    Establishing the ELIXIR Microbiome Community

    No full text
International audienceMicrobiome research has grown substantially over the past decade in terms of the range of biomes sampled, identified taxa, and the volume of data derived from the samples. In particular, experimental approaches such as metagenomics, metabarcoding, metatranscriptomics and metaproteomics have provided profound insights into the vast, hitherto unknown, microbial biodiversity. The ELIXIR Marine Metagenomics Community, initiated amongst researchers focusing on marine microbiomes, has concentrated on promoting standards around microbiome-derived sequence analysis, as well as understanding the gaps in methods and reference databases, and solutions to computational overheads of performing such analyses. Nevertheless, the methods used and the challenges faced are not confined to marine studies, but are broadly applicable to all other biomes. Thus, expanding this Community to a more inclusive ELIXIR Microbiome Community will enable it to encompass a broad range of biomes and link expertise across ‘omics technologies. Furthermore, engaging with a large number of researchers will improve the efficiency and sustainability of bioinformatics infrastructure and resources for microbiome research (standards, data, tools, workflows, training), which will enable a deeper understanding of the function and taxonomic composition of the different microbial communities

    No full text

Truncated sequential guaranteed estimation for the Cox-Ingersoll-Ross models

    No full text
The drift sequential parameter estimation problems for the Cox-Ingersoll-Ross (CIR) processes under the limited duration of observation are studied. Truncated sequential estimation methods for both scalar and two-dimensional parameter cases are proposed. In the non-asymptotic setting, for the proposed truncated estimators, the properties of guaranteed mean-square estimation accuracy are established. In the asymptotic formulation, when the observation time tends to infinity, it is shown that the proposed sequential procedures are asymptotically optimal among all possible sequential and non-sequential estimates with an average estimation time less than the fixed observation duration. It also turned out that asymptotically, without degrading the estimation quality, they significantly reduce the observation duration compared to classical non-sequential maximum likelihood estimations based on a fixed observation duration

Network Security Scheme for Discrete-Time T-S Fuzzy Nonlinear Active Suspension Systems Based on Multi-Switching Control Mechanism

    No full text
International audienceThis paper investigates the cybersecurity problem of active suspension systems (ASSs) subject to random denial-ofservice (DoS) attacks. Consider the nonlinearity and uncertainty of ASSs, the Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy theory is applied to address these issues. In order to model various potential operating behaviors of the system, a high-order multi-switchingmode (HOMSM) T-S fuzzy control scheme is constructed, in which a series of free-weighted matrix sets are developed for different switching modes, such that the conservatism of controller design is reduced to a certain extent. By designing the HOMSM control method, a certain level of resistance to randomly activated DoS attacks can be achieved. With the help of homogeneous polynomial technology, several time-varying balance matrices (TVBMs) are constructed for extracting the properties of different switching modes. Then, the exponential stability conditions of ASSs under DoS attacks can be derived, and the H∞ performance criterion is guaranteed. Finally, the theoretical results are validated by the hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) experiments

    No full text
International audienceRecent technological advancements and intense competitive pressures have spurred the rapid integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into the financial sector. This trend is further amplified with the advent of generative AI (GAI), representing a significant advancement in AI technology with its wide-ranging applications in finance. This scoping review chapter delves into the evolution of GAI and its burgeoning role in financial analysis, management, and strategy. While GAI offers significant opportunities for business and financial entities, it also entails inherent risks that necessitate prudent consideration. These risks encompass embedded biases, outcome opacity, privacy concerns, performance robustness, unique cybersecurity threats, and the potential to create novel sources and transmission channels of systemic risks, which could impact financial sector stability. The chapter explores regulatory, ethical, and user-centric perspectives in AI-driven finance alongside technological innovations and applications. Methodologically, this review employs a structured approach to identify relevant studies, chart data, and collate, summarize, and report results. The findings highlight the critical balance between leveraging GAI for its benefits and mitigating its risks to ensure responsible use in the financial realm by adhering to ethical principles such as public participation, regulatory compliance, and a user-centric approach. This chapter offers valuable insights for policymakers, financial professionals, AI developers, and academics, guiding them in understanding the complexities of GAI in finance and informing strategies for responsible implementation

    No full text

    No full text
International audienceCerebral palsy (CP) is a neurological condition that can lead to motor impairments, orthopedic deformities, and limitations in mobility. Multi-level orthopedic surgery is often proposed to address these issues. However, postoperative rehabilitation is typically lengthy, and its effectiveness may be limited by resource constraints and/or declining patient motivation over time. ARRoW is an active mixed-reality video game designed to offer an immersive and interactive approach to rehabilitation, aiming to enhance patient engagement and improve locomotor outcomes following surgery.ARRoW implements a four-week therapeutic protocol, consisting of three training sessions per week. Each session follows an individualized training program based on a target walking speed, with predefined and progressively increasing intensity, volume, and duration. The motor task involves a series of walking sprints, inspired by the protocol of Zwinkel et al. [1], which focuses on increasing walking speed. Mixed reality, delivered via a head- mounted display, was selected to allow free walking within a safe, controlled environment while remainingcompatible with assistive walking devices. To compute spatiotemporal gait parameters from head motion data, a dedicated algorithm named HoloStep was developed, validated, and integrated into the ARRoW game [2]. A preliminary comparative evaluation identified the most effective feedback modality to optimize performance and motivation [3]. Additionally, gamification principles were embedded in the design to further enhance patient engagement and the effectiveness ofrehabilitation. A randomized controlled trial is currently underway. The control group undergoes treadmill-based gait training for up to 30 minutes per session, based on a protocol adapted from Grecco et al. [4].Validation tests conducted with children with CP demonstrated a HoloStep error rate below 5%, confirming the algorithm’s accuracy. The most effective feedback modality was identified as a dynamic visual cue moving at the target speed, allowing patients to adjust their gait without abrupt accelerations or decelerations. This feedback approach has been integrated and gamified within the ARRoW gameplay. Preliminary results from the ongoing clinical trial (n = 19) indicate a trend in favor of ARRoW for improving walking capacity (6-minute walk test: ARRoW group +0.28 m/s vs. Treadmill group +0.24 m/s) and anaerobic performance (Muscle Power Sprint Test: ARRoW group +0.27 m/s vs. Treadmill group +0.15 m/s) compared to intensive treadmill rehabilitation. Patient satisfaction and motivation, assessed using the validated PACES questionnaire, show a strong preference for this innovative therapy (positive item score: ARRoW group 34.9 vs. Treadmill group 27.4).Currently in the maturation phase with support from SATT Paris-Saclay, the project aims to achieve technology transfer for nationwide dissemination in rehabilitation centers.
