvent extraction from 7M HCl. The resultant carrier-free 73As was of high radionuclide purity and did not contain detectable traces of the target material

dziedzinach nauki, a w szczególności w biologii i medycynie. Zastosowanie tych
metod umożliwia prowadzenie badań w mikro obszarach tkanek, a nawet w
Ciągła potrzeba prowadzenia prac badawczych z zakresu diagnostyki medycznej
leczenia.
badań w mikro a nawet nano obszarach.
Pierwiastki śladowe odgrywające ważną rolę w organizmie człowieka są częstym
obiektem badań. Istotnym jest poznanie składu chemicznego oraz stężeń
pierwiastków śladowych występujących w poszczególnych narządach, tkankach, i
Badany materiał to: kamienie nerkowe, tkanki nerek i prostaty. Zaprezentowane
wyniki pomiarowe dotyczą stosowania różnorodnych fizycznych metod
analitycznych, do których można zaliczyć: PIXE (Proton Induced X-ray Emission),
AAS (Atomic Absorptopn Spectroscopy), R(E)BS (Rutherford (Elastic)
BackScattering), XRF (X-Ray Fluorescence), TRXRF (Total Reflection X-Ray
Fluorescence), SRIXE (Synchrotron Radiation Induced X-ray Emission), FTIR
(Fourier Transform InfraRed), oraz XANES (X-ray Absorption Near Edge
Structure).
Możliwość jednoczesnego pomiaru badanych związków i
zachowania struktury tkanek stanowi główną zaletę wielu metod fizycznych i daje
