Lifestyle Factors Associated with Children’s and Adolescents’ Adherence to the Mediterranean Diet Living in Mediterranean Countries: The DELICIOUS Project
Background/Objectives. Traditional dietary patterns are being abandoned in Mediterranean countries, especially among younger generations. This study aimed to investigate the potential lifestyle determinants that can increase adherence to the Mediterranean diet in children and adolescents. Methods. This study is a cross-sectional analysis of data from five Mediterranean countries (Italy, Spain, Portugal, Egypt, and Lebanon) within the context of the EU-funded project DELICIOUS (UnDErstanding consumer food choices & promotion of healthy and sustainable Mediterranean Diet and LIfestyle in Children and adolescents through behavIOUral change actionS). This study comprised information on 2011 children and adolescents aged 6–17 years old collected during 2023. The main background characteristics of both children and parents, including age, sex, education, and family situation, were collected. Children’s eating (i.e., breakfast, place of eating, etc.) and lifestyle habits (i.e., physical activity level, sleep, and screen time) were also investigated. The level of adherence to the Mediterranean diet was assessed using the KIDMED index. Logistic regression analyses were performed to test for likelihood of higher adherence to the Mediterranean diet. Results. Major determinants of higher adherence to the Mediterranean diet were younger age, higher physical activity level, adequate sleep duration, and, among dietary habits, having breakfast and eating with family members and at school. Parents’ younger age and higher education were also determinants of higher adherence. Multivariate adjusted analyses showed that an overall healthier lifestyle and parents’ education were the factors independently associated with higher adherence to the Mediterranean diet. Conclusions. Higher adherence to the Mediterranean diet in children and adolescents living in the Mediterranean area is part of an overall healthy lifestyle possibly depending on parents’ cultural background

The Strategic Role of Public Food Procurement in the Just Food Transition
Public Food Procurement emerges as a strategic tool for sustainable
governance, capable of guiding an equitable and systemic food transition. This
analysis takes a multilevel approach to the topic, focusing on minimum environmental
criteria, spaces for innovation beyond mandatory regulations, and challenges related
to food upcycling, novel foods, and the food sharing economy. It also highlights the
importance of sharing best practices among public administrations. Particular attention
is given to the indirect effects of public action through nudging and moral suasion
to highlight the transformative potential of public food procurement in promoting sustainablebehaviors and a new food ethic
Nurse-led transitional care programmes in peripheral arterial disease: a scoping review of patient outcomes
Background:Peripheral arterial disease (PAD) affects between 3% and 10% of the global population. Transitional care programmes (TCPs) aim to ensure continuity between hospital-based acute care and primary healthcare. Nurses play a pivotal role in supporting this transition. TCPs may reduce hospital readmissions, emergency department (ED) attendances and improve patients’ quality of life (QoL). This scoping review examines whether nurse-led TCP improves the management of patients undergoing lower limb vascular surgery, including the effectiveness of remote (telehealth) delivery.
Methods:This review followed the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) methodology. Eligible studies included adults hospitalised with peripheral vascular disease who had undergone major surgery. A comprehensive search of PubMed, CINAHL, Web of Science, Scopus, JBI Evidence Synthesis and grey literature via Google Scholar was conducted for studies published between 1 January 2000 and 30 June 2024.
Results:Of 888 papers screened, 6 met the inclusion criteria. Nurse-led TCPs were associated with reduced hospital readmissions and improved patient reported QoL. No significant differences were observed in unplanned surgery, major amputation, or mortality.
Conclusion:TCPs are associated with improved patient QoL outcomes and reduces hospital readmissions when incorporating education, telenursing, and a multiprofessional approach - led by a transition nurse
Impact of Diagnostic Confidence, Perceived Difficulty, and Clinical Experience in Facial Melanoma Detection: Results from a European Multicentric Teledermoscopic Study
Clinical, Dermoscopic and Reflectance Confocal Microscopy Characteristics Associated With the Presence of Negative Pigment Network Among Spitzoid Neoplasms
Negative pigment network (NPN) is a dermoscopic structure frequently associated with melanoma. Though commonly observed in Spitz naevi (SN) and Spitzoid melanoma (SM), its reflectance confocal microscopy (RCM) correlates have been primarily studied in non-Spitzoid melanocytic neoplasms. This study aimed to identify clinical, dermoscopic, and RCM features associated with dermoscopic NPN in Spitzoid neoplasms and explore its histopathological correlates. We retrospectively analysed clinical, dermoscopic, and RCM images from 128 histopathologically confirmed SN and SM cases diagnosed between 2014 and 2020. Lesions were grouped by presence or absence of dermoscopic NPN, and comparisons were made across clinical, dermoscopic, and RCM features. A subset of 20 cases underwent histopathologic correlation. Of the 128 cases, 96 (74%) were SN and 32 (26%) SM. NPN was present in 58 lesions (45%)—40 SN (42%) and 18 SM (56%). NPN was associated with lesion diameter ≥ 5 mm, presence of shiny white structures, dotted vessels, and inversely associated with diffuse blue-white veil. SMs showed higher frequencies of asymmetry, multicomponent patterns, and extensive NPN. RCM features previously linked to NPN—round or linear surface disruptions, bright suprabasal areas, and broadened interpapillary spaces—were seen in 87% of cases but did not correlate with diagnosis or dermoscopic NPN. Corresponding histologic features included keratin-filled dells, hypergranulosis, and broadened rete ridges or infundibula. RCM correlates of dermoscopic NPN are frequently observed in Spitzoid neoplasms, independent of visible dermoscopic NPN, suggesting perceptibility may depend on contrast within dermoscopic patterns
