Metodologie dell'educazione musicale nei secolo XIX-XXI. Un panorama

    No full text

VEGF as a Relapse Marker and an Intensity of Disease Marker in Patients Affected by POEMS Syndrome Treated With Autologous Peripheral Blood Stem Cell Transplantation

    No full text
Overproduction of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) seems to contribute to the pathogenesis, still unclear, of POEMS Syndrome. Our study retrospectively reviewed the clinical and VEGF data from a multicenter Italian cohort of patients affected by POEMS syndrome who underwent to autologous peripheral blood stem cell transplantation (aPBSCT) in order to find an impact on clinical improvement or outcome. Patients with VEGF levels higher than 758 pg/mL were at higher risk of relapse, with sensible difference in PFS (p = 0.007). VEGF could be used as a marker of relapse and as a marker of disease intensity in patients with POEMS

Integrating virtual reality, electroencephalography, and transcranial magnetic stimulation to study the neural correlates of awe experiences: The SUBRAIN protocol

Introduction Awe is a complex emotion unveiling a positive and mixed nature, which resembles the Romantic feeling of the Sublime. It has increasingly become the object of scientific investigation in the last twenty years. However, its underlying brain mechanisms are still unclear. To fully capture its nature in the lab, researchers have increasingly relied on virtual reality (VR) as an emotion-elicitation method, which can resemble even complex phenomena in a limited space. In this work, a multidisciplinary team proposed a novel experimental protocol integrating VR, electroencephalography (EEG), and transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) to investigate the brain mechanisms of this emotion. Methods A group of bioengineers, psychologists, psychiatrists, and philosophers designed the SUBRAIN study, a single-center, one-arm, non-randomized interventional study to explore the neural processes underlying awe experiences. The study is ongoing and is expected to enroll fifty adults between 20 and 40 years of age. Currently, more than 40 individuals have been enrolled. The experimental protocol includes different steps: (i) screening, (ii) enrollment, (iii) pre-experimental assessment, (iv) VR experimental assessment, and (v) post-experimental debriefing. The brain’s electrical activity is recorded using the EEG while participants navigated three immersive awe-inducing VR environments and a neutral one. At the same time, the cortical excitability and connectivity is investigated by performing a TMS-EEG session right after each VR navigation. Along with cerebral signals, self-reported questionnaires were used to assess the VR-induced changes in the emotional state of the subjects. This data is then analyzed to delve into the cerebral mechanisms of awe

Proust et ses “espaces décrits” : une approche picturale du pays

    No full text

Tackling Extreme Inequalities in Education. Italian Teachers, Reception Workers and the Inclusion of Unaccompanied Foreign Minors

    No full text
The educational inclusion of Unaccompanied Foreign Minors (UAMs) remains a critical challenge within European migration and education policies. This study examines the role of Italian teachers, alongside reception workers, in addressing the educational inequalities faced by UAMs. Drawing on literature on the teacher effect and teachers’ intercultural responsibility, the research explores the attitudes and commitment of the adults involved in the educational relationship with UAMs. The empirical basis consists of qualitative data collected between 2020 and 2022, including nine focus groups with 60 teachers and 56 reception workers, as well as 52 semi-structured interviews with UAMs across various Italian regions. The findings highlight the role of teachers in either facilitating or hindering UAMs’ access to education, influenced by their intercultural competence and institutional constraints. Two governance models emerge: an “inclusion-oriented” model, characterized by structured collaboration between schools and reception facilities, and an “exclusion-oriented” model, marked by weak institutional coordination and discretionary practices. While some teachers support UAMs’ integration, others perpetuate bias and exclusion. Future research should focus on strengthening multi-agency governance frameworks, reducing institutional disparities, and enhancing teacher training in intercultural competences. A structured approach to UAMs’ education is essential to reducing inequalities and fostering meaningful social inclusion

Empathy Through Immersion: The Impact of 360-Degree Virtual Reality on Fostering Perspective-Taking and Sense of Oneness in the Embodiment of a Sexual Harassment Victim

    No full text
Sexual harassment (SH) against women is one of the most worldwide problems. To mitigate its incidence, various programs, including virtual reality (VR), have been developed for both prevention and treatment. 360-degree video has emerged as a subfield of VR capable of inducing the body swap illusion and facilitating perspective-taking (PT), as well as eliciting related emotions. The present study represents a progression from a previously published work, featuring a within-subjects design approach that showed the superiority of the immersive video to elicit empathy compared to a control condition. The aim is to investigate and validate the feasibility of using 360-degree video to foster empathy, PT, and a sense of oneness, potentially reducing violent attitudes toward a female victim of SH compared with a traditional PT task (control condition) in a between-subjects design. Forty Mexican men were randomly assigned to one of the conditions. Results confirmed the feasibility of the 360-degree video in significantly enhancing PT and a sense of oneness compared with the control condition. However, no significant changes were observed for the variables of empathy and violent attitude. Moreover, the findings supported the potential of the 360-degree video in eliciting a sense of ownership and presence with the virtual character and the immersive environment, with ownership showing a positive correlation with empathy and PT. Lastly, participant body awareness was found to be a positive predictor of ownership. Limitations and future directions are discussed

L’attuazione del Protocollo tra Italia e Albania in materia di migrazione al vaglio dei giudici interni: le difficoltà di una “esternalizzazione” che non violi i diritti fondamentali

    No full text
The essay first reconstructs the contents of the Italy-Albania Protocol and the first acts aimed at its implementation. It then analyses the case law which, by not validating the measures to detain migrants taken in Albania, has led, on each occasion, to their transfer to Italy, despite the regulatory changes approved in the meantime. Finally, attention will be devoted to some brief considerations on the Italian Government's very recent decision to radically change the destination of the Albanian centres

Damping Systemic Risk. The Role of Cooperative Banks

This chapter focuses on the countercyclical potentialities linked to the bank’s relational businessmodel. We prove that cooperative banks are less involved in themechanisms underlying systemic risk, thus verifying that their presence somehow contributes to mitigating this risk’s spread in a financial system. Referring to a group of Italian banks, an innovative methodological approach is proposed, with relative empirical implementation, based on some variables—available for all banks— considered in the literature as proxies of the systemic risk propagation speed and capacity and the banks’ health managerial status
