    Tracing Metal Dart Impacts Through 3D Reverse Modeling on the Northern Walls of Pompeii

    This study examines the first systematic documentation of a series of small impact marks on the northern walls of Pompeii, interpreted as the result of Roman metal dart projectiles launched during the Sullan siege in 89 BC. Using high-resolution, reality-based 3D models, comparative analysis, and reverse modeling techniques, the research explores the hypothesis that a distinctive fan-shaped configuration of quadrangular indentations may have been produced by a repeating catapult, known as the polybolos. The integration of close-range photogrammetry, laser scanning, and digital reconstruction tools demonstrates how virtual casts and comparative modeling can contribute to archaeological interpretations of ancient projectile weaponry

    The Prognostic Role of miR-375 in Head and Neck Squamous Cell Carcinoma: A Systematic Review, Meta-Analysis, and Trial Sequential Analysis

    Head and Neck Squamous Cell Carcinoma (HNSCC) is a heterogeneous group of malignancies with poor survival outcomes, particularly in advanced stages. Identifying prognostic biomarkers could help improve patient management. miR-375, a small non-coding RNA, has been shown to influence tumor growth and immune responses, making it a candidate biomarker. This study aims to evaluate the role of miR-375 expression in predicting survival outcomes in HNSCC patients. A systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted according to PRISMA guidelines, incorporating data from six studies and the TGCA cohort, encompassing 452 patients. Fixed-effects models were applied to calculate aggregated hazard ratios (HRs) for overall survival (OS). Kaplan–Meier curves were analyzed using the Tierney method, and Trial Sequential Analysis (TSA) was performed to assess statistical power. Low miR-375 expression was associated with poorer OS, with an aggregated HR of 1.23 (95% CI: 1.10–1.37). Subgroup analysis showed consistent trends across oral and laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma. Sensitivity analysis confirmed these findings. TSA revealed that although the number of patients was sufficient, statistical power was insufficient to confirm a predefined risk reduction ratio (RRR) of 49%. Data from the TGCA cohort supported the meta-analysis findings, with an HR for OS of 1.32 (95% CI: 0.96–1.8). Low miR-375 expression is associated with worse survival outcomes in HNSCC patients, indicating its potential as a prognostic biomarker and therapeutic target. However, the retrospective nature of the included studies underscores the need for prospective research to validate these findings

    A numerical study on curved additive manufactured BCC lattice structures: low velocity impact behaviour

    Nowadays use of sandwich structures in structural design is increasing, especially in transportation engineering fields, such as aeronautical and automotive. Sandwich structures are characterized by two thin layers (skins) with a thick, but light, core in the middle, for increased stiffness to bending. The improvement of additive manufacturing techniques opens the door to adopting lattice structures, very light and geometrically complex structures based on a repetitive element, as cores of sandwich structures. The advantages offered by these structures are related to the possibility to variate the structural behaviour by changing geometrical factors such as the array configuration, the unit cell shape or topology, and the relative density. The research presented in this paper is aimed at studying low velocity impact behaviour on curved additive manufactured body-centred cubic (BCC) lattice structures. These structures are characterized by a length L of 10 mm and are numerically designed by modifying the core unit cell topology. Starting from a linear configuration, sine-waved struts were introduced along the main diagonals of the cube, with a wavelength of 3L = 17.32 mm and an amplitude of 0.2 L. The curved shape is proposed with two different orientation. Moreover, the aim is to develop hybrid aluminium/composite structural solutions characterized by high energy absorption features for occupants passive safety purposes. Indeed, the components were able to absorb up to 76% of the initial impact energy with an indentation level lower than 3.7 mm. These structures feature low weight, due to a density of 0.715 g/cm3 for the whole component, and occupant protection in transportation.     In insurance contracts, the distinction between clauses limiting the risk and clauses excluding liability is often drawn in sharp terms, in order to determine the applicable legal framework and exempt the former from any substantive control. In light of a conception of contractual autonomy more consistent with the axiological hierarchy of the legal system, the paper proposes a functional interpretation of individual provisions, considering their impact on the actual allocation of interests and the specific features of the market in which they operate.Nel contratto di assicurazione, la distinzione tra clausole limitative del rischio e clausole di esonero della responsabilità è sovente tracciata in termini netti, al fine di determinare la normativa applicabile e sottrarre le prime a qualsiasi controllo sostanziale.     Designing a Cloud Continuum Architecture for a Collaborative Augmented and Virtual Reality Application in the Cultural Heritage Domain

    This study presents the design of a methodology supported by a collaborative architecture operating in a cloud-edge environment, capable of deploying virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) applications and enabling the sharing of operational space and bidirectional interaction between them. The proposed architecture addresses the challenges of integrating VR and AR systems, enabling users in virtual and augmented environments to interact in real time and operate collaboratively within a shared space. The project will design an architecture and define a methodology to operate between VR and AR platforms with different types of interaction. The architecture is also structured to support multiplayer and cross-platform interactions, making it adaptable to various application domains, including collaborative work, education, and entertainment

    Il ruolo della sensoristica attiva per la documentazione dei centri storici minori

    This paper presents the workflow adopted for the documentation of the historic centre of Chiuro, mainly focused on the acquisition through active sensors of the main streets of the urban centre and of some monumental buildings emblematic for their historical and artistic value. In addition to the tools and advanced technologies used for the acquisition of digital content in the form of three-dimensional point clouds, the methodological aspects and procedures concerning the integration of data from various sensors are examined in order to obtain a light, portable model, easily viewable and suitable for virtual interaction in dissemination applications in a simulated 3D environment. The processing of such data is therefore illustrated in the various steps to build polygonal mesh models of high detail and visual reliability, thanks to reduction and optimization operations that allow to use the 3D assets in a complete digital exploratory model of the central urban area of Chiuro.Il presente contributo espone il flusso di lavoro adottato per la documentazione del centro storico di Chiuro, soprattutto incentrato sulle acquisizioni mediante sensoristica attiva delle vie principali del nucleo urbano e di alcuni edifici monumentali emblematici per il loro valore storico-artistico. Oltre agli strumenti e le tecnologie avanzate impiegate per l’acquisizione dei contenuti digitali sotto forma di nuvole di punti tridimensionali, vengono esaminati gli aspetti metodologici e le procedure riguardanti l’integrazione dei dati provenienti da vari sensori al fine di ottenere un modello leggero, portatile, facilmente visualizzabile e adatto all’interazione virtuale in applicazioni di disseminazione in ambiente 3D simulato. Viene pertanto illustrato il processamento di tali dati nei vari passaggi che permettono di costituire modelli a maglia poligonale di alto dettaglio e affidabilità visiva, grazie a operazioni di riduzione e ottimizzazione che consentono di utilizzare gli asset 3D in un modello esplorativo digitale completo dell’area urbana centrale di Chiuro

    BEYOND BEST PRACTICES: NARRATIVES OF TECHNOSTRESS IN ITALIAN PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION

    The study of technostress within the Italian public administration invites a shift from the reassuring logic of best practices toward a more critical exploration of organizational errors and drifts that emerge during digitalization processes. Its goal is to uncover the shadow zones of public innovation—those spaces where technology, far from being a neutral tool, becomes an organizational actor capable of generating tension, misalignment, and forms of professional strain. The research is based on a narrative methodology and on in-depth interviews with administrative staff working across multiple public bodies and levels of government. This qualitative approach makes it possible to collect stories, experiences, and representations that reveal the organizational mechanisms underlying technostress. Thematic analysis of the data identified several recurring errors: viewing technology as a purely technical support rather than a social factor; enforcing digital systems through top-down decisions; neglecting data management and governance; relying on non-scalable pilot projects; and underestimating both training needs and issues of equity in access to digital tools. These patterns are synthesized into a “reverse toolbox”—a critical repertoire of bad practices that serves as both a theoretical framework and a practical guide for scholars and public managers. The reverse toolbox is not intended as a prescriptive instrument, but rather as a reflective one, designed to reframe error as a valuable source of organizational learning. In this sense, the study proposes to view error narratives not as evidence of failure but as cognitive and symbolic resources that can help public organizations design more conscious, human-centered, and sustainable innovation processes over time
