    Una aplicación de texto es un programa de software que permite crear nuevos documentos digitales, también abrir y actualizar los existentes. Documentos de Google (Google Docs) y Microsoft Word (parte de Office 365) son los procesadores de texto más populares. Si el documento fue creado en Microsoft Word, tendrá una extensión de .doc (versiones anteriores) o .docx (versiones recientes). Dado que los documentos de Word son tan omnipresentes, la mayoría de las aplicaciones de productividad pueden abrir documentos creados en Word. Además, es posible intercambiar los formatos de los documentos, por ejemplo, al cargar un documento de Word en Google Docs y al descargar un archivo de Google Docs como documento .docx. Cuando se piensa en un documento con información por lo general uno se imagina largas líneas de texto separadas por párrafos. Cualquier editor de texto simple, como Notepad, podría crear eso. Sin embargo, hay momentos en los que se desea un documento atractivo con colores, interlineado, fuentes especiales, hipervínculos y referencias. Para los documentos comerciales, es posible que se prefiera una revisión de colegas antes de enviarlos. Es aconsejable revisar la ortografía, corregir errores gramaticales incómodos y mejorar el vocabulario del texto. Si los colegas revisan el documento y sugieren cambios, se querrá hacer un seguimiento de los cambios y comentarios y comparar diferentes versiones para hacer el trabajo colaborativo más manejable. Si creas un folleto para una venta de garage en papel, es posible que debas dedicarte mucho tiempo a dibujar líneas, crear imágenes, agregar leyendas, resaltar y subrayar textos. Sin embargo, si tienes un procesador de texto, puedes utilizar una plantilla preformateada, ahorrando mucho tiempo y energía al mismo tiempo que creas un folleto más atractivo. Las plantillas también ayudan a no olvidar elementos importantes, como la hora y el lugar de la venta. Si el documento es especialmente largo, digamos una novela o una tesis, al usar un procesador de texto se puede numerar las páginas, agregar información de encabezado y pie de página y tener títulos en los capítulos. Un índice creado automáticamente al comienzo del documento permitirá a los lectores pasar con facilidad entre los capítulos. Cuando estés listo para imprimir tu documento, es posible que debas ajustar el diseño, la orientación y el tamaño del margen. La función de vista previa de impresión permite ver cómo se verán las hojas impresas antes de comenzar a imprimir, ahorrando tinta y papel en la impresora. Las dos aplicaciones de software de procesamiento de textos más populares en el mercado son Word de Microsoft y Documentos de Google (Google Docs). Microsoft Word, un programa pago de software que se encuentra en la mayoría de las oficinas. Por otro lado, Google Docs es gratuito y está basado en un navegador.     A Simple Synthetic Example of the Benefits of Coincident Ground Penetrating Radar and Seismic Data Acquisition for Shallow Lunar Exploration

    Both seismic and ground penetrating radar (GPR) methods have been used separately to image geophysical wave velocities and layering in the shallow lunar subsurface. However, uncertainties in the interpretation of both types of data persist. Collection of both types of data at a given site could reduce uncertainties in both the positions and nature of contacts. We illustrate the potential benefits of coincident data acquisition through a hypothetical case study of a lunar “lava tube” represented by a half-cylindrical vacuum-filled void within a solid rock medium. Propagation of both active-source seismic and muti-offset ground-penetrating radar waves is numerically modelled through this synthetic geometry. Migration of these collocated datasets sequentially allows for the creation of an improved velocity model compared to either method separately. Using this velocity model, migration of the GPR dataset correctly resolves the vertical extent of the void and improves the resolution of the tube floor’s geometry

    Israel-Hamas Conflict: Operational Considerations and Strategy

    The recent attack by Hamas demonstrates an unprecedented level of capability and sophistication from the extremist militia, coupled with a significant intelligence failure on Israel’s part. The IDF’s vulnerability can be attributed to an expanding threat landscape and the evolving counter-intelligence tactics used by their adversaries. The rise of Iran-backed forces in the region, along with the increasingly covert operations by Hamas and similar groups, challenges Israel’s intelligence capabilities. However, the pressing question now is not about the occurrence of the attack but how Israel should respond. Potential strategies for Israel to reestablish deterrence include maintaining direct control, transferring authority to the West Bank, or adopting a collaborative International-Arab governance model. Each option carries significant strategic implications. Direct Israeli control might strain its resources and lead to further conflicts. Handing authority to the West Bank Authorities could embolden extremist factions. On the other hand, a joint governance approach could upset regional power balances. Given these complexities, Israel might consider a two-pronged strategy: retaining limited territorial control in areas of Gaza adjacent to the Israeli border, while conducting special operations throughout the rest of the Gaza Strip to neutralize and eliminate high-value enemy facilities and individuals. This approach would address immediate security concerns and provide a window to develop a sustainable strategy that considers both national and international perspectives.https://digitalcommons.usf.edu/gnsi_publications/1001/thumbnail.jp

    On the Potential Therapeutic Roles of Taurine in Autism Spectrum Disorder

    Contemporary research has found that people with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) exhibit aberrant immunological function, with a shift toward increased cytokine production and unusual cell function. Microglia and astroglia were found to be significantly activated in immuno-cytochemical studies, and cytokine analysis revealed that the macrophage chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1), interleukin 6 (IL-6), tumor necrosis factor α (TNF-α), and transforming growth factor β-1 (TGFB-1), all generated in the neuroglia, constituted the most predominant cytokines in the brain. Taurine (2-aminoethanesulfonic acid) is a promising therapeutic molecule able to increase the activity of antioxidant enzymes and ATPase, which may be protective against aluminum-induced neurotoxicity. It can also stimulate neurogenesis, synaptogenesis, and reprogramming of proinflammatory M1 macrophage polarization by decreasing mitophagy (mitochondrial autophagy) and raising the expression of the markers of the anti-inflammatory and pro-healing M2 macrophages, such as macrophage mannose receptor (MMR, CD206) and interleukin 10 (IL-10), while lowering the expression of the M1 inflammatory factor genes. Taurine also induces autophagy, which is a mechanism that is impaired in microglia cells and is critically associated with the pathophysiology of ASD. We hypothesize here that taurine could reprogram the metabolism of M1 macrophages that are overstimulated in the nervous system of people suffering from ASD, thereby decreasing the neuroinflammatory process characterized by autophagy impairment (due to excessive microglia activation), neuronal death, and improving cognitive functions. Therefore, we suggest that taurine can serve as an important lead for the development of novel drugs for ASD treatment

    GNSI Decision Brief: Integrated Deterrence: What is it Good For?

    The Biden administration introduced the concept of Integrated Deterrence (ID) in its 2022 National Security Strategy (NSS). As the report, No I in Team, states, “Integrated deterrence seeks to integrate all tools of national power across domains, geography, and spectrum of conflict, while working with allies and partners.” The Department of Defense’s (DoD) National Defense Strategy (NDS) and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff’s National Military Strategy (NMS) further defined the military’s role in this concept. Critics have noted deficiencies with the whole-of- government approach that ID demands while failing to specify coordination methods across agencies. That same report notes, “what integrated deterrence entails in practical terms remains unclear... This ambiguity raises the risk that integrated deterrence may find itself dead on arrival.” Could this new initiative fail before ever getting off the ground? Another analyst declared, “Integrated Deterrence...is not a bad idea. In fact, it is a good one. But it’s not a strategy.” With these concerns in mind, this brief will explore what ID entails and assess its possible effectiveness.https://digitalcommons.usf.edu/gnsi_decision_briefs/1006/thumbnail.jp
