Disaster Prevention Education for Expectant and Nursing Mothers after the Great East Japan Earthquake

    Get PDF
application/pdfThe purpose of this study was to grasp the status of readiness of facilities with disaster prevention manuals and the actual status of disaster prevention education for expectant and nursing mothers at childbearing facilities in Tohoku district after the Great East Japan Earthquake, as well as to examine how disaster prevention education should be conducted. We conducted a survey of head nurses at institutions in Tohoku district, after obtaining their consent, on the status of preparedness of institutions with disaster prevention manuals focused on the obstetrics department and the implementation status of disaster prevention education for expectant and nursing mothers in this district. The results revealed that 40% of the institutions had disaster prevention manuals dedicated to the obstetrics department, and that 80% of these manuals were prepared after the Great East Japan Earthquake. In 80% of the institutions where disaster prevention education for expectant and nursing mothers was provided, the training was provided multiple times, including during pregnancy and hospitalization. The instructions include carrying a maternal and child health handbook, encouraging breastfeeding, the locations of the evacuation sites, and clothing to be taken at the time of evacuation. For institutions with hospital disaster prevention manuals, but not dedicated to the obstetrics department, it is desirable for them to prepare and be equipped with a disaster prevention manual targeting the obstetrics department as soon as possible, and also provide disaster prevention education to expectant and nursing mothers. In addition, it is necessary to prepare a disaster prevention education brochure so that midwives and nurses who provide disaster prevention education to expectant and nursing mothers can provide the relevant instructions with confidence.departmental bulletin pape

Investigation and Analysis of the Naive Concepts in Natural Science Courses in the Department of Engineering

    Get PDF
application/pdfFrom a pedagogical point of view, “naive concept” is generally conceived as a misconception formed by erroneous understandings about scientific matters long accumulated from the early stages of education. Critical lacks in logical consistency are typically observed in students with naive concept, thus adversely hindering their acquisition of university-level expertise such as advanced engineering and applied science. This situation needs to be therefore ameliorated at the earliest stages of their careers. We here illustrate a practical case report as to naive concept in the Department of Applied Chemistry, Kanagawa Institute of Technology (KAIT), Kanagawa, Japan, paving the way for future educational developments.departmental bulletin pape

Change in self- awareness of leadership Before and After Certified Nurse Administrator Education (First Level)

    Get PDF
application/pdfThe purpose of the study was to clarify the changes in Self-awareness of leadership behavior before and after certified nurse administrator education (first level) was conducted. The subjects of the research were 90 students of A University Training Center in FY2020 and FY2021. The researchers translated the American Leadership Behavior Scale into Japanese and Translated and independently developed for the research method. The Rickert method in five stages was used as the evaluation standard. The participants evaluated themselves. Data analysis was performed by tabulation and t-test using statistical analysis software. The research was conducted with the approval of the A University Ethics Review Board. The result analysis showed a significant increase in the leadership behavior evaluation items. Significant differences were observed in 24 out of 30 items (80%) in 2020, and significant differences were observed in 29 out of 30 items (97%) in 2021. In particular, “challenging the process” increased from the pre-training average of 2.85 to 4.0 (1.15 increase) in FY2020 and from 2.94 to 3.7 (0.76 increase) in FY2021. For “recognize common goals,” the average value before training increased from 2.7 to 3.64 (up 0.94) in FY2020, and the average value was 2.85 to 3.5 (up 0.65) in FY2021. This suggests that first-level training effectively improves trainees' leadership behavior. I would like to consider evaluation by others in the future.departmental bulletin pape

Introduction to Homecoming Day held for 2022 Nursing Department graduates and its challenges

    Get PDF
application/pdfWe discussed the introduction and assignments for Homecoming Day held for 2022 Nursing Department graduates. Homecoming Day is the first attempt at the school's opening. The purpose of holding Homecoming Day is (1) to provide a time to refresh, and (2) to provide a place for interaction with alumni and faculty. The event was attended by 30 alumni and 7 faculty members. Participants' satisfaction with Homecoming Day was high. It was suggested that Homecoming Day is extremely important as a system to support graduates both at educational institutions and at job opportunities.departmental bulletin pape

Long-term forecasting of ambulance callouts in Aikawa town

    Get PDF
application/pdfIn many Japanese cities, the number of ambulance callouts is increasing while the population is decreasing. In order to properly organize ambulances, ambulance crews, and materials, it is necessary to forecast the number of callouts with high accuracy. In this study, we forecast the number of callouts until 2040 in Aikawa town, which currently has about 2400 callouts. We create reference, high and low scenarios that take into account historical trends and the reduction in ambulance callouts due to COVID-19. As a result, the number of ambulance callouts in 2040 is forecasted to be about 2800 in the reference scenario, 2900 in the high scenario, and 2600 in the low scenario. In addition, the number of callouts will increase rapidly until 2030 due to the aging of the population, but it will gradually converge by 2040 due to the decline in the total population.departmental bulletin pape

Molecular docking approaches in chaperonin-ligand binding

    Get PDF
application/pdfThe Escherichia coli chaperonin GroEL is a virtually cylindrical protein complex composed of two heptameric rings with a 4.5 nm cavity in the center that plays an important role in assisting intracellular protein folding in conjunction with GroES and ATP. We are exploring the utility of this unique structural property of chaperonins as capsules that encapsulate a variety of compounds, including drugs, and facilitate their transport into intracellular organelles. In the area of molecular research and drug discovery, docking simulations that predict protein-ligand binding interactions have recently become of significant value. This computational approach plays a critical role in speeding up the identification of potential drug candidates and improving our understanding of the fundamental interactions between proteins and small molecules. It stands out as the preferred method for in silico evaluation of protein-ligand binding dynamics because it allows binding predictions that are often not feasible in real experiments. We employed this method, which can predict binding interactions that cannot be determined by experimental methods alone, for in silico evaluation of proteinligand binding dynamics to infer the potential of chaperonins as carriers in drug delivery systems (DDS).departmental bulletin pape
