SWOT methodology and business environment analysis: critical rewiew
U završnom radu istražuje se primjena SWOT metodologije kao alata za strateško planiranje i upravljanje u različitim poduzećima. SWOT analiza, koja se temelji na identifikaciji snaga, slabosti, prilika i prijetnji, koristi se za razumijevanje unutarnjih i vanjskih čimbenika koji utječu na poslovanje te omogućuje organizacijama donošenje informiranih odluka i prilagodbu promjenjivim uvjetima poslovanja. Kroz studije slučaja izabranih poduzeća, rad prikazuje kako su se rezultati SWOT analize koristili za razvoj strategija i donošenje odluka koje su unaprijedile njihove konkurentske prednosti i minimizirale rizike. Analizirani primjeri uključuju različite industrije i veličine poduzeća, što omogućuje sveobuhvatan uvid u primjenu SWOT analize u stvarnim poslovnim situacijama. Na temelju rezultata istraživanja, rad zaključuje da SWOT metodologija igra ključnu ulogu u unapređenju poslovne strategije i donošenju informiranih odluka. Kritički dio rada naglašava da SWOT analiza često ostaje na površinskoj razini, bez dublje interpretacije i prioritizacije ključnih faktora. Osim toga, primjena među različitim organizacijama pokazala je nedosljednosti u kvaliteti i temeljitosti provedbe. Preporučuje se kombinacija SWOT analize s kvantitativnim analitičkim alatima i strukturiranje procesa analize kako bi se povećala preciznost i osigurala njezina praktična primjenjivost u suvremenim poslovnim izazovima.In the final paper, the application of SWOT methodology as a tool for strategic planning and management in various companies is explored. SWOT analysis, based on the identification of strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats, is used to understand internal and external factors affecting business operations and enables organizations to make informed decisions and adapt to changing business conditions. Through case studies of selected companies, the paper demonstrates how the results of SWOT analysis were utilized to develop strategies and make decisions that enhanced their competitive advantages and minimized risks. The analyzed examples span various industries and company sizes, providing a comprehensive insight into the application of SWOT analysis in real business situations. Based on the research findings, the paper concludes that SWOT methodology plays a crucial role in improving business strategy and making informed decisions. The critical part of the paper highlights that SWOT analysis often remains superficial, lacking deeper interpretation and prioritization of key factors. Additionally, its application across different organizations has shown inconsistencies in the quality and thoroughness of execution. It is recommended to combine SWOT analysis with quantitative analytical tools and to structure the analysis process to enhance precision and ensure its practical applicability in contemporary business challenges
Microbiome Dysbiosis as a Driver of Neurodegeneration: Insights into Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s Diseases
Microbiome dysbiosis—an imbalance in gut microbial communities—has emerged as a critical factor in the pathogenesis of neurological disorders, particularly Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases. This review examines the role of gut microbiota in neurodegeneration, emphasizing how dysbiosis disrupts gut–brain communication through mechanisms such as impaired gut permeability, systemic inflammation, and neuroinflammation. The gastrointestinal and central nervous systems interact bidirectionally, with microbial metabolites like short-chain fatty acids playing a pivotal role in maintaining gut and brain health. Dysbiotic shifts in microbial composition can compromise the blood–brain barrier, enabling inflammatory molecules to alter brain biochemistry and potentially accelerate neurodegenerative processes. Additionally, this review explores therapeutic strategies—including probiotics, prebiotics, and dietary modifications—designed to restore microbial balance, reduce neuroinflammation, and slow disease progression. Further research is essential to refine microbiome-targeted therapies and fully elucidate their potential in managing neurodegenerative diseases
Optimisation of coagulation factor IX purification from human plasma
Tradicionalne metode proizvodnje terapeutskih proteina često u upstream procesu uključuju
uzgoj staničnih linija, sakupljanje stanica, staničnu lizu, precipitaciju proteina, filtraciju i druge
korake. U downstream procesima, procesima pročišćavanja terapeutskih proteina, koristi se
kromatografija. Ključan korak optimizacije procesa čišćenja terapeutskih proteina iz
kompleksnih smjesa, bila bi implementacija kromatografskih nosača na koje se mogu direktno
primjeniti uzorci kompleksnih karakteristika, bez potrebe za dodatnom obradom i/ili
predrazrijeđivanjem uzorka. U ovom radu to je demonstrirano na primjeru pročišćavanja
koagulacijskog faktora IX IZ nerazrijeđene ljudske plazme sa odstranjenim krioprecipitatom.
U tradicionalnom postupku čiščenja faktora IX, uzorak plazme se razrjeđuje, nakon čega
slijede dva koraka kromatografije ionske izmjene. Kao posljednji korak koristi se afinitetna
kromatografija na nosaču sa heparinskim ligandom životinjskog porijekla. Rezultati ovog
istraživanja pokazuju da je na monolitne polimetakrilatne kromatografske nosače moguće
direktno nanositi kompleksne biološke uzorke, a da pritom ne dolazi do neželjenih
biokemijskih i biofizikalnih promjena ljudske plazme. To svojstvo monolitnih
polimetarkrilatnih nosača iskorišteno je za pročišćavanje koagulacijskog faktora IX direktno iz
plazme sa odstranjenim krioprecipitatom na DEAE kationskim izmjenjivačima. Također,
utvrđeno je da se kao alternativa kromatografskim nosačima sa imobiliziranim heparinskim
ligandom, u daljnjem pročišćavanju faktora IX mogu upotrijebiti kromatografski nosači sa
kovalentno vezanim sulfatnim skupinama. Implementacija prethodna dva koraka predstavlja
osnovu za novi (semi)kontinuirani proces proizvodnje u svrhu čišćenja i izolacije terapijskog
pripravka koagulacijskog faktora IX.Traditional methods used in the upstream production of therapeutic proteins often include
cell lines, cell harvesting and lysis, protein precipitation, filtration, and other steps.
Chromatography is usually used in the downstream processes. A key step towards optimizing
the process of therapeutic proteins purification from complex mixtures, would be the
implementation of chromatographic supports to which samples with complex characteristics
can be directly applied, without the need for additional processing and/or pre-dilution of the
sample. Using the example of undiluted human plasma, it was demonstrated that it is possible
to directly apply complex biological materials to monolithic polymethacrylate
chromatographic supports, without unwanted biochemical and biophysical changes in the
biological material. This property of monolithic polymethacrylate supports was used to purify
coagulation factor IX directly from plasma with cryoprecipitate removed. In the traditional
purification process of factor IX, the last step is affinity chromatography on a support with a
heparin ligand of animal origin. In our experiments, it was established that as an alternative
to chromatographic carriers with immobilized heparin ligand, chromatographic carriers with
covalently bound sulfate groups can be used. The implementation of the previous two steps
represents the basis for a new (semi)continuous production process for the purpose of
cleaning and isolating the therapeutic preparation of coagulation factor IX
The Power of Movement: Linking Physical Activity with Nutritional Health and Blood Sugar Balance in a Dalmatian Type 2 Diabetic Population
Background and Objectives: Regular physical activity (PA) and Mediterranean diet (MeDi) adherence independently improve glycemic control and clinical outcomes in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). This study examined the associations between PA, body composition (BC), MeDi adherence, and glycemic control in Dalmatian T2DM patients. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted at the University Hospital of Split (November–December 2023) during an open call for T2DM patients. Data collected included blood/urine samples, blood pressure, BC, and anthropometrics. MeDi adherence and PA were assessed via the Mediterranean Diet Service Score and the International PA Questionnaire-Short Form. Results: Among 252 participants (median age: 67 years, IQR: 60–73; 51.6% women; median T2DM duration: 10 years, IQR: 6–20), PA levels were low (31.4%, N = 79), moderate (45.2%, N = 114), and high (23.4%, N = 59), with uniformly low MeDi adherence across groups. What Do Wine Tourists Want?
Wine tourism represents a fast-growing segment of the tourist market, at the center of which is the experience of wine tourists who travel for the purpose of experiencing wineries in well known wine regions. Much empirical research in the field of wine tourism is focused on examining the attitudes of visitors to wineries and wine events. However, since such research may miss the possibility of examining the intentions and perceptions of future visitors, this chapter aims to identify the salient features of wineries and wine regions from the perspective of potential wine tourists, with the aim of understanding the features that could influence the decision to visit a winery or wine region. For this purpose, a survey focused on potential wine tourists in the Primorje-Gorski Kotar and Istria counties was conducted. A total of 108 valid responses were collected through the survey. Factor analysis identified the following four factors that represent different dimensions of the wine tourism experience: the ambiance, the cultural heritage of the destination, the winery experience, and the local wine and
gastronomic offer of the destination. Moreover, the regression analysis found that the local gastronomic offer of the destination is a significant predictor of the winery experience. The results of the research imply that the motivation for choosing a wine region as a tourist destination, that is, the intention to visit a certain winery, is not only influenced by the desire to enjoy wine, but also by the features of the tourist offer and the region's natural and cultural heritage
Brewery plant automation - transfer and boiling of wort with hop dosing
U ovome radu opisana je automatizacija segmenta tvornice koji se bavi kuhanjem piva.
Sastoji se od tri glavana elementa automatizacije: spremnika za držanje, kotla za kuhanje te
vrtložnog spremnika. Medij, tj. sladovina ulazi u spremnik za držanje koji čeka signal
spremnosti za transferiranje od kotla za kuhanje. Prilikom transferiranja medija iz jednog
spremnika u drugi, započinje proces zagrijavanja kotla za kuhanje korištenje PID regulacije.
Nakon završetka transferiranja medija iz spremnika za držanje, operater pokreće proces
doziranja hmelja unutar kotla za kuhanje, te počinje proces kuhanja piva. Nakon završetka
kuhanja piva, transferira se medij iz kotla za kuhanje u vrtložni spremnik nakon signala
spremnosti vrtložnog spremnika. Vrtložni spremnik obrađuje medij, te ga transferira u dio
postrojenja koji nije opisan u ovome radu. Proces svakog elementa je detaljno opisan, te je
automatizacija izvršena pomoću Siemens SIMATIC S7-300 PLC-a, te konfiguracije STEP 7 i
Brewmaxx sučelja.This paper describes the automation of a brewery segment focused on beer brewing. It
consists of three main automation elements: holding vessel, wort kettle and whirlpool tank. The
medium, i.e., wort, enters the holding vessel, which waits for a readiness signal to transfer to
the wort kettle. During the transfer of the medium from one tank to another, the wort kettle
heating process begins using PID control. Once the transfer from the holding vessel is complete,
the operator initiates the hop dosing process within the wort kettle, marking the start of the beer
brewing process. After the brewing process is finished, the medium is transferred from the wort
kettle to whirlpool tank upon receiving the readiness signal from the whirlpool tank. The
whirlpool tank processes the medium and transfers it to another part of brewery that is not
described in this paper. Each element of the process is described in detail, and the automation
is implemented using a Siemens SIMATIC S7-300 PLC, along with the STEP 7 configuration
and the Brewmaxx interface
TERMODINAMIČKA ANALIZA PROCESA SUŠENJA VLAŽNIM ZRAKOM
Cilj ovog rada je usporediti i analizirati osnovne termodinamičke procese sušenja u različitim uvjetima rada. Na početku rada su dane najbitnije informacije o vlažnom zraku. Objašnjene su fizikalne veličine i promjene stanja vlažnog zraka te njihov prikaz u Mollierovom hx – dijagramu. Također su navedeni osnovni primjeri primjene vlažnog zraka. Nakon toga opisani su svi osnovni termodinamički procesi sušenja te njihove karakteristike. U drugom dijelu rada proveden je termodinamički proračun za sve procese sušenja s promjenjivim stanjem atmosferskog zraka te maksimalne temperature u procesu. U sljedećem poglavlju prikazani su rezultati svih proračuna te je provedena detaljna analiza i usporedba između procesa sušenja, kao i utjecaja promjena osnovnih parametara na provođenje istih. Analiziran je svaki od procesa te su dane smjernice za odabir između procesa i optimalnu primjenu istih.The aim of this thesis is to compare and analyze the basic thermodynamic processes of drying under different operating conditions. At the beginning the most important information about moist air are given. The physical units and changes in the state of moist air are explained and their representation in the Mollier hx – diagram have been given. Basic examples of the application of moist air are also given. After that, all basic thermodynamic drying processes and their characteristics are described. In the second part, a thermodynamic calculation was performed for all drying processes for different atmospheric air conditions and maximal temperatures in the process. The following chapter presents the results of all calculations. Detailed analysis and comparison between the drying processes was performed, as well as the influence of analysed parameters on their implementation. Each of the processes have been analysed and guidelines are given for the selection between the processes and their optimal application
Contribution of Sorting Nexin 3 in the Cytomegalovirus Assembly
Background/Objectives: Cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection expands early endosomes (EEs) into tubular extensions that may contribute to the control of virus replication and virion assembly. Sequential recruitment of protein coats and sorting nexins (SNXs) creates membrane zones at the EEs that serve as scaffolds for membrane tubulation and retrieval of cargo proteins, including host cell signaling proteins and viral glycoproteins. This study aims to investigate whether the SNX3-dependent zone of EEs contributes to CMV replication and assembly. Methods: Protein localization was analyzed by confocal imaging and expression by Western blot. The contribution of SNX3 to murine CMV (MCMV) replication, assembly compartment (AC) formation, and virion release was analyzed by siRNA and shRNA depletion. The impact of other downstream SNXs that act in EE tubulation was investigated by combined siRNA knockdowns of SNX1, SNX2, SNX4, SNX17, and SNX27 on cell lines expressing shRNA for SNX3. Results: The SNX3-162 isoform acting at EEs was efficiently knocked down by siRNA and shRNA. The SNX3-dependent EE zone recruited SNX27 and contributed to Rab10-dependent tubulation within the pre-AC. SNX3 was not essential for MCMV replication but contributed to the SNX27-, SNX17- and SNX4-dependent release of virions. Silencing SNX3 further reduced the release of virions after silencing SNX27, SNX4, and SNX17, three SNXs that control recycling to the plasma membrane. Conclusions: SNX3 contributes to the formation of pre-AC and MCMV assembly. It acts sequentially with SNX27, SNX4, and SNX17 along the recycling pathway in the process of the production and release of infection virions, suggesting that multiple membrane sources may contribute to the secondary envelopment of MCMV virions

Zbirka zadataka iz analitičke kemije
Zbirka zadataka iz analitičke kemije pripremljena je u skladu s nastavnim programom kolegija „Analitička kemija“ koji se izvodi na Fakultetu biotehnologije i razvoja lijekova Sveučilišta u Rijeci. Namijenjena je studentima (studenticama) prve godine preddiplomskog studija Biotehnologija i istraživanje lijekova i drugih srodnih studija.
Sadržaj Zbirke zadataka prilagođen je izvođenju auditornih vježbi seminarske nastave u okviru nastavnog programa kolegija. Zbirka sadrži teorijski dio, riješene zadatke i zadatke za vježbu s rješenjima.
