    Search for long-lived charged particles using large specific ionisation loss and time of flight in 140 fb−1 of pp collisions at sqrt(s) = 13 TeV with the ATLAS detector

    This paper presents a search for massive, charged, long-lived particles with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider using an integrated luminosity of 140 fb-1 of proton-proton collisions at sqrt(s) = 13 TeV. These particles are expected to move significantly slower than the speed of light. In this paper, two signal regions provide complementary sensitivity. In one region, events are selected with at least one charged-particle track with high transverse momentum, large specific ionisation measured in the pixel detector, and time of flight to the hadronic calorimeter inconsistent with the speed of light. In the other region, events are selected with at least two tracks of opposite charge which both have a high transverse momentum and an anomalously large specific ionisation. The search is sensitive to particles with lifetimes greater than about 3 ns with masses ranging from 200 GeV to 3 TeV. The results are interpreted to set constraints on the supersymmetric pair production of long-lived R-hadrons, charginos and staus, with mass limits extending beyond those from previous searches in broad ranges of lifetime

    Differential cross-section measurements of D± and Ds±​ meson production in proton-proton collisions at sqrt(s) ​= 13 TeV with the ATLAS detector

    The production of D± and Ds± charmed mesons is measured using the D±/Ds±→φ(μμ)π± decay channel with 137 fb-1 of sqrt(s)=13 TeV proton-proton collision data collected with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) during the years 2016-2018. The charmed mesons are reconstructed in the range of transverse momentum 12<100 GeV and pseudorapidity ∣η∣<2.5. The differential cross-sections are measured as a function of transverse momentum (pT) and pseudorapidity (∣η∣), respectively, and compared with next-to-leading-order (NLO) QCD predictions. The predictions are found to be consistent with the measurements in the visible kinematic region within the large theoretical uncertainties

    Adapted Basketball Training Improves Fitness and Motivation in Adolescents with Moderate Obesity: A Randomized Controlled Trial

    Background: Adolescent obesity represents a global public health issue, with an urgent need for tailored intervention strategies, particularly in school settings. Objectives: This study investigated the impact of adapted basketball training—with and without video summaries—on BMI, fitness, motivation, and technical skills in adolescents with moderate obesity. Methods: Fifty-five participants were randomly assigned to one of three instructional modalities—a modified basketball program enriched with video summaries (ADAPT + VID), a modified program without videos (ADAPT), and a traditional program (CONT)—and completed an eight-week intervention. Before (T0) and after (T1) the intervention, participants in all three groups underwent testing to assess: (i) anthropometric measurements (BMI), (ii) technical accuracy (passing, dribbling, and shooting), (iii) physical fitness using the Intermittent Fitness Test 15-15 (Spartacus Test), and (iv) motivation using the Situational Motivation Scale. Results: Assessments revealed significant improvements in the ADAPT + VID group, with notable reductions in BMI (d = 0.25, p < 0.05), enhanced physical fitness (d = 0.19, p = 0.002), and improved performance in passing (d = 1.42, p < 0.001), dribbling (d = 1.30, p < 0.001), and free-throw shooting (d = 0.80, p < 0.001). Moreover, a significant increase in intrinsic motivation (d = 1.18, p < 0.001) and a reduction in amotivation (d = 1.12, p < 0.001) were observed. Conclusions: These findings suggest that incorporating pedagogical video summaries into an adapted basketball program may effectively improve physical health, motor skills, and motivation among adolescents with moderate obesity

    Advances of Spatio-Temporal Clustering For Evaluating The Interaction Between Tourism And Environment

    Nowadays, there is a growing interest to assess sustainability, which is assuming a key role in various socio-economic areas. In this context, the tourism sector, which is an important factor in terms of economic and social development, has a significant impact on the environment and contributes to climate change. For this reason, there is more and more attention on any forms of sustainable and green tourism and consequently on studies that combine the two underlying domains, that is the tourism growth and the environment safeguard. The aim of this work is to develop a methodological framework for a spatio-temporal clustering model to investigate the in- teraction between tourism and environmental factors in Italy, as well as the pattern recognition in order to reduce the intrinsic heterogeneity of Italian territory. In particular, an innovative boos- trap spatio-temporal clustering is proposed, where the Ward hierarchical clustering algorithm that includes spatial and temporal constraints is included. The space-time component is built as a combination of a spatial distance matrix and a temporal distance matrix based on the con- cept of a space-time metric. This new unsupervised algorithm can be performed for time series that may dier in length. The results obtained by using the proposed procedure are illustrated through a real data set characterized by several tourism and environmental indicators, taken during a five-year period for the administrative regions (NUTS2 level) of Italy.     Tuning Metaheuristics with Tree-Structured Parzen Estimator: A Case Study on Scheduling

    Optimizing production schedules with sequence-dependent setup times (SDSTs) represents a critical challenge in manufacturing operations. This study proposes an intelligent scheduling framework that combines a Genetic Algorithm (GA) with automated parameter tuning using the Tree-Structured Parzen Estimator (TPE). The TPE learns from previous optimization runs to systematically adjust GA parameters, eliminating manual trial-and-error approaches. We evaluate the method on parallel machine scheduling problems with SDSTs, comparing performance against exact algorithms under equivalent computational time constraints. Experimental results demonstrate significant total completion time reductions of up to 32.12% in best cases and 14.87% on average compared to exact methods. When TPE is applied to Simulated Annealing instead of GA, performance consistently degrades by 1.10% to 13.23%, confirming the superiority of the GA-based approach. The proposed framework offers a scalable, adaptive solution for manufacturing scheduling optimization with direct implications for production efficiency and cost reduction

    Il progetto di paesaggio come dotazione territoriale

    Interrogarsi oggi sul ruolo, sulle relazioni e sulle potenzialità della rete dei servizi collettivi significa costruire nuove categorie interpretative capaci di restituire la complessità dei paesaggi del welfare e intraprendere politiche per innalzare il livello di abitabilità, garantire il diritto di cittadinanza, costruire spazi democratici. Tali riflessioni sembrano essere maggiormente urgenti se si guarda ai territori della provincia italiana, nei quali si amplificano da un lato quei processi di contrazione demografica, invecchiamento della popolazione, degrado ambientale e dismissione del patrimonio, dall’altro una forte crescita dell’esigenza di maggiore abitabilità e qualità dello spazio pubblico. Da queste riflessioni ha preso le mosse il progetto territoriale di paesaggio Parco agricolo multifunzionale del Negroamaro, il quale si propone come un esperimento innovativo di costruzione di welfarescape, mediante l’uso del paesaggio come elemento di valore per l’innalzamento del benessere dell’abitabilità urbana. Lo sfondo del progetto è l’incremento della dotazione degli standard urbanistici, nei termini di spazi verdi, attraverso la rimodulazione del concetto di parco, qui inteso come una parte del territorio rurale da valorizzare e da riconnettere agli ambiti urbani a sostegno delle pratiche quotidiane d’uso del territorio. In risposta alla crisi climatica globale, al degrado ambientale periurbano e allo sfruttamento del suolo da agricoltura intensiva, il progetto di paesaggio prova a lavorare in una dimensione intermedia, proponendo una strategia di adattamento e riconnessione ecologica

    Measurement of double-differential charged-current Drell-Yan cross-sections at high transverse masses in pp collisions at sqrt(s) = 13 TeV with the ATLAS detector

    This paper presents a first measurement of the cross-section for the charged-current Drell-Yan process pp→W±→l±ν above the resonance region, where l is an electron or muon. The measurement is performed for transverse masses (mTW) between 200 GeV and 6 TeV. The analysis uses 140 fb-1 of pp collision data at sqrt(s) =13 TeV collected by the ATLAS detector at the LHC. The inclusive cross-section measurements are corrected for detector effects and compared to the latest Standard Model (SM) predictions. Differential cross-section measurements are also reported as a function of the transverse mass mTW and the absolute charged-lepton pseudorapidity ∣η∣. A test of lepton flavour universality (LFU) shows no significant deviations from the SM. The electron and muon channel measurements are combined to achieve a total experimental precision of 3% at low mTW. This measurement is sensitive to new physics effects, such as four-fermion operators in Effective Field Theories (EFT), whose effects grow quadratically with energy. The results are interpreted as electroweak precision tests and are expected to surpass previous sensitivities from the LEP experiment. Limits are set on EFT coefficients using the mTW spectrum
