Assessing coherence and fidelity: Credibility of COVID-19 narratives
Non-fictional narratives have an open-ended character that projects roles and values to those who participate in them. Narrative participation, in turn, entails narrative assessment and identification processes, through which adherence to values and positions may fail or be achieved. In the analysis of interviews with university students across Turkey, we draw on Fisher's narrative paradigm to focus on how our participants carry out assessments of narrative credibility. To elucidate narrative coherence and fidelity, we take inspiration from an argumentative-rhetorical perspective, and focus specifically on the relationship among the criteria identified in the literature on narrative assessment. Our study of interviewee evaluations of COVID-19 narratives confirms the use of the coherence criteria, calls into question the fidelity criteria, and highlights the relevance of identification as a basic process for fidelity assessments. We conclude by discussing our limitations and directions for further research
MNEs engagement with environmental sustainability in an emerging economy: Do dynamic capabilities and entrepreneurial orientation matter?
In this study, we investigate the link between multinational enterprises’ (MNEs) dynamic capabilities (DC) and their environmental collaboration with suppliers mediated by entrepreneurial orientation (EO) and moderated by environmental complexity. Drawing on responses from 249 managers of MNEs in Türkiye, we find that DC improve environmental collaboration with suppliers. Moreover, we posit that through EO, MNEs achieves greater environmental collaboration with suppliers for effective environmental solutions, especially at a low level of environmental complexity. The results enrich the role of organizational capabilities in strengthening environmental collaboration with suppliers to achieve environmental sustainability, and provide suggestions for managers and policymakers to better understand capabilities for the purpose of attaining sustainability
Rethinking psycho-ontology in the context of Ilm an-Nafs (the study of self by Muslim scholars) and clinical applications
While modern psychotherapies are generally effective, they often face challenges, especially in addressing the more profound aspects of human experience. Ilm an-Nafs, as a discipline rooted in the Islamic intellectual tradition, encompasses various interpretations that offer a multidimensional perspective by integrating scientific, philosophical, and theological insights. This article focuses on my specific interpretation of Ilm an-Nafs, from which we have developed the 3K model (drive/power model), the 3N model (consciousness model), the 4T model (cognitive model), and the Nafs (self) model. In order to explore their potential advantages, these models will be compared with psychoanalytic concepts and cognitive behavioral therapy. The methodology includes a comparative analysis of these models, highlighting how the Ilm an-Nafs models provide a more holistic understanding of human psychology. Findings from six previous studies, comprising four single-case studies, one case series, and one randomized controlled trial group study, showed significant symptom reduction among patients. These patients found the Ilm an-Nafs models to be more explanatory and holistic than modern psychotherapies. They reported that these models helped them distinguish between psychopathology and spirituality and offered a sense of security by integrating religious and scientific perspectives. The Ilm an-Nafs models offer a richer psycho-ontological framework that not only aligns more closely with the values and beliefs of Muslim patients but also provides inspiring insights that can expand the definition of the human being in modern psychology. This approach opens new avenues for religiously sensitive therapeutic interventions and suggests promising new directions for integrating Ilm an-Nafs with contemporary psychology. Future research may further explore this integration, potentially leading to more holistic therapies that better serve diverse populations

Enhancing decentralized energy storage investments with artificial intelligence-driven decision models
Decentralized energy storage investments play a crucial role in enhancing energy efficiency and promoting renewable energy integration. However, the complexity of these projects and the limited resources of the companies make it necessary to determine strategic priorities. This paper tries to define effective investment strategies for the improvements of the decentralized energy storage projects. In the first stage, the selection of mass experts is made via information gain-based mass expert selection. Next, the assessments of the experts are balanced based on the opinion of the best expert by using q-learning algorithm. Moreover, determinants of decentralized energy storage investments are examined with molecular fuzzy (MF) cognitive maps. Finally, strategy alternatives for decentralized energy storage investments are ranked with MF multi-objective particle swarm optimization (MOPSO). The main contribution of this study is the identification of the most effective decentralized energy storage investment alternatives by establishing a novel model. The main novelty of the proposed model is that considering information gain-based mass expert selection technique allows for higher consistency and decision efficiency. Owing to this issue, the decision-making process is accelerated, and the applicability of the results increases. The findings indicate that customer expectations (weight: 0.2577) and financial issues (weight: 0.2513) are the most essential criteria in improving the performance of decentralized energy storage investments. Furthermore, hydrogen-based energy storage (average value: 0.1878) and distributed battery swapping stations (average value: 0.1877) are the most important decentralized energy storage investment alternatives
Ahmedü Bamba ve selefleri: Bamba’nın tasavvufî yazılarının fikrî izlerini sürmek
This study examines the intellectual formation of Aḥmadu Bamba Mbacke (d. 1927), founder of the al-Murīdiyya Sufi order in Senegal, whose teachings have significantly shaped West African Islamic thought and practice. While the socio-political influence of al-Murīdiyya has been widely acknowledged, the intellectual foundations of Bamba’s Sufi thought remain insufficiently explored. This research hypothesizes that Bamba’s thought was profoundly shaped by classical Sufi figures such as Abū Ḥāmid al-Ghazzālī (d. 505/1111), ʿAbdu-l-Wahhāb ash-Shaʿrānī (d. 973/1565), Aḥmad Zarrūq (d. 899/1493), Ibn ʿAtāʾ Allah as-Sakandarī (d. 709/1309), as well as Mauritanian scholars including Sīdī Mukhtār al-Kuntiyyu (d. 1226/1811) and Muḥammad ibn al-Mukhtār ad-Daymānī (d. 1166/1753). Notably, Bamba distanced himself from speculative and philosophical Sufism, instead emphasizing a practical, ethically grounded Sufism centered on spiritual discipline, moral reform, and communal service. Through textual analysis and historical contextualization, this study investigates how these intellectual and spiritual currents informed Bamba’s synthesis of Sufi pedagogy and reform, contributing to a localized yet universal model of Islamic spirituality.
Enhancing the organizational ecosystem through workplace mediation
Conflicts in workplaces are inevitable. Conflicts can interrupt productivity and create an uncomfortable working environment. In disputes arising of employment relationships, it is essential to resort to constructive and peaceful settlement methods. Mediation is a structured process in which a neutral mediator facilitates communication between the conflicting parties to better understand each other and find solutions that will improve the relationship. The root causes of workplace conflicts often stem from grievances such as miscommunication and unclear responsibilities. Implementing workplace mediation not only resolves immediate conflicts but also improves the organizational ecosystem. Mediation creates a positive environment by fostering a culture of open communication and cooperation. Mediation strengthens relationships and builds trust between employees and management. By addressing conflicts early and constructively, mediation prevents issues from escalating. Ultimately, workplace mediation is a transformative tool that enhances the organizational ecosystem by fostering a culture of constructive dispute resolution and improving organizational performance
Equal before Allah, unequal before the Prophet? Ongoing discourse on matn criticism and its influence on Muslim feminist thought
The question of whether Muslim scholars evaluated mutūn has garnered considerable interest that evolved into vigorous debates within Islamic studies. Muslim academics countered pioneering orientalists’ narrative by asserting that matn criticism has always been integral to text verification. Others maintained that it was mainly the domain of the uṣūliyyūn. Based on the varying stances, this article presents four viewpoints with regards to muḥaddithūn’s engagement in matn criticism. In the realm of Muslim feminist thought, such debates are often considered peripheral. They underscore a substantial lacuna in matn criticism, thus advocating for innovative approaches such as the tawhidic paradigm and the Qur’ānic-weltanschauung analysis. To provide a more nuanced analysis, the first part of this article proposes a new schema that distinguishes between isnād-based and text-based matncriticism. Utilising a qualitative research methodology, this paper contends that not all principles of naqd were employed by the muḥaddithūn, as some have been applied by other scholars, particularly the uṣūliyyūn. The second part explores the impact of classical methodologies on contemporary Muslim feminist thought. Findings of this paper prove that the principles introduced by Muslim Feminists are relatively subjective, rather than being conclusively objective, therefore rendering it insufficient to unequivocally reject established narrations. Instead, it suffices only to be used as tools for new readings. This article represents the inaugural scholarly effort to delineate contrasting perspectives on matn criticism, which offers a unique contribution, especially for non-Arabic readers.
Unveiling the veil of discrimination in Türkiye’s private education sector
This article addresses a thriving discriminatory hiring policy against professional veiled teachers within the Turkish private education sector. The research presents findings based on 24 in-depth questionnaire-response type analyses completed by professional veiled teachers who have applied to private schools, in addition to sev-eral informal interviews held with recruitment agents and human resources admin-istrators at well-known private schools in Türkiye. Part of the research includes a historical analysis on education in the creation of the Republic and thereafter. Taken together, these results overwhelmingly point to a deeply rooted ideological view that prevents some private schools from having fair, open-minded hiring policies. This marginalizing attitude by many private education institutions, alongside a general acceptance by veiled Turkish teachers of this reality, lead to what I term a “transformational paralysis” or a failure to reflect change within the Turkish private education system. This study suggests that the only way to balance the educational sphere in Türkiye and bring it up to par with the realities of Turkish society would be to bridge strong ideological divides using the most effective tool of all: education. By challenging stale viewpoints held by previous generations and by promoting equity and diversity within the educational sphere, a more equitable education would promote tolerance and foster respect for religious differences in a society with a history of religious divide
Mapping American attitudes towards refugees and immigrants: Insights into anti-refugee and anti-Muslim sentiments
The number of refugees across the world is increasing rapidly, as is the prevalence of Islamophobia. This flow of people and changing perceptions of them usually result in negative attitudes and hostility toward Muslims and refugees since they are perceived as the “outgroup”. This globally prevalent trend is usually attributable especially to refugees being perceived as a social, economic, or security threat. The goal of this paper is to understand Americans’ perception of outgroups and how they are related to anti-refugee and anti-Muslim sentiment by using a data-driven approach. We used latent class analysis (LCA) to determine whether there were any latent classes concerning outgroup attitudes in the US. Our results showed that people fall into four different categories regarding how they perceive Muslims, refugees, and minorities. At the same time, there were five different latent classes regarding how they perceive immigrants. This paper aims to explore this complex issue and help to reduce prejudice and intergroup conflict, ameliorate negative attitudes, and provide these groups with a stable social support system
