From the breakdown of psychiatry during nazism and the Nuremberg Code, to the materialist neuropsychological model in contemporary science and society: A bioethical analysis
Get PDFThe breakdown of German psychiatry with the coming to power of the National Socialist regime in 1933 resulted in a revival after the war of bioethical issues, the immediate effect of which was the enactment of the Nuremberg Code. In many ways, this breakdown was the result of the historical evolution of psychomedical knowledge and the mass dissemination of reductionist discourses and ideas that created a breeding ground for tragedy. The cyclical discourse of psychic materialism, which has been repeated for centuries in the history of science in different formulations, can, if not properly interpreted, lead to far-reaching appropriations and risks, to which due attention must be paid. The latest manifestation of this issue, the view of mental life as basically cerebral, neurological, biochemical, and determinist, a view that has not been managed or presented adequately to the public, could become the basis for perverse new perspectives and applications in the current context of research and academic activity.La llamada “quiebra” de la psiquiatría alemana en 1933, tras la llegada al poder del régimen nacionalsocialista, tuvo como resultado una reactivación de la cuestión bioética, cuyo efecto inmediato fue la promulgación del famoso Código de Nuremberg. En más de un sentido, tal ruptura fue el resultado del devenir histórico del conocimiento psicomédico, así como de la difusión masiva de discursos e ideas reduccionistas que terminaron por generar un caldo de cultivo propicio para la tragedia. El discurso cíclico del materialismo psíquico, que se reedita en la historia de la ciencia, en diferentes formatos y formulaciones, desde hace siglos, no bien interpretado, puede inducir apropiaciones y riesgos de largo alcance a los que se debe prestar la debida atención. Así, el último episodio de este asunto, la visión de la vida mental como vida básicamente cerebral, neurológica, bioquímica y determinista, no bien gestionado y presentado a la opinión pública, aunado a las condiciones actuales de la actividad investigadora y académica, podría convertirse en piedra angular de nuevas perspectivas y aplicaciones perversas de este asunto

No full textEl entorno digital es un espacio que cuenta con un marco normativo regulador que, de un tiempo a esta parte, parece haberse actualizado (Ley Orgánica 8/2021; Ley Orgánica 3/2018). Esta regulación normativa ofrece herramientas que facilitan contextualizar con mayor acierto acciones educativas que de éstas se deriven. Así, la presente investigación centra sus esfuerzos en recoger los conocimientos sobre las amenazas de seguridad que identifican 15 estudiantes universitarios con discapacidad intelectual. Tras un plan formativo diseñado para dar respuesta a las necesidades que más demandan estos jóvenes se han obtenido resultados muy interesantes. Por un lado, los participantes manifiestan, en muchas de las preguntas planteadas, diferencias por género. Por otro, se observa que a pesar de los esfuerzos realizados por atender a la brecha digital se deben de seguir realizando espacios formativos e informativos para dotarles de más herramientas para afrontar, con más garantías de éxito, las situaciones del entorno digital a las que se enfrentan personal y profesionalmente
A psychopathological reading of the blood sweat phenomenon and religious stigmas: The case of Blessed Elena Aiello
Get PDFAround 300 cases of stigma have been described since the 13th century. Hematidrosis, hemolacria, bloody otorrhea, vicarious menstruation, and Gardner-Diamond syndrome are dermatological manifestations that are also observed in cases of stigma. This paper presents the disconcerting circumstances in the life of the Blessed Elena Aiello. From 1923 until her death, she suffered severe hematidrosis blood sweating on her forehead,hands, feet and knees, just as stigmata appear at the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Stigmas, in Christian tradition, are marks corresponding to those left on Christ’s body by the torture and the Crucifixion, it’s said that are impressed on the person body by divine favor. These episodes, among the few recognised as authentic by the Catholic Church would appear each Friday in Lent, particularly on Good Friday. In this unique case study, doctors Fabrizio and Turano performed a medical study where the origin of the sores was unclear. Neurologist and psychiatrist Vincenzo Bianchi, on assessing the case, raised the possibility of simulation or mere suggestion on the part of the patient
ELEOIM: estudio sobre la enseñanza de ELE en las EOI de la Comunidad de Madrid
Get PDFLas investigaciones referentes al estudio de los cursos de español para inmigrantes en las Escuelas Oficiales de Idiomas (EOI) son escasas. El presente estudio aborda la complejidad del proceso de integración lingüística de los inmigrantes no hispanohablantes y enfatiza sobre el papel crucial de las EOI como ruta efectiva para fomentar el aprendizaje de la lengua y cultura hispánicas. El panorama general evidencia que solo una cuarta parte de EOI ofrece cursos de español y, por ende, se presenta, a través del proyecto ELEOIM, datos pioneros sobre diferentes variables de las EOI que imparte español actualmente en la Comunidad de Madrid. Se destacan datos relevantes como la diversidad de los idiomas, la antigüedad de los departamentos de español, el número de cursos, alumnado y profesorado, así como la presencia de múltiples nacionalidades y edades predominantes. Asimismo, se recogen las perspectivas de los profesionales que trabajan actualmente en estos centros y que permiten obtener una visión más específica del análisis realizado. En definitiva, estos hallazgos contribuyen a una reflexión más profunda sobre el estado de la lengua española en las EOI de España y, especialmente, de la Comunidad de Madrid y su relevancia en la integración lingüística de los inmigrantes
Una propuesta de innovación para trabajar la Disciplina Positiva en el aula de Educación Primaria
Get PDFEl presente trabajo de fin de grado que se plantea a continuación es una propuesta de innovación, destinada a alumnos y padres de alumnos de segundo de Educación Primaria. El principal objetivo de la realización de dicho trabajo es que se entienda la importancia de esta etapa en la vida de los niños, y cómo se les puede guiar en su desarrollo de manera efectiva y respetuosa, a través de la disciplina positiva. Para ello, en primer lugar, en el marco teórico se expondrán diferentes conceptos relacionados con la disciplina positiva, como son: la educación emocional, la convivencia, la autorregulación, la enseñanza respetuosa, los límites, etc. En la segunda parte del trabajo se desarrolla una propuesta que incluye: técnicas de resolución de conflictos, métodos de gestión y regulación emocional, y recursos para que se desarrollen correctas habilidades sociales
A silent burden: how negative experiences with public toilets impact quality of life and life satisfaction
No full textPublic toilets are a critical public health issue with a significant negative impact on people’s lives. Unfortunately, the effect of negative experiences caused
by public toilets on people’s quality of life and life satisfaction is unknown. In this study, participants (n = 550) were asked to fill in a scale-based survey
about their negative experiences with public toilets, quality of life, and life satisfaction. We found that people with toilet-dependent illnesses (36% of the
sample) reported more negative experiences with public toilets than their counterparts. These negative experiences are also related to lower scores in some
areas of participants’ quality of life, such as their environmental, psychological, and physical health and life satisfaction, even after controlling for relevant
socio-economic variables. Additionally, toilet-dependent individuals had particularly negative experiences in terms of life satisfaction and physical health
than non-toilet-dependent people. We conclude that the impoverishment of quality of life linked to public toilets as an environmental inadequacy is
traceable, estimable, and meaningful. This association is not only negative for ordinary people, but it is significantly negative for people with toilet dependent illnesses. These results highlight that public toilets are essential to ensure collective well-being, particularly when considering those affected by
their presence or lack thereof
Cortical Lewy body injections induce long-distance pathogenic alterations in the non-human primate brain
Get PDFAggregation of α-synuclein (α-syn) is the cornerstone of neurodegenerative diseases termed synucleinopathies, which include Parkinson’s Disease (PD), Dementia with Lewy Bodies (DLB), and Multiple System Atrophy (MSA). These synucleinopathies are characterized by the deposit of aggregated α-syn in intracellular inclusions observable in neurons and glial cells. In PD and DLB, these aggregates, predominantly located in neurons, are called Lewy Bodies (LBs). These LBs are one of the pathological hallmarks of PD and DLB, alongside dopaminergic neuron loss in the substantia nigra. Previous studies have demonstrated the ability of PD patient-derived LB fractions to induce nigrostriatal neurodegeneration and α-syn pathology when injected into the striatum or the enteric nervous system of non-human primates. Here, we report the pathological consequences of injecting these LB fractions into the cortex of non-human primates. To this end, we inoculated mesencephalic PD patient-derived LB fractions into the prefrontal cortex of baboon monkeys terminated one year later. Extensive analyses were performed to evaluate pathological markers known to be affected in LB pathologies. We first assessed the hypothesized presence of phosphorylated α-syn at S129 (pSyn) in the prefrontal cortices. Second, we quantified the neuronal, microglial, and astrocytic cell survival in the same cortices. Third, we characterized these cortical LB injections’ putative impact on the integrity of the nigrostriatal system. Overall, we observed pSyn accumulation around the injection site in the dorsal prefrontal cortex, in connected cortical regions, and further towards the striatum, suggesting α-syn pathological propagation. The pathology was also accompanied by neuronal loss in these prefrontal cortical regions and the caudate nucleus, without, however, loss of nigral dopamine neurons. In conclusion, this pilot study provides novel data demonstrating the toxicity of patient-derived extracts, their potential to propagate from the cortex to the striatum in non-human primates, and a possible primate model of DLB
To Green or Not to Green: The E-Commerce-Delivery Question
Get PDFIn an era in which e-commerce has become an integral facet of our lives, the delivery process
has evolved into a vital part of online shopping. As the sole tangible interaction in an otherwise
digital undertaking, it forms a decisive aspect of consumers’ e-commerce experience. In the face of
the ever-growing prevalence of e-commerce, the ecological footprint left by delivery practices has
emerged as a pressing concern. This focus is attributed not only to the environmental externalities
resulting from e-commerce delivery but also due to the system’s inherent inefficiencies. As the
primary beneficiaries of e-commerce, consumers form a pivotal force in driving sustainable delivery
initiatives. This study embarks on an exploration of consumers’ attitudes toward environmentally
friendly e-commerce-delivery practices. We aim to investigate whether consumers are willing to bear
additional costs for assured green deliveries and identify which sustainable practices they perceive
as most effective. A survey was conducted among e-commerce users to show their readiness to
incur higher costs for green delivery and accept delayed deliveries if they supported sustainability.
However, our findings reveal a conflicting scenario. While consumers display a readiness to opt for
green deliveries, the price and speed of delivery emerged as more critical considerations. This study
also uncovers significant discrepancies in attitudes towards green delivery based on demographic
factors, such as gender and generation. Utilizing multivariate logistic regression, the study outlines
the main factors that predict a willingness to pay for guaranteed green delivery. This study’s findings
stress the need to balance the drive for speed and cost-effectiveness in e-commerce delivery with the
urgency to adopt sustainable practices. It underscores the necessity for e-commerce platforms and
logistics partners to take the lead in crafting and implementing innovative green deli
