Relationship Between Complex PTSD Symptoms and Emotion Dysregulation : graduation thesis
Background: Complex posttraumatic stress disorder is characterized by core PTSD symptoms along with disturbances in self-organization, including affective dysregulation, negative self- concept, and interpersonal difficulties. Emotion dysregulation is considered a central component of cPTSD, yet the specific relationship between emotion dysregulation and distinct cPTSD symptom clusters warrant further exploration. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among military veterans (N = 62) using the DERS-16 to assess emotion dysregulation and the International Trauma Questionnaire to measure cPTSD symptoms. Descriptive statistics, the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test, and box plots were used to evaluate variable distributions. Due to non-normality, Spearman correlation coefficients were calculated to assess associations between emotion dysregulation and cPTSD symptom severity. ANOVA tests were conducted to examine further correlations. Analyses were performed using JASP version 0.19.3, with significance set at p f 0.05. Results: Strong positive correlations were found between overall cPTSD severity and emotion dysregulation. DSO symptom clusters were significantly more correlated with emotion dysregulation than core PTSD clusters. Among PTSD symptoms, avoidance showed moderate correlation with emotion dysregulation, re- experiencing showed a weak correlation, and threat-related symptoms were not significantly associated. Furthermore, longer combat duration was significantly related to higher emotion dysregulation and more severe DSO symptoms, particularly impulsivity, emotional clarity, and lack of regulation strategies. Conclusions: The findings reinforce the conceptualization of cPTSD as a disorder fundamentally rooted in emotion dysregulation. DSO features, especially affective dysregulation and negative self-concept, appear intrinsically linked to difficulties in managing emotional responses. Additionally, prolonged trauma exposure (e.g., extended combat) contributes significantly to these difficulties
Translation and Adaptation of the Survey of Organizational Research Climate to the Croatian Context
An organizational climate based on research integrity is one of the key goals of contemporary universities and scientific organizations. Survey of Organizational Research Climate is widely tested and used instrument for measuring organizational climate based on research integrity developed in the USA; however, its successful use in different cultures and environments requires translation and adaptation. This study aims to translate and adapt Survey of Organizational Research Climate to the social, legal, and cultural context of Croatia in a three-phase process. First, we translated the survey into Croatian using a double-blind forward and backward translation method. Next, we conducted a content validity assessment in which experts examined whether all relevant aspects of the research integrity climate were successfully translated and adapted to the Croatian context. Finally, a face validity assessment was performed to evaluate the comprehensibility of the survey among typical representatives of the academic population in Croatia. Croatian version of the Survey of Organizational Research Climate survey will enable successful monitoring and evaluation of organizational climate in Croatian educational institution with internationally comparable results
Treatment of chondral knee lesions
Physical activity is an important component of health and well-being for people of all ages.
Unfortunately, physical activity also carries a risk of injury. The knee joint, due to its location and complex functioning, is very susceptible to damage. The annual incidence of any clinically diagnosed soft-tissue knee injury for the whole population is estimated to be 720 per 100,000 persons [1]. The knee is the most commonly injured joint by adolescent athletes, with an estimated 2.5 million sports-related injuries presenting to emergency departments annually. [2].
The term chondral knee lesions refer to a damage or an alteration of the physiological structure of the articular cartilage of the knee joint. The cartilage is a white smooth tissue covering the epiphyses of the bones where they come together to form joints. Its function is to reduce friction during movement and provide cushioning to absorb impact. When the cartilage is damaged, it can lead to pain, swelling and reduced function of the knee
Impact of Light Pollution on the Development of Obesity by Influencing the Quality of Sleep : Graduation Thesis
The increasing prevalence of light pollution has been recognized as a significant environmental factor influencing sleep quality and metabolic health. This thesis investigates the hypothesis that light pollution contributes to obesity development by dysrupting sleep patterns. Exposure of artificial light at night interferes with the circadian rhythm, leading to melatonin suppression, fragmented sleep, delayed sleep onset and hormonal imbalances. Leptin, ghrelin and cortisol are mostly affected by ALAN and contribute to increased hunger and appetite, weight gain, fat accumulation and insulin resistance. This paper shows recent evidence, by presenting several studies and review papers linking higher obesity rates to light pollution. This thesis underlines the importance of recognizing light pollution as a modifiable risk factor in the obesity epidemic and advocates for integrated approaches to combine environmental, lifestyle and interventions to improve human health
The impact of IglF mutant of Francisella tularensis LVS strain on the intracelullar replication
Sastavljanje T6SS ovisi o iglF, iglI, iglJ i iglG.
Francisella tularensis is a gram-negative, facultative intracellular bacterium that causes the disease tularemia in animals and humans. Due to its high infectivity, aerosol spread, and ability to cause severe clinical symptoms, F. tularensis has been categorized as a potential bioterrorist agent. F. tularensis subsp. holarctica strain LVS (live vaccine strain) is a live attenuated vaccine. LVS is virulent in mice but not in humans, and is often used in experimental studies of Francisella virulence. Francisella tularensis is a bacterium with a wide host range, and the primary reservoir of the disease is rodents and rabbits. The main mechanism of pathogenesis is the ability of Francisella to evade recognition and elimination
by the immune system within host cells. One of the primary virulence factors of F. tularensis is the atypical type VI secretion system (T6SS), which is regulated by the Francisella pathogenicity island (FPI). The assembly of the T6SS depends on iglF, iglI, iglJ, and iglG. Although the role of numerous genes has been discovered, the role of the iglF gene in the pathogenesis of tularemia has not yet been investigated. This final work aimed to determine the role of the iglF gene in the intracellular reproduction of F. tularensis by measuring the number of bacteria in immortalized mouse macrophages after infection with F. tularensis subsp. holarctica strain LVS, mutant ΔiglF, and its complement iglF/iglF. Cells were infected at a ratio of 1:100. The number of intracellular bacteria was determined 2, 24, 48, 72, and 168 hours after infection. By analyzing differences in intracellular survival of F. tularensis subsp. holarctica strain LVS, ΔiglF mutants, and iglF/iglF complements show that the presence of a functional iglF gene is necessary for efficient survival and reproduction within the host cell. The most significant indicator of the research is a statistically significant decrease in the number of intracellular bacteria of the ΔiglF mutant in all observed periods
Quality of life of patients with chronic lymphocitic leukemia
Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) is the most common leukemia in adults, and is characterized by the accumulation of mature but functionally incompetent B-lymphocytes in the blood, bone marrow, and lymph nodes. Most patients are asymptomatic at the time of diagnosis, and treatment begins only when symptoms appear or the disease progresses. Diagnosis is based on laboratory findings and phenotypic analysis of the cells. Targeted drugs, such as BTK and BCL2 inhibitors, are most often used in therapy, which have replaced chemotherapy in the first-line treatment. The prognosis varies, but the relative five-year survival is about 89%. The quality of life (HRQoL) of patients is significantly impaired due to fatigue, infections, side effects of treatment, emotional stress, and social problems. Standardized questionnaires (EORTC QLQ-C30, QLQ-CLL17) are used to assess HRQoL, which record patients' symptoms and burden. Quality of life depends on the stage of the disease and the type of therapy – patients who are on active surveillance have better physical, but worse emotional and social well-being compared to those who are on therapy. Fatigue and concern about the future are the most common and most difficult problems related to all dimensions of HRQoL.
HRQoL in patients with CLL is an extremely important aspect of treatment, especially considering the prolonged life expectancy due to new therapies. Numerous challenges often impair HRQoL, and a personalized, holistic approach to treatment can significantly contribute to its improvement. Further adaptation and standardization of tools for measuring HRQoL and the inclusion of a wider patient population in research are necessary
Improvement of Oxidative Stability and Antioxidative Capacity of Virgin Olive Oil by Flash Thermal Pretreatment—Optimization Process
Flash thermal pretreatment (FTT) is a promising technique for enhancing virgin olive oil (VOO) quality. This study investigated the effects of FTT, both cooling (15–25 °C) and heating (30–40 °C), on phenolics, tocopherols, fatty acid composition, oxidative stability (OSI), antioxidant capacity (AC), and volatile composition in VOOs from three Croatian varieties: Istarska Bjelica, Levantinka, and Oblica. A full factorial experimental design was used with two independent variables: treatment temperature and olive variety. Olive pastes were treated after crushing and before malaxation. Data were evaluated using ANOVA, partial least squares (PLS) regression, and response surface methodology (RSM). Istarska Bjelica showed the highest OSI improvement (+16%) mostly linked to elevated phenolic compounds. Levantinka exhibited moderate responses, with slight OSI and AC declines. Oblica was most sensitive to heating, showing OSI and AC reductions (up to 28%), despite increased oleocanthal and olacein. RSM identified optimal FTT temperatures for each variety: 18.9 °C (Istarska Bjelica), 15.4 °C (Levantinka), and 15.5 °C (Oblica). These findings support variety-specific FTT as an effective strategy to improve VOO functional and sensory quality
The impact of LLMs on negotiation preparation in supermarket chains' sales and procurement departments in Primorsko-goranska County
This thesis explores the impact of LLMs on the negotiation preparation in supermarket chains' sales and procurement departments in Primorsko-goranska County. The main objective was to examine the degree to which LLMs are used there, especially with the purpose of preparing for business negotiations, and whether the users are content with the models’ role in improving their negotiation outcomes. The research was conducted using a survey that 75 respondents filled in. The main finding is that only 29% of the respondents ever used LLMs for professional purposes in general, and almost none use them to prepare for their business negotiations. However, the research also confirms the ongoing trend of more and more employees using LLMs at work, implying that the models may play a significant role in helping negotiators prepare for negotiations in the future.

Quaternions and 3D geometric transformations
