Physicochemical Characterization of Phase Change Materials for Industrial Waste Heat Recovery Applications
The recovery and storage of process heat in industrial applications are some of the key
factors to improve the sustainability and reliability of high temperature applications. In this sense,
one of the main drawbacks is focused on the selection of proper thermal energy storage (TES) materials.
This paper performs a full characterization of four phase change storage materials (PCM),
KOH, LiOH, NaNO3 and KNO3, which are proposed for storage applications between 270 and 500
°C, according to the results obtained through differential scanning calorimeter and thermogravimetric
analysis. One of the main innovations includes the corrosive evaluation of these materials in
a promising alumina forming alloy (OC4), close to their corresponding phase change temperature
during 500 h. The physicochemical properties obtained confirm the optimal use of NaNO3 and
KNO3 and recommend the use, with caution, of KOH, due to its higher corrosive potential. FeCr2O4,
NiCr2O4 and FeAl2O4 were the main protective spinels formed in the alloy surface, however, the
cross-section study in the alloy immersed in KOH, revealed a non-uniform behavior, presenting
some cracks and spallation in the surface. On the other hand, the proposal of LiOH was disregarded
since it presents a narrow operation temperature range between melting and solidification point
Using corpora in search of optimal collocations for translation dictionaries
The purpose of this article is to verify corpus findings for first fifty confirmations of Russian lexemes прожить and пережить (seen as nonmetaphorical equivalents of the Polish entry unit przeżyć) and identification of collocations that would be useful in lexicographical and didactic aspects. The article presents didactic and lexicographical research context and shows previously identified language translations pairs with definitions of original entries and collocational chains, both in terms of collocational schemes and chains of typical collocants. As well as this, the author quotes corpus confirma-tions for first fifty findings in the basic and press corpora respectively within the National Russian Corpus. In addition, the article includes potential complementary Russian equivalents for the Polish entry unit przeżyć
Individual Determinants as the Causes of Failure in Learning to Swim with the Example of 10-Year-Old Children
The purpose of the present study was to identify which, and to what extent, selected individual determinants of 10-year-old children may limit the final achievement in learning to swim. In view of the above, the research hypothesis was formulated that some children, despite regular attendance at swimming classes, do not achieve the learning outcomes set in the curriculum. The reason for this may be unfavorable (compared to their peers) morphological and functional characteristics, coordination motor abilities, and problems with fear of water. Methods: The study was conducted on a group of 271 students from the third grade of elementary schools who could not swim when they entered the physical education classes at the swimming pool and then participated in at least 25 swimming lessons during the school year. After these classes, the students performed swimming tests, and their somatic and functional characteristics and coordination motor abilities were measured. Results: In 46.1% of the participants, the final achievement level was lower than assumed in the school curriculum. The biggest problem for teachers and students in the initial teaching and learning to swim was the high fear of water, especially among girls. Furthermore, children characterized by lower body height and body weight, a lower sum of three skinfolds, and lower BMI had problems with progress in swimming. Despite the differences, these values did not correlate significantly with the final achievement level in swimming, except for body height in boys. Slower progress in swimming was also associated with lower vital capacity, whereas no relationship was found between final achievement level in swimming and trunk flexibility or foot mobility. However, significant correlations occurred for coordination motor abilities, as in almost all tests the participants characterized by the achievement level below the objectives set out in the curriculum performed significantly worse than children in the group with the achievement level meeting the objectives. Conclusions: In many cases, children who begin learning to swim from scratch make significant progress, but for many of them, the achievement levels are lower than the requirements set out in the school curriculum. The biggest problem for teachers and students in the initial teaching and learning to swim was the high fear of water, especially among girls
The CLIL mindset : investigating open-mindedness of CLIL teachers
W celu zebrania danych nauczyciele CLIL pracujący
w szkole podstawowej, gimnazjum oraz w szkole średniej zostali poproszeni o wypełnienie
kwestionariusza (VIA-IS). Kwestionariusz składał się ze 120 stwierdzeń identyfikujących
24 cechy charakteru. Odpowiedzi nauczycieli mierzono w pięciostopniowej skali Likerta,
miejscem pracy. The aim of the article is to discuss the research results of one of the most important
character virtue, namely open-mindedness. The research was conducted among CLIL teachers
for whom this virtue seems to be indispensable, bearing in mind various obstacles, which they
have to face in CLIL education e.g. lack of teaching materials. In order to collect the data, the
VIA Inventory of Strengths (VIA-IS) was disseminated among Primary, Junior High School and
Secondary School teachers. The VIA Inventory of Strengths (VIA-IS) is a 120-item measure of
character strengths, with each of 24 character strengths assessed by 10 items. In the following
article, only the data concerning open-mindedness will be discussed

the university level
Współczesna literatura piękna wobec cierpienia i zła. Przypadek twórczości Emmanuela Carrère’a
Suffering and evil are among the key issues addressed in various religious traditions. At the same time, it is undoubtedly one of the most important motifs in artistic
culture, including literary fiction. The matter is also present in the sociological tradition:
theodicy has been explored by Max Weber, Talcott Parsons or Peter L. Berger; what is
more, many sociologists have treated literature as an inspiration to conduct their inquir ies. The works of Emmanuel Carrère, a French writer and screenwriter, are permeated
with theodicean themes related to the experience of corporality (suffering of the body or
death). Yet, Carrère himself engages in several simultaneous discourses in this respect:
as a Catholic, a yoga practitioner and – finally – as an atheist. Carrère’s literary oeuvre,
analyzed from the sociological standpoint, provokes a discussion on the process of secularization and medicalization of suffering and evil, whilst being a singular laboratory of
how to write about religious experiences in the world that is subjected to growing secularization.Alexander J.C. (2001). Towards a Sociology of Evil. W: M.P. Lara (red.). Rethinking Evil:

Brachypodium: 20 years as a grass biology model system; the way forward?
It has been 20 years since Brachypodium distachyon was suggested as a model
grass species, but ongoing research now encompasses the entire genus. Extensive
Brachypodium genome sequencing programmes have provided resources to
explore the determinants and drivers of population diversity. This has been accompanied
by cytomolecular studies to make Brachypodium a platform to investigate
speciation, polyploidisation, perenniality, and various aspects of chromosome
and interphase nucleus organisation. The value of Brachypodium as a functional
genomic platform has been underscored by the identification of key genes for
development, biotic and abiotic stress, and cell wall structure and function. While
Brachypodium is relevant to the biofuel industry, its impact goes far beyond that
as an intriguing model to study climate change and combinatorial stress
Surgery Training System Supported by Organic Materials
The aim of the study was the qualitative assessment of new materials based on a polycarbonate
matrix in terms of its use in 3D printing and its processing and geometric modification
(cutting). Filaments made of the new material doped with talc in five different proportions were
visually inspected with a microscope. The calibration and test models were made using the FFF
(fused filament fabrication) technique. In addition, its susceptibility to the drill and the behavior
of the shavings were assessed and the temperature changing during drilling was measured. The
implant was inserted to measure its resonance stability in each of the holes made and translated into
the value of the implant stability quotient (ISQ) ranging from 1 to 100. The results were compared
to those obtained for the training model of the skull bone. The amount of filler has been shown to
affect the composite. Moreover, due to the properties of talc, a compatibilizer (polyol) was used.
Differences were observed between the model made of the commercial material, the model made of
the dried, tested material, and the model made of the undried material. It was confirmed that the
presence of water in the material during its processing is important
Wpływ parametrów pracy kolimatora wielolistkowego MLC na weryfikację dynamicznych planów leczenia w radioterapii
The doctoral dissertation presents the impact of the parameters of the MLC Agility medical
accelerator Elekta Versa HD on the verification of dynamic treatment plans in radiotherapy.
This effect was checked clinically by performing validation measurements for 30 days,
at two times of the day (morning and evening), and mechanically by performing MLC tests.
The treatment plans were made in the VMAT technique using the MONACO treatment
planning system for three locations: chest, head/ncck and pelvis. MLC quality control tests
were performed for the IMRT SMLC and 1MR.T DMLC techniques, statically for 0° gantry
angle and dynamically with full gantry rotation on the linear accelerator. Measurements of the
effect of MLC offsets on the obtained dose values in selected MLC tests and treatment plans
for all areas were also performed.
Information on the impact of the time of day on the result of the verification of VMAT
dynamic treatment plan has been obtained. As the research has shown, the differences resulting
from the work of the MLC may have a significant impact on the dose absorbed in a patient
during the treatment with the use of a linear accelerator. Thereafter, the evidence for the effects
of different collimator leaf offset values on the MLC tests and on the verification results
was confirmed. By using the obtained measurements, it was proposed to introduce periodic
quality control tests of the MLC
Autointerpretacja osoby i problem „mocnego wartościowania” w filozofii Charlesa Taylora
Poznawanie własnego "ja" odbywa się w kontekście odkrywania i uświadamiania sobie wartości wpisanych w tradycję kulturową, język i znaczenia z nim związane. Dzięki rozpoznaniu tych wartości możemy także określić przyczyny nieporozumień i wyartykułować różnice indywidualnych postaw i poglądów w stosunku do narracji dominujących w przekazie kulturowym. Abbey, R. (2000). Charles Taylor. London & New York: Routledge.
