    信仰に関わる文化的景観の領域化に関する研究 : 世界遺産「琉球王国のグスク及び関連遺産群」の構成資産「斎場御嶽」のゾーニングを手がかりに

    現在の諸処の開発を制御する計画においては、具体的な領域を設定することが不可欠となっているが、人々の信仰のような動的な要素に関わる文化的景観を保護する目的においては、地域の実情と計画との乖離が起こりやすいことが予想される。そこで、本研究では、信仰に関わる文化的景観の事例である世界遺産「斎場御嶽」を対象に、世界遺産申請時点の遺産及び緩衝地帯のゾーニングと、世界遺産登録後の各種計画で設定された遺産に関係する領域のゾーニングを照合することで、世界遺産としてのゾーニングの妥当性を検証し、これを基に信仰に関わる文化的景観を領域化する試みの課題を考察した。検証により以下の3点が確認された。一に、所有、利用、地形などの土地の状況や事前調査の不足などによって本質的な遺産の範囲を明確にできないままで登録が行われることが起こりうる。二に、緩衝地帯のゾーニングにおいて、信仰という人々の内面的な要素での線引きは難しく、その時点での住民の合意形成や既存の都市計画規制を基に緩衝地帯の境界が定められるが、その境界についての意識は登録後の追跡調査や地域の状況によって変化する。三に、緩衝地帯が「当該資産をどのように保護するのか」推薦書に明示が行われないままにゾーニングが設定される場合がある。以上の3点から、特に文化的景観としての広がりを考えると、斎場御嶽の世界遺産としてのゾーニングは遺産、緩衝地帯共に十分であったとは言い難い。しかし、国内の制度を用いて適切な保護の網を設定できるのであれば、世界遺産としての緩衝地帯の新たな設定のハードルは高いものではない。重要なのは、世界遺産登録時に設定されたゾーニングを権威的・固定的なものとはせず、国内の制度を活用した実質的な保護の網を柔軟に見直していくことである。In the current plans that control the development of each area, it is essential to establish specific zones. However, to preserve cultural landscapes associated with dynamic elements such as peopleʼs beliefs, it is anticipated that there may be discrepancies between the actual state of the area and the intended plan. Therefore, in this study, I examined the World Heritage site of Sefa Utaki as an example of a cultural landscape associated with religious beliefs. I analyzed the zoning regulations of the heritage area and buffer zone at the time the World Heritage application was submitted and compared them to the zoning regulations of the related areas established in different plans after the site was designated as a World Heritage site. Based on this, I analyzed the challenges of zoning cultural landscapes tied to religious beliefs. The verification process confirmed the following three points. First, it is possible that registration may occur without clarifying the scope of essential heritage sites due to local conditions or a lack of prior research. Second, in zoning the buffer zone, it is difficult to draw boundaries based on the intrinsic element of peopleʼs faith. The boundaries of the buffer zone are defined based on resident consensus and existing urban planning regulations at the time, but awareness of these boundaries may change following surveys and evolving local conditions after registration. Third, in some cases, the zoning of the buffer zone is established without clearly stating in the nomination document “how it will protect the heritage site.” Based on these three points, the zoning of Sefa Utaki as a World Heritage site is inadequate for both the heritage site and the buffer zone, particularly when considering its expansion as a cultural landscape. However, if an appropriate web of protection can be established using domestic institutions, the hurdle for creating a new buffer zone as a World Heritage site is not insurmountable. What is important is that the zoning established at the time of registration as a World Heritage site should not be regarded as authoritative and fixed.     医用画像AI開発支援ソフトウェアAidiaの一般公開に関する報告

    近年、畳み込みニューラルネットワークをはじめとした深層学習技術の実用化により、医用画像AI の研究開発が活発に行われている。また、画像AI開発ツールの開発と事業化も盛んに行われるようになり、画像AI開発の敷居は年々下がり続けている。しかし、既存の画像AI開発ツールは医用画像AIの開発を行うにあたって懸念すべき事項が多く、先端的な研究や十分にデータを収集できていない医用画像AI開発では、有料の画像AI開発ツールを使うことに抵抗があるケースも多い。したがって、無料で手軽に利用できる画像AI開発ツールの開発・公開が望まれている。この需要に応えるため、著者は医用画像AI開発支援ソフトウェアAidiaを開発し、ウェブページの開設およびAidiaの一般公開を行った。Aidiaはプログラミングなしで、画像のラベル付け、AIの学習、学習済みAIの定量評価を行うことができる。また、医用画像の標準規格であるDICOMに対応しており、ウィンドウ処理による明るさ・コントラストの調節も可能である。Aidiaは医用画像の先端的なAI研究開発に有用なAI開発ツールとして利活用が期待される。departmental bulletin pape

    令和5年度の徳島大学防災・BCMの取り組み

    令和5年度に実施した徳島大学の防災・BCM(Business Continuity Management、事業継続マネジメント)の取り組みについて整理を行った。令和4年度に学内21部局へ防災対策やその課題について個別ヒアリングを実施した後、令和5年度には主に、⑴安否確認メール、⑵受変電施設の浸水対策、⑶通信手段、⑷防災訓練等について具体的な対応策や解決策を検討し実行した。また、南海トラフ地震臨時情報が発表された際の対応を考えるワークショップ(以下「WS」と表記)を全学的に実施し、「休止する研究の判断基準の明確化」や「属人化しない仕事の仕組みづくり」といった点から、事業継続の判断基準を【巨大地震警戒】、【巨大地震注意】のレベルごとに具体的に設けておくといった対応案を抽出することができた。The disaster prevention and Business Continuity Management (BCM) initiatives implemented at Tokushima University in fiscal year 2023 are summarized herein. After conducting individual hearings with 21 departments within the university regarding disaster prevention measures and their challenges in fiscal year 2022, we focused in fiscal year 2023 on the following key areas: (1) safety confirmation emails, (2) flood prevention measures for substation facilities, (3) communication methods, and (4) disaster prevention training. We examined and executed specific countermeasures and solutions for these areas. In addition, a university-wide workshop (hereinafter referred to as “WS”) was held to consider how to respond when the Nankai Trough earthquake extra information is announced. The workshop was able to extract ideas for measures such as establishing specific decision criteria for business continuity at each level of Nankai Trough earthquake extra information (Megathrust earthquake attention / Megathrust earthquake alert), in terms of “clarifying the criteria for deciding which research to suspend” and “creating a work system that does not make work dependent on individuals”.departmental bulletin pape

    Sounds like gambling : detection of gambling venue visitation from sounds in gamblers’ environments using a transformer

    Objective digital measurement of gamblers visiting gambling venues is conducted using cashless cards and facial recognition systems, but these methods are confined within a single gambling venue. Hence, we propose an objective digital measurement method using a transformer, a state-of-the-art machine learning approach, to detect total gambling venue visitations for gamblers who visit multiple gambling venues using sounds in gamblers’ environments. We sampled gambling and nongambling event datasets from websites to create a gambling play classifier. We also sampled gambling and nongambling location datasets for a gambling location detector. Further, we sampled practical dataset with four different recording conditions and two different recording devices. Our Swin transformer model with 54 classes (4 gambling play classes and 50 nongambling event classes) achieved highest accuracy (0.801). The gambling location detector of the Swin transformer also achieved high performance; the areas under the receiver operating characteristic curves (AUCs) for bingo, mahjong, pachinko, and electronic gambling machine plays were 0.845, 0.780, 0.826, and 0.833, respectively. Moreover, gambling visitation detector of the Swin transformer showed high performance especially in Pachinko (AUCs 0.972–0.715) regardless of their recording conditions and devices.     Roles of perivascular adipose tissue in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis : an update on recent findings

    Lifestyle-related diseases, such as atherosclerosis and diabetes, are now considered to be a series of diseases caused by chronic inflammation. Adipose tissue is considered to be an endocrine organ that not only plays a role in lipid storage, heat production, and buffering, but also produces physiologically active substances and is involved in chronic inflammation. Perivascular adipose tissue (PVAT) surrounding blood vessels similarly produces inflammatory and anti-inflammatory physiologically active substances that act on blood vessels either directly or via the bloodstream. Epicardial adipose tissue (EAT), which is in direct contact with the coronary arteries inside the pericardium, is thought to have a direct effect on the coronary arteries as well. The presence and inflammatory status of these adipose tissues can be evaluated by imaging tests, and has been shown to be associated with the presence of current cardiovascular disease (CVD) and to be a prognostic factor. It is also expected to become a new diagnostic and therapeutic target for CVD.journal articl

    Method for isolation and quantification of inositol glycan produced by glycosylinositol phosphoceramide-hydrolyzing phospholipase D in plants

    Glycosylinositol phosphoceramide (GIPC) is the most abundant sphingolipids in plants. Previously, we found phospholipase D (PLD) activity that hydrolyzes GIPC to phytoceramide 1-phosphate (PCerP) in plants and revealed that GIPC-PLD activity is carried out by an enzyme encoded by non-specific phospholipase C3 (NPC3) gene. In this study, we established a method for isolation and quantification of inositol glycan (InoGly), a counterpart of PCerP produced from GIPC, using TLC imaging. We confirmed that A. thaliana NPC3 protein and partially purified GIPC-PLD from cabbage produced InoGly in a similar amount to that of PCerP from purified GIPC. We applied our method to determination of InoGly present in plant tissues and found that it was present at 40–80 nmol/g (wet wt.) in cabbage leaves, radish root and broccoli stem, and increased to 80–120 nmol/g after homogenization of the tissues. Similar increases in PCerP and decreases in GIPC were observed after homogenization, indicating that InoGly and PCerP were produced from GIPC by GIPC-PLD activity in response to homogenization. We believe our method, which does not require the complicated process or large device, will contribute to a better understanding of GIPC metabolism and signaling in plants.journal articl

    Pyrroloquinoline quinone (PQQ) is a redox cofactor identified from bacterial methanol dehydrogenase, and has been found in trace amounts in a variety of foods and in human tissues lacking PQQ biosynthesis. It has been reported that mice fed a PQQ-deficient diet develop deficiency symptoms such as growth retardation, skin fragility, and reduced reproductive capacity, suggesting that PQQ may be a vitamin. However, the enzyme that requires PQQ as a coenzyme in mammals has not been identified, and thus PQQ has not yet been certified as a vitamin.
