    Relations of understanding level for science and mathematics among first year students at an engineering college

    application/pdfIn this study, I report the result of a research on basic knowledge, concepts, and skills in four fields: mathematics, physics, chemistry, and biology, classifying by three categories: primary, junior, and high school levels. The research is conducted in the form of true-of-false questions. Compering results answered by the students participated, low percentage of correct answers in all fields is widely seen among the primary school level, and the ratio of correct answers decrease as going up to the next category questions. Each correlation between mathematics and physics, physics and chemistry, and mathematics and chemistry is high, while that between biology and other fields is low. Also, it is found that there are freshmen who are weak at handling symbolic expressions and the numerical values. I propose that teaching methodologies and learning models are more to be discussed based on this analysis in the next stage.departmental bulletin pape

    Development of a Self-efficacy Scale in Art

    application/pdfThe purpose of this study was to develop a scale designed to measure students' Self-Efficacy Scale in Art (SESA), and to examine the reliability and validity of that scale. In Surveys I and II, we conducted a questionnaire survey (including a scale of General Self-Efficacy Scale) targeting 520 students in two junior high schools and two senior high schools. Based on the results of the above, we conducted a factor analysis of 20 Self-efficacy measurement items using the factor analysis, which enabled us to derive the following four factors: "Creative ability ", "Effort-oriented", "Understanding of the theme" and “Interest”. We then developed a Self-Efficacy Scale in Art comprised total of 17 items. The results showed actual state of students' self-efficacy recognition toward art. The averages were significantly high in each factor loadings. And a positive correlation was observed between Surveys I and II about SESA. Positive correlation was observed with between SESA and General Self-Efficacy Scale. Additionally examinations of reliability by split-half method showed very high confidence coefficient. There was also a positive correlation in the concurrent validity study. Reliability was also obtained between SESA and school grades, and in the results of study with technical and non-technical students too.departmental bulletin pape

    Psychiatric ward culture: a review of the literature

    application/pdfThe purpose of this study was to examine Japanese research on psychiatric ward culture and determine its position in the recent history of psychiatric nursing, and to clarify problems with such research. We searched for papers published between 2010 and September 20, 2019 using “psychiatric department,” “ward culture,” and “ward climate” as keywords, and conducted a literature review. Having compared and examined the purpose, subjects, and methods of the nine papers identified, we found that many of them were based on interviews with nurses and investigated how ward culture and ward climate influenced their nursing care. Such research has therefore tended to focus on nurses, making it poorly balanced in terms of study method. We suggest that to understand ward culture, which combines numerous complex factors, further studies are needed using a broader range of subjects and methods.departmental bulletin pape

    application/pdfRondorfite with the ideal chemical composition of Ca8Mg(SiO4)4Cl2 was artificially synthesized by solid state reaction using CaCO3, MgO, SiO2 and CaCl2・2H2O as starting materials. Since CaCl2・2H2O is a low melting point material, we succeeded in synthesizing a high purity sample by modifying the nominal composition and considering the sintering conditions (temperature and time). Artificially iron doped and synthesized Rondorfite, Ca8(Mg1-xFex)(SiO4)4Cl2 was colored in pink after ultraviolet irradiation.     Polyurethane synthesis from a furan-containing bifunctional cyclic carbonate with a diamine

    application/pdfIn order to develop biomass-based polymeric materials, a furan-based bifunctional five-membered cyclic carbonates was reacted with 1,6-diaminohexane. The polyaddition reaction in DMSO catalyzed with 10 mol% 1,5,7-triazabicyclo[4.4.0]dec-5-ene afforded the corresponding polyurethane (PU) in a 72% yield. The structure was characterized by FT-IR and 1H NMR spectroscopic analyses. All signals in the 1H NMR spectrum was assigned to the protons of the PU obtained, and the molar ratio of primary hydroxy group to secondary one in the PU was estimated to 37 : 63. Temperatures of 5% weight loss and glass transition of PU was 237 and 11.7°C, respectively. The hydroxyl groups were further reacted with acetic anhydride to obtain the corresponding acetylated PU. A number-average molecular weight of the acetylated PU was 3460 estimated by gel permeation chromatography. The thermal properties of the acetylated PU were similar to those of the original PU.departmental bulletin pape
