Mot en ekologiskt hållbar turism? : En policyanalys över miljöintegrering i Norrbottens besöksnäringsstrategi
Denna studie undersöker hur konceptet ekologisk hållbarhet integreras i politiska besöksnäringsstrategier och hur strategierna behandlar farhågor kring ohållbar turism. Studien tar avstamp i tidigare forskning om hållbar turism som pekar på betydelsen att prioritera sociala och ekologiska aspekter vid potentiell negativ påverkan ifrån turismen. Att studera i vilken utsträckning integreringen av ekologisk hållbarhet sker är relevant utifrån möjligheten att lokalsamhället och miljön skadas genom en ohållbar turism. Studiens fokusområde är den norrbottniska turismen som samtidigt är Sveriges snabbaste ökande turismområde. Avsaknaden av en nationell besöksnäringsstrategi innebär även att det vilar på andra politiska nivåer att utforma ramverk för hur den ekologiska hållbarheten integreras. I uppsatsen analyseras därmed Norrbottens besöksnäringsstrategi genom en kvalitativ textanalys. För att indikera hur värdena om ekologisk hållbarhet integreras tillämpas Environmental Policy Integration (EPI). EPI anpassas som ett analytiskt verktyg för att dels synliggöra ekologisk prioritering (svag eller stark EPI), dels belysa prioriteringen av andra målsättningar (sociala och ekonomiska). Resultatet visar att Norrbottens besöksnäringsstrategi genomgående integrerar en hållbar turism i sin besöksnäringsstrategi. Dock är miljöintegreringen att betrakta som svag, då den ekologiska aspekten inte ges principiell prioritering
Harmonic Horizons : An exploration of Hristo Vitchev’s Harmonic Geometry concepts through practice and composition.
This practice-based artistic research explores the integration of several chord voicing concepts drawn from Hristo Vitchev’s publications into my personal harmonic vocabulary as a guitarist and composer. Approaching this process from the perspective of a predominantly rock guitarist, the research investigates how engaging with these unfamiliar voicings influences my compositional instincts, harmonic language, and evolving musical identity. The project is divided across two parts utilising both deliberate and exploratory practice methods. The first part focuses on the technical practice of the material, with the creation of etudes and exercises designed to investigate the potential of these concepts and assimilate the material through manual engagement and reflection. The second part moves to explore the creative application of the material through composition, where the assimilation of Vitchev’s voicings aided in the production of new works without predefined stylistic boundaries, resulting in compositions that organically lean towards a fusion aesthetic. The findings are presented through annotated scores, audio/video recordings, and critical analysis, highlighting how practicing foreign harmonic concepts can ultimately serve as a catalyst for creativity.
Building trust from internal use to ecosystem platform : How platform leaders shape growth and engagement
Purpose - This study explores how platform leaders can build and sustain trust to enablethe evolution of digital B2B platforms in fragmented and low-tech industries. It focuses onthe specific challenges of engaging small, resource-constrained firms and supporting theirlong-term participation. Method - The study is based on a single-case study of a Swedish company operating in theconstruction industry. Data was collected and validated through 21 interviews and analyzedusing a thematic coding approach. Findings - The findings highlight several trust-building mechanisms across the platform’sevolution, including early value communication, user support, transparency, monitoringand relationship shaping. The study shows how trust must be continuously adapted as theplatform expands from internal use to broader ecosystem coordination. Theoretical contribution - The study contributes to platform literature by showinghow trust-building mechanisms evolve over time in low-tech, fragmented settings. Itcomplements prior work by highlighting the role of relational, behavioral and signalingstrategies from the platform leader’s perspective. Practical implications - Platform leaders targeting fragmented industries can use theseinsights to design onboarding, governance and engagement strategies that build credibilityamong hesitant users. The results also suggest how to structure incentives, manage visibilityand guide user behavior to support adoption and co-creation. Limitations of the study - This research is limited to a single case in a specific national andindustry context. Results may not be generalizable to all platforms or sectors. Future researchcould expand to other fragmented industries, international settings or complementaryquantitative methods
Systematiskt arbetsmiljöarbete utifrån medarbetares perspektiv
I den här rapporten har jag undersökt hur Sweco och Peab jobbar med deras systematiska arbetsmiljöarbete utifrån intervjuer med anställda på företagen. Målet har varit att se hur deras arbete ser ut och hur det upplevs av medarbetare både på kontor och på byggarbetsplatser. Jag har intervjuat både arbetsmiljöspecialister och anställda för att få en inblick i hur dom arbetar med och upplever det systematiska arbetsmiljöarbetet. Både Sweco och Peab har tydliga arbetssätt för arbetsmiljön där dom gör skyddsronder, riskbedömningar och olika typer av uppföljning. På Sweco arbetar man bland annat med arbetsmiljöombud och använder ett system för att rapportera risker och tillbud. Däremot visar en intervju med en anställd att alla inte känner till det systematiska arbetsmiljöarbetet, vilket tyder på att informationen om det inte alltid når fram. Peab har också ett tydligt sätt att arbeta med arbetsmiljön. Dom fokuserar mycket på säkerhet, likabehandling och att alla ska ha samma möjligheter. En anställd som intervjuats upplever att deras synpunkter tas på allvar men att det ibland hade kunnat vara mer tid för uppföljning och utbildning. Sammanfattningsvis så visar rapporten att båda företagen tar arbetsmiljön på stort allvar. Det finns fortfarande saker att jobba på, speciellt när det kommer till att göra alla medarbetare mer engagerade och informerade inom arbetsmiljöarbetet. Genom att skapa mer engagemang kan både trivseln och säkerheten på jobbet bli ännu bättre
Synkroniserad skalning i multiprojektmiljöer : Att navigera hinder och utvecklingspraxis för framgång i en multiprojektmiljö
Purpose: This study examines how organizational and technological barriers affect synchronous scaling in multi-project environments and identifies development practices that foster MPE success. We address two questions: (1) What technological and organizational barriers affect synchronous scaling of MPEs? (2) How can firms use development practices to mitigate technological and organizational barriers during synchronous scaling to achieve MPE success? Method: To answer the research questions a qualitative approach was used where a thematic analysis was conducted to analyze the collected data. The data came from 13 interviews where the respondents were from a Swedish manufacturing company where they had experience of synchronous scaling within MPEs. Findings: The analysis resulted in 10 barriers within three different areas: Inefficient resource prioritization, Unclear onboarding processes and System integration gaps. Six enabling development practices were identified in two areas to address these: Building scalable organizational capabilities and Facilitating cross-functional collaboration. Theoretical contribution: This study adds to the literature of MPE and synchronous scaling by identifying an intersection between the two subjects. It also proposes a definition and ways of measuring MPE success, while introducing a framework for barriers, development practices, and outcomes. Practical implications: The study identifies key scaling barriers and offers a framework to help managers map pain points and apply targeted development practices. It highlights the importance of treating development work as a long-term investment. Limitations of the study: This study examined a single organisation’s multi-project environment, so the results may not apply to other settings. Data were collected qualitatively at one point in time, which limits generalisability and understanding of changes over time. Future research should test these findings in different industries and use quantitative methods.Syfte: Denna studie undersöker hur organisatoriska och teknologiska hinder påverkar synkroniserad skalning i multiprojektmiljöer samt identifierar utvecklingspraxis som främjar framgång i MPE (multiprojektmiljöer). Vi adresserar två frågor: (1) Vilka teknologiska och organisatoriska hinder påverkar synkroniserad skalning av MPE:er? (2) Hur kan företag använda utvecklingspraxis för att mildra teknologiska och organisatoriska hinder under synkroniserad skalning för att uppnå framgång i MPE? Metod: För att besvara forskningsfrågorna användes en kvalitativ ansats där en tematisk analys genomfördes för att analysera insamlad data. Datan samlades in genom 13 intervjuer med respondenter från ett svenskt tillverkningsföretag där de hade erfarenhet av synkroniserad skalning inom MPE. Resultat: Analysen resulterade i 10 hinder inom tre olika områden: Ineffektiv resursprioritering, Otydliga onboardingprocesser och Brister i systemintegration. Sex möjliggörande utvecklingspraxis identifierades inom två områden för att hantera dessa: Bygga skalbara organisatoriska förmågor och Underlätta tvärfunktionellt samarbete. Teoretiskt bidrag: Denna studie bidrar till litteraturen om MPE och synkroniserad skalning genom att identifiera en skärningspunkt mellan de två ämnena. Den föreslår även en definition och sätt att mäta framgång i MPE, samt introducerar ett ramverk för hinder, utvecklingspraxis och utfall. Praktiska implikationer: Studien identifierar centrala skalningshinder och erbjuder ett ramverk som hjälper chefer att kartlägga problemområden och tillämpa riktade utvecklingspraxis. Den understryker vikten av att behandla utvecklingsarbete som en långsiktig investering. Studiens begränsningar: Denna studie undersökte en enda organisations multiprojektmiljö, vilket innebär att resultaten kanske inte är tillämpliga i andra sammanhang. Datan samlades in kvalitativt vid ett tillfälle, vilket begränsar generaliserbarheten och förståelsen för förändringar över tid. Framtida forskning bör testa dessa resultat i olika branscher och använda kvantitativa metoder
COPE - The Link Between Empowerment and Improved Mental Health Among Youth aged 10-18
Background: An increasing number of children and adolescents report symptoms of mental illness. It is also the younger demographic that shows the poorest mental well-being and a significant rise in stress levels. The background describes the definitions of health, health promotion, and mental health in relation to cognitive behavioral therapy, empowerment, and COPE (Creating Opportunities for Personal Empowerment). Aim: The aim was to investigate whether increased empowerment (COPE) among adolescents aged 10–18 can contribute to improved mental health within this target group. Method: A literature review based on quantitative research, in which we analysed eight scientific articles that met the criteria developed using the PICO framework. The articles were sourced from the databases Pubmed, Cinahl, Scopus and Medline, and were analyzed using six analytical questions. The analysis was presented in a summarizing results table. Results: The results were presented under the main category: Factors for Mental Health, with the following subcategories: Quality of Life, Stress Management, Self-Perception, Healthy Lifestyle, and Feasibility. The findings indicate a correlation between increased empowerment and improved mental health. Discussion: The literature review is discussed in terms of both results and methodology. In the results discussion, the findings are explored through the subcategories: Quality of Life, Stress Management, Self-Perception, Healthy Lifestyle, and Feasibility. In the methodology discussion, strengths and limitations of the approach and transferability are examined, along with considerations for further development of the work.
Poisoning mechanism of Ti0.8Zr0.2Cr0.75Mn1.25Ce0.01 hydrogen storage alloy by trace H2S, CO, and CH4
TiMn2-based alloys hold significant application potential due to their moderate hydrogen storage operating conditions and exceptional volumetric hydrogen storage density. Industrial by-product hydrogen, which is widely available and relatively cheap, often contains components such as H2S, CO, and CH4, whose poisoning mechanism on TiMn2-based alloys in the process of hydrogen absorption and desorption remains to be elucidated. In this work, the poisoning mechanisms of H2S, CO, and CH4 on Ti0.8Zr0.2Cr0.75Mn1.25Ce0.01 hydrogen storage alloy were investigated by isothermal adsorption curve, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and scanning electron microscope-energy dispersive spectroscopy (SEM-EDS). The results showed that the toxicity of impurity gases on the alloy is CO > H2S > CH4, and the regeneration difficulty was H2S > CO > CH4. The hydrogen absorption of the Ti0.8Zr0.2Cr0.75Mn1.25Ce0.01 alloy was restored to 58.59% after five groups of H2S poisoning-regeneration cycles. The hydrogen storage capacity retention rate decreased to 4.03% after five groups of CO poisoning, but the alloy recovered to 96.62% of the hydrogen absorption capacity after regeneration with pure hydrogen. The retention rate of the alloy was 100% after 100 cycles of CH4 poisoning. According to the results of XPS analysis, two metal sulfides (TiS and ZrS2) and one metal sulfate Zr(SO4)2 were formed after the Ti0.8Zr0.2Cr0.75Mn1.25Ce0.01 alloy was poisoned by H2S. Therefore, H2S poisoning belongs to irreversible adsorption and CO belongs to reversible adsorption. Comparison of cycle times for manual and semi-autonomous load haul dump (LHD) machines: An operational perspective at LKAB’s Kiirunavaara Mine
Automation of LHDs and their increasing use in mines make it critical to understand their performance in actual mining environments. Cycle times of semi-autonomous and manual LHDs were compared to determine their productivity differences. Manual LHDs had shorter cycle times in 57% of the areas, while the semi-autonomous were faster in 43% of the areas. Cycle time distributions were evaluated, and a log-logistic distribution was proposed to simulate the total cycle time, a lognormal distribution to simulate the loading duration, a logistic distribution to simulate the dumping duration, and a small extreme-value distribution to simulate the speed of semi-autonomous LHDs.Funder: SUM (Sustainable Underground Mining);Fulltext license: CC BY</p
Digital twins for asset management: case study of snow galleries in Northern Sweden
The use of digital twin (DT) technology within the engineering and construction (E&C) industry is valuable for practical applications in asset management of structures. Functional DT in E&C, however, are still in initial stages of development. Efforts towards standardization of concepts and procedures are necessary to build on existing knowledge and drive progress further on functional DT. This paper proposes a DT of a snow gallery, part of the Iron Ore railway in northern Sweden. The gallery was instrumented with a structural health monitoring (SHM) system that feeds data in real time to the DT, which also includes a 3D model of the gallery. The proposed methodology can be replicated to different structures and scaled for larger amounts of data. The SHM data and the 3D digital model of the snow gallery are connected in a single, integrated platform that enables improved decision-making for maintenance of the gallery. To promote clarity and progress within the field, the proposed DT’s maturity level is classified in terms of autonomy, intelligence, learning, and fidelity. Educational encounters with a local past-historical empathy in the archives
This single-case study focuses on 91 Swedish upper secondary students’ educational encounters with a local historical archive via a place-based educational intervention. Furthermore, it investigates how this event stimulated the students’ historical empathy through their meetings with historical sources at the local archive. Focus group interviews with participating students before and after the visits revealed changes in their expressions of historical empathy. The students’ expressions of historical contextualisation and perspective taking were challenged after the visit. Many students did not view the local past they encountered at the archive as actual history. Most students related the traditional Western, European, and nation-state-centred history they had met through their previous history education to their historical perspective. However, the affective connection to local history primarily increased after the visit, which helped promote a full manifestation of historical empathy among the students. Before the visits, the affective connection had not been visual among the students at all, which shows that local historical archives, as cultural heritage institutions, can help students connect empathically with the past.
