    No full text
Diversity in the aviation industry enables airlines to increase customer engagement, corporate reputation, talent acquisition, innovation, and financial performance. It contributes to improving value creation through diversity of thoughts and experiences, as employees with different ages, genders, and cultures can provide different perspectives on how tasks should be carried out. Firms that intend to get the support of employees for a diverse environment should include them in these efforts. Although the diversity covers similar dimensions, its perception differs from industry to industry. Firms should shape their efforts for diversity by evaluating the perceptions of the employees on that construct. This study aims to analyze the perception of diversity in the aviation industry by examining the demographics of employees and their perceptions of diversity. We covered age, gender, and cultural diversity in the study. We explore whether the related diversity in airlines offers an efficient environment by considering their advantages and challenges. We used an online survey and reached 203 pilots. The results show that there is no relationship between gender and the perception of the employees on diversity. However, there is a significant relationship between age and diversity perception. As the age increases, the awareness of the advantages and challenges of diversity rises. The findings provide valuable insights for the airlines to draw a path to enhance age, gender, and cultural diversity to improve flight safety and customer engagement.

The aim of this study is to examine in depth the psychotherapy process involving traumatic grief-focused phenomenological dream work developed based on the phenomenological dream-self approach. While developing the stages of the dream work, qualitative research as a preliminary study was designed in which a detailed examination of the meaning given to the dream experience in Turkish society was carried out to take cultural contexts into account. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 16 adult participants, who were not mental health professionals, and the data were analyzed using reflexive thematic analysis. There was an overarching pattern in the participants' narratives that waking and dreaming experiences are often directly related and mutually influencing "life experiences." In line with the themes developed in the preliminary study, the scopes and stages of the phenomenological dream work focused on traumatic grief were determined, and it was used as an intervention in psychotherapy with a client with intense grief experience following traumatic loss. Psychotherapy transcripts were analyzed by reflexive thematic analysis method, and the changing pattern in the context of waking and dream experiences was examined in depth. In addition to the experiences accompanying the whole psychotherapy process, which led to a vicious cycle within and between each other, a striking feature of the subjective traumatic grief experience was that it was a complex intertwined process with a fluctuating course. On the other hand, during the psychotherapy process, a pattern was observed ranging from a predominant pattern of meaninglessness about life, reluctance, difficulty in accepting the loss, and loss-related re-experiencing, to an increase in internalization of the loss and life motivation, and a decrease in avoidance behaviors with the realization of individual needs. In conclusion, phenomenological dream work in psychotherapy, including waking and dream experiences both of which are experiences of the self, may provide a holistic approach to traumatic grief

[ArticleInPress]The present study is an attempt to apply Galperin spiral model to implement and analyze a peer coaching program. To do so, six teachers (three coaches and three protégés), who attended a 3-month peer coaching program in which protégés received help from their more experienced peers (coaches), completed narrative frames about the program and participated in individual semistructured interviews. After the transcription of the interviews, the thematic analysis was conducted on the gathered data. The results of the study revealed that although there are evidential obstacles to doing the program including inter alia, cultural schema, teacher financial well-being and discontinuity of it, the employed model could provide additional aid and critical look for implementing peer coaching programs in educational contexts. Teachers and teacher educators can benefit from the findings by applying the proposed model in peer coaching programs

[ArticleInPress]This study examined the responses of domestic violence perpetrators to group treatment by conducting observations with 12 men from two 10-week two-group interventions who had received a no-contact order. Thematic analysis was applied to the observation notes. The participants often indicated improved awareness and behavior change through expressing feelings of shame, learning alternative behaviors, and acquiring new techniques. Conversely, the normalization of vio-lence, social expectations, gendered stereotypes, and masculinity crises were identified as barriers. The findings indicate that learning and implementing new strategies for healthy and respectful intimate relationships can help men take responsibility for their abusive acts.TÜBİTA

    Get PDF
This study evaluates the synergy of coalition for hybrid renewable energy (RWB) system alternatives. In this context, the alternative sources of hybrid RWB system are examined to illustrate the impact-relation directions among them with multi SWARA based on q-ROFs and golden cut. Next, the performances of renewable alternatives are measured in terms of the synergy of coalition with game theory and Shapley value. It is concluded that solar energy is the most suitable RWB alternative for synergy to increase efficiency in investments. However, biomass does not have a significant influence on providing synergy in energy investments. Therefore, solar energy should be prioritized for hybrid energy investments. Especially with the effect of technological developments, the efficiency of solar energy investments increases significantly. Thus, solar energy investments have become quite suitable for increasing the synergy in hybrid energy projects. Furthermore, necessary research should be conducted to make biomass energy more efficient

Social media: Stress factors or coping strategies? A pilot study in a sample of Italian teachers

    Get PDF
Objectives: The present study aims to address the psychological motivations behind social media use, focusing on its under-explored regulatory function in the context of coping strategies and emotional regulation among teachers. This exploratory research explores the relationship between social media engagement and its impact on educators’ stress management and emotional regulation mechanisms. Methods: To investigate this relationship, the study utilized two key instruments: The coping inventory for stressful situations and the Italian version of the difficulties in emotion regulation scale. These tools were administered to a sample of 214 Italian teachers, predominantly female (90.7%), with ages ranging from 25 to 65 years (Mean±SD 47.19±9.02 years). The study employed correlation analysis to assess the associations between social media use in addition to various coping and emotional regulation strategies. Results: The correlation analysis revealed a nuanced relationship between the usage of certain social media platforms and a higher inclination toward a problem-oriented coping style, alongside a decreased sense of a lack of negative emotional control. Accordingly, while social media can serve as a tool for problem-oriented coping, it may also hinder the ability to disengage from negative emotional states. Discussion: The results of this study shed light on the potential of social media as a resource and a challenge in the emotional and professional lives of teachers. By identifying specific coping strategies that are positively and negatively associated with social media use, the research points toward possible interventions that could mitigate the adverse effects of social media. This could include developing targeted support mechanisms to enhance teachers’ ability to manage stress and regulate emotions effectively, thereby optimizing their use of social media in a way that supports their psychological well-being

    Get PDF
Background: The aim of this quantitative study conducted with 5008 individuals aged 15 and above in 12 provinces across Turkey was to determine the prevalence and significant variables of gambling behavior in our country and to examine the gambling behaviors, perceptions, thoughts, and attitudes of this population towards gambling. The goal is to generate concrete, original, culturally sensitive, feasible, and effective recommendations for preventive and risk-reducing policies. It is the first and only comprehensive investigation into gambling behavior in Turkey, offering guidance in this field. Methods: In this study, which was conducted with an epidemiological cross-sectional design, a stratified random sampling technique was employed, and data were collected using computer-assisted faceto-face interviews. Individuals to be surveyed in households were randomly selected using the Kish method. Results: Three hundred forty-one participants (6.81%) reported having gambled at least once (GALO) in their lifetime, while the remaining participants stated they had never gambled (NG). Among the GALO group, 100 individuals (29.33%) reported regular participation in gambling activities during the data collection period. The most commonly played types of gambling were sports betting (55.4%), national lottery (42.2%), numeric lottery (34.6%), and bingo (30.8%). The ages of first-time gambling ranged from 6 to 41. Tobacco, alcohol, and substance use were significantly more common in the GALO group compared to the NG group (P < .001). Conclusion: Understanding the prevalence of gambling behavior and underlying motivations is crucial for creating awareness and implementing effective preventive measures. We must determine its prevalence, examine societal attitudes, highlight its presence, and prioritize solution-oriented strategies

[Book Review]: "İki Dünya Arasında: İstanbul’da Dindar Üniversite Gençliği"

    Get PDF

The effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on the performance of Turkish banks: A comparative panel data analysis

    Get PDF
This study investigates the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the performance of conventional and participation banks in Turkey. Panel data with random effects was the main analysis methodology adopted by the study. The data of ten banks was analysed within the range of 2015–2021. The results of the combined analyses could not establish any impact of the pandemic on the profitability of both groups of banks. The same result is also observed when the analysis is conducted on both groups separately. In contrast, a negative impact on the operational efficiency of banks was observed when the analysis was conducted on the two sets of the banks combined. Interestingly, the results suggest that the pandemic had a negative impact on the operational efficiency of participation banks but not on conventional banks when the analysis was conducted on the two sets of the banks separately
