TAM-SenticNet : A Neuro-Symbolic AI approach for early depression detection via social media analysis
This paper introduces TAM-SenticNet, a Neuro-Symbolic AI framework uniquely designed for early depression detection through social media content analysis. Merging neural networks for feature extraction and sentiment analysis with advanced symbolic reasoning, TAM-SenticNet overcomes the limitations of traditional diagnostic tools, particularly in real-time responsiveness and interpretability. The symbolic reasoning, powered by SenticNet, provides a deep, structured understanding of emotional expressions, greatly enhancing model explainability and logical inference. Empirical evaluations reveal that TAM-SenticNet excels beyond existing models in performance metrics, achieving a Precision of 0.665, Recall of 0.881, and F1-score of 0.758, coupled with superior latency metrics, including ERDE5 and ERDE50 at 0.025, LatencyTP at 1.0, and Flatency at 0.675. These achievements highlight TAM-SenticNet’s cutting-edge approach to early depression detection, making it a pioneering tool in the application of AI for mental health informatics.journal articl
We examined the educational effects of practical training in food service management on students' competency levels using a competency questionnaire designed to evaluate educational achievements for registered dietitians. The training significantly enhanced common competencies required for registered dietitians such as “nutrition/food skills” and “nutrition management ability” compared to pre-training levels. The findings suggest that practical training in food service management is associated with an increase in the levels of common competencies that are required for registered dietitians such as students' nutrition and food skills and nutrition management ability.departmental bulletin pape
Against a background of lack of experience in interacting with multiple generations and professions, a decline in basic nursing skills, such as the communication skills of students in nursing practice, has become an issue. The College of Nursing faculty conducted a simulation exercise to strengthen students’ basic nursing skills for patient care prior to ward training for students. The simulation exercise was designed to improve the nursing skills of 125 sophomore nursing students in charge of patients for the first time in a fundamental nursing practicum. The content of the simulation exercise was based on the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare’s “Technical Matters Related to Nurse Education and Attainment at Graduation (2019)” and it incorporated the results of a student survey conducted in the previous year. The post-ward training questionnaire, which is a subjective evaluation, revealed that all respondents felt that the simulation training prepared them well for the practical training. The primary reason for this was its usefulness in practical training. We will continue to improve the content of this training to make it more practical.departmental bulletin pape
関節リウマチに対する治療経過中に発症した肝類洞閉塞症候群の1例
A female patient in her 60s who was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis has been treated with methotrexate for 12 years, and iguratimod for 7 years. She was referred to our department because of the liver injury and ascites. In laboratory data, PT-INR was 1.26( 63.2%), serum albumin was 1.9g/dL, M2BPGi was 4.97COI, indicating liver fibrosis and decreased hepatic synthesis ability. An abdominal ultrasonography(AUS) showed ascites, and liver stiffness value was 12.7 kPa using shear wave elastography, indicating F4 fibrosis in new Inuyama classification. Histopathological examination of liver biopsy showed A2 chronic active hepatitis and F2 - 3 fibrosis. In Azan staining, it showed luminal stenosis of central vein. Therefore, she was diagnosed with hepatic sinusoidal obstruction syndrome. We discontinued the administration of methotrexate and iguratimod, and then liver function was gradually improved. Hepatic sinusoidal obstruction syndrome is often associated with hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, chemotherapy drugs such as oxaliplatin, and radiation therapy. In our knowledge, this is the first report of the case with hepatic sinusoidal obstruction syndrome, which occurred during the course of rheumatoid arthritis treatment.journal articl
Radiochromic reactions in repetitive X-ray irradiations of a novel gel complex composed of polyvinyl alcohol, iodide, and silica nanoparticles (PAISiN)
Radiochromic materials have good potentials for the prompt on-site detection of accidental high-dose exposure. One of the drawbacks of using these materials on various occasions is that they cannot generally be reused after coloration. In the present study, a recently developed radiochromic complex composed of polyvinyl alcohol, iodide, and silica nanoparticles named “PAISiN,” was repeatedly annealed at 40 °C for 3 h and irradiated with X-rays (160 kV, 6.3 mA) at 8, 4 and 2 Gy(H2O) each up to a total dose of 24 Gy. RGB color images of the PAISiN samples were acquired with a flatbed scanner and analyzed using image processing software. As results, PAISiN showed reproducible responses in all fractionated dose levels. Additionally, it was confirmed that the PAISiN samples annealed after repetitive irradiation maintained a stable white color for 12 days at room temperature. From these findings, it is expected that PAISiN could be used repeatedly and effectively for personal monitoring of accidental high-dose exposure under normal indoor conditions.journal articl
Acanthopanax senticosus ameliorates steatohepatitis through HNF4 alpha pathway activation in mice
Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease is a common liver disease worldwide, and is associated with dysregulation of lipid metabolism, leading to inflammation and fibrosis. Acanthopanax senticosus Harms (ASH) is widely used in traditional medicine as an adaptogen food. We examined the effect of ASH on steatohepatitis using a high-fat diet mouse model. Mice were fed a choline-deficient, l-amino acid-defined, high-fat diet with ASH extract (ASHE). After 6 weeks, liver RNA transcriptome sequencing (RNA-Seq) was performed, followed by Ingenuity Pathway Analysis (IPA). Our findings revealed that mice fed a high-fat diet with 5% ASHE exhibited significantly reduced liver steatosis. These mice also demonstrated alleviated inflammation and reduced fibrosis in the liver. IPA of RNA-Seq indicated that hepatocyte nuclear factor 4 alpha (HNF4 alpha), a transcription factor, was the activated upstream regulator (P-value 0.00155, z score = 2.413) in the liver of ASHE-fed mice. Adenosine triphosphate binding cassette transporter 8 and carboxylesterase 2, downstream targets of HNF4 alpha pathway, were upregulated. Finally, ASHE-treated HepG2 cells exposed to palmitate exhibited significantly decreased lipid droplet contents. Our study provides that ASHE can activate HNF4 alpha pathway and promote fat secretion from hepatocytes, thereby serving as a prophylactic treatment for steatohepatitis in mice.journal articl
Comparison of Impressions of COVID-19 Vaccinations Stratified by the Number of Vaccinations Among Japanese Healthcare Professional University Students
Objective: Coronavirus infectious disease, that emerged in 2019 (COVID-19) has been a major public health issue not only in Japan, but also worldwide, and the implementation of a proper vaccination strategy has been important. To promote vaccination, the present study compared impressions of COVID-19 vaccinations stratified by the number of vaccinations among healthcare professional university students in Okayama, Japan, and suggests better vaccination strategies.
Method: A total of 212 Japanese healthcare professional university students were enrolled in this clinical qualitative study using the text mining method. A self-reported questionnaire, including questions such as “What do you think about COVID-19 vaccinations?” was performed. We also examined the number of vaccinations, sex, history of COVID-19 infection, and daily mask use.
Results: A total of 5,935 words were obtained and “Think” (169 times) was the most frequently used followed by “Inject” (108 times), “Inoculation” (97 times), “Vaccine” (83 times), “Corona” (66 times) and “Side effects” (49 times). Characteristic words were “Safety” in non-vaccinated subjects and “Side effects” and “Necessary” in vaccinated subjects. In addition, “Safety” in non-vaccinated men and “Frightening” in non-vaccinated women were characteristic and fundamental features.
Conclusion: Impressions of COVID-19 vaccinations stratified by the number of vaccinations differed among healthcare professional university students. The provision of appropriate information on safety to non-vaccinated subjects and side effects to vaccinated subjects appears to be necessary. In addition, sex-specific information may be required for non-vaccinated subjects.journal articl
Toxoplasmic encephalitis with high 201Tl uptake and retention mimicking malignant lymphoma in a patient with human immunodeficiency virus infection
Various opportunistic infections develop during immunodeficiency due to human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. The treatment options for malignant lymphoma (ML) and toxoplasmic encephalitis (TE) are completely different; therefore, their discrimination is critical. A 25-year-old female of foreign nationality had been experiencing headaches for several weeks and suddenly developed convulsions. Brain computed tomography revealed multiple intracranial lesions; therefore, the patient was referred to the neurosurgery department. Brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed multiple masses with surrounding edema, accompanied by enhanced contrast. The largest mass (2 cm) in the left occipital lobe exhibited ringed contrast enhancement. Her blood test results showed a CD4 count of 40/μL, positive HIV Ag/Ab, HIV-RNA level of 56×104 copies/mL, positive anti-Toxoplasma IgG (63 IU/mL), and negative anti-Toxoplasma IgM. 201Tl- single photon emission computed tomography (201Tl-SPECT) revealed abnormal accumulation only in the tumor in the left occipital lobe (early T/N ratio, 3.034; delayed T/N ratio, 2.738; retention index, 0.9), which was suspected to be a ML. Both tumors, with or without high accumulation of 201Tl, were subjected to craniotomy biopsy. Pathological examination revealed infiltration of small lymphocytes with a necrotic background. The patient was diagnosed with TE based on a positive result of a tissue polymerase chain reaction test for Toxoplasma gondii. Two weeks after sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim combination therapy, MRI imaging showed dramatic improvement in multiple brain tumors. This case is atypical because ML was ruled out despite high 201Tl-SPECT uptake and retention. Careful diagnosis through pathological examination and DNA testing is important.journal articl
Exploring Undergraduate Attitudes Toward Study Abroad : Insights From a Cross-Sectional Study
This cross-sectional study conducted in 2023 explores the attitudes of 94 undergraduate students in Vietnam toward studying abroad. The investigation focuses on the perceived importance of studying abroad, particularly in Japan, and the preferences guiding the selection of study abroad destinations. Utilizing a five-level Likert scale, the questionnaire measured participants' attitudes, revealing that 6.4% had undergone short-term study experiences in Japan, and 12.8% expressed plans for post-graduation study abroad. The results underscore participants' perceptions of the importance of study abroad for developing communication skills (Mean [M]=4.52) and cross-cultural competency (M=4.39), rather than prospect of higher income. Concerning preferred study abroad locations, participants favored areas with potential long-term job opportunities (M=4.09) and beautiful, clean environments (M=4.03). Factors such as part-time job availability, local festivals, and a low cost of living in suburban areas were also identified as significant. Notably, respondents believed that foreign degrees are popular in their home country (M=3.71), while not perceiving home country education as lacking choices (M=2.49). The participants prioritized financial support, cultural experiences, and practical assistance when choosing a study abroad institution. These findings provide insights into undergraduate attitudes toward studying abroad, emphasizing the need for tailored approaches to address the needs for studying abroad.journal articl
