Planificaciò de serveis utilitzant "gang scheduling"

    No full text
[EN] This project focuses on the study and development of scheduling mechanisms in Kubernetes that ensure the coordinated deployment of multiple containers, considering both initial creation and progressive service updates. The problem is modeled as a case of vector Bin Packing with heterogeneous containers, accurately capturing the challenges of resource allocation in clusters with varying capacities. The proposed solution is based on the design and implementation of two scheduling heuristics that are integrated via two complementary approaches: a webhook, which intercepts scheduler requests, and an external API, which allows validating whether a deployment can be accepted under specific constraints. Multiple implementation alternatives are explored, assessing their benefits, limitations, and complexity.Sánchez Lorente, J. (2025). [EN] This Final Degree Project examines how to set up a restaurant in Marbella, a high-demand tourist destination where gastronomy plays a key role. The project brings together what has been learned in Business Administration and Management (ADE) and Tourism to answer several questions: Is it viable to open it? How should it be organized? And how should it be promoted? First, it explains the type of restaurant proposed and the tourism context of Marbella: how visitor numbers have evolved, what profiles they have, and what they look for when eating out. It also reviews competitors and the role of industry associations and organizations (such as Horeca Andalucía), in addition to the legal and health regulations that must be complied with. Next, the project analyzes feasibility: choice of premises, suppliers, initial investment, and financing options. It describes the day-to-day operations of the business (kitchen and service processes, capacity, layout, purchasing, and waste control) and clarifies the legal form, the necessary procedures, and labor and tax obligations. It also defines the staffing plan. At the management level, it analyzes the external environment and the company itself to decide which strategies to follow and sets out an action plan. In marketing, it specifies the target audience, tourist segmentation, the product offering, prices, communication, and sales channels, with both digital and in-person actions and collaborations with local tourism stakeholders. Finally, it presents projections of results in the short, medium, and long term, simple indicators to track progress, risks and contingency plans, the impact on local tourism, and future improvements. The information is based mainly on official sources, industry benchmarks, and direct observation, without using surveys.López Sánchez, C. (2025). Compact segmented meta-liners for enhanced acoustic absorption with grazing flow

    No full text
[EN] This work demonstrates the inherent limitations of conventional acoustic liners in achieving efficient low-frequency absorption in one-dimensional transmission problems with grazing flow. We show that absorption bounds generally exist when the acoustic treatment is modeled by a uniform impedance. Additionally, flow-induced non-reciprocity makes the design of absorbers more challenging for incident waves propagating with the flow compared to those propagating against the flow. To address these challenges, we propose a segmented meta-liner and a corresponding design methodology. The meta-liner consists of perforated faceplates backed with Helmholtz resonators, which incorporate embedded tilted necks. Wiremesh is placed at the neck openings to introduce additional acoustic losses. Our design methodology combines a numerical model with experimental impedance data. This method avoids errors introduced by theoretical or empirical impedance models and simplifies geometric design for practical implementation, thereby providing robust solutions for sound absorption under grazing flow. Experimental results confirm the deep subwavelength absorption of 3D-printed samples. All designs surpass the absorption limits of uniform impedance boundaries, a common assumption in conventional liner design. Furthermore, experimental results indicate that these designs exhibit robust absorption across low flow Mach numbers between 0 and 0.2.The authors acknowledge the financial support of the Safran Group and the Agence Nationale de la Recherche (France) through the Industrial Chair ASTRAL (grant ANR-20-CHIN-00050-01).Yang Meng;T. SELD binari multietiqueta per a fonts superposades: disseny i anàlisi de classes estacionàries i mòbils

    No full text
[EN] We study sound source localization for overlapping sources in reverberant rooms using an ACCDOA-based SELDNet with a binary multi-label activity head [stationary, head]. The application focuses on distinguishing between broadcast speech or music, which are typically stationary, and human speech, which is typically moving, while estimating the direction of arrival (DOA) for each class. A custom dataset was generated by convolving audio with simulated room impulse responses. All experiments were performed in simulation. Evaluation used 1-second segments, wherein the SELD score displayed DOA and sound activity performance, and the classifier was assessed using the standard metrics. Results show that the model tracks the moving source but struggles to detect inactivity, exhibiting leakage in the stationary DOA. The classifier yields reliable predictions for the moving class, whereas the stationary class has low precision. Analyses with clarity indices and the direct-to-early ratio (DER) indicate sensitivity to strong early reflections, which can blur spatial cues and induce coupling between class outputs. In the DNN context, coupling is consistent with both heads sharing the exact representation and lacking an explicit process to keep them separated. We conclude that performance is limited by weak class separability in overlapping, reverberant acoustically related signals. Future work is highly recommended.Hernández, DT. (2025). Physics-Informed Neural Networks (PINNs) for solving the forward and inverse problems of prostate biomechanics

    No full text
[EN] This work introduces a novel integration of Physics-Informed Neural Networks (PINNs) with hyperelastic material modeling, employing the Neo-Hookean model to estimate the stiffness of soft tissue organs based on realistic anatomical geometries. Specifically, we propose the modeling of the prostate biomechanics as an initial application of this framework. By combining machine learning with principles of continuum mechanics, the methodology leverages finite element method (FEM) simulations and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-derived prostate models to address forward and inverse biomechanical problems. The PINN framework demonstrates the ability to provide accurate material property estimations, requiring limited data while overcoming challenges in data scarcity. This approach marks a significant advancement in patient-specific precision medicine, enabling improved diagnostics, personalized treatment planning, and broader applications in the biomechanical characterization of other soft tissues and organ systems. This study was funded by the grant CIAICO/2021/226 from GVA and by the grant PID2023-150762OB/PID2023-001625 by MICIU/AEI/10.13039/501100011033 and by ERDF/EU.Ferrón-Vivó, María;Nadal, Enrique;Navarro-Jiménez, José-Manuel;Gregori Verdú, Santiago;Rupérez Moreno, María José (2026). No full text
[EN] The present Final Degree Project focuses on the design and prototyping of a low-cost device for Acoustic Energy Harvesting. The system consists of a conical cavity Helmholtz resonator tuned to 200 Hz and circular unimorph piezoelectric ceramics. The prototype is developed using lowcost and easily acquirable materials and components, making it reproducible without highly specialized equipment. The device is intended for future integration into acoustic barriers in road traffic environments. In this way, the aim is to contribute to the development of self-sufficient "Smart roads" which acquire the energy to power low-power devices through the acoustic energy available in the environment itself. This aims to drive the development of a sustainable alternative that takes advantage of an underexploited renewable energy source, contributing to the development of environmentally friendly solutions. [EN] This proposal involves an intervention on a plot located in the historic Valencian neighbourhood of Velluters, a place rich in heritage and cultural significance. The project envisions the creation of a civic space aimed at fostering social cohesion and providing an accessible venue for the development of local activities and community interests. Given the richness of the immediate surroundings flanked by the Escuelas Pías, the Balmes Palace, and the Convent of the Encarnación the design proposes an architecture that engages in dialogue with its context, reinforcing urban memory and establishing both a visual and symbolic relationship between the building and the historic fabric that envelops it. The project is arranged within a single four-storey volume, whose main feature is the interplay between interior and exterior circulation, generating a spatial experience that is both rich and dynamic. Vertical access is resolved via a principal staircase that structures the building s internal circulation. In parallel, an external route is introduced in the form of an auxiliary structure attached to the main volume. This not only integrates into the architectural composition, but also creates movement along the façade. This external route guides users through a series of outdoor courtyards, conceived as intermediate spaces for both social and environmental interaction, strengthening the link between interior and exterior. Regarding the functional layout, the ground floor houses the most publicly accessible areas. It includes a multi-purpose auditorium equipped for performances and community events, accompanied by a lobby that also functions as a small exhibition space, enhancing the user experience during circulation or waiting. The upper levels accommodate mixed-use and educational spaces. The first floor features a café with both interior and exterior access, as well as administrative and office areas. The two top floors are dedicated to more specific community uses, such as multi-purpose classrooms and workshops that can adapt to different group sizes and activities. A small children s playroom is also included, along with a library located at the highest level, benefiting from abundant natural light and providing a calm, focused environment. All of these spaces are connected, to varying degrees, with green elements that form an essential part of the architectural proposal. These appear both as vertical gardens on the façades and in the form of interior patios, which act as green lungs and key compositional features of the project.Torrecillas Jara, AM. (2025). [EN] With the undergrounding of the railway tracks in Durango, 60,000 m² in the city centre have been freed up and are currently unused. This former railway corridor had divided the city in two, hindering connectivity between different areas and social cohesion. The revitalisation of the old railway tracks offers a unique opportunity to transform underused urban land into vibrant hubs for health and community activity, fostering sustainability, social inclusion, and local economic development.Illarramendi Uribezubia, MH. Knowledge-building in EMI STEM lectures: A constellation and sequencing analysis

    No full text
[EN] This study examines how a lecturer in an online English-medium instruction (EMI) setting navigates the complexity of presenting the MATLAB programming environment to undergraduate aeronautical engineering students. While much EMI research focuses on linguistic challenges, this paper turns attention to the structuring of disciplinary knowledge in teacher discourse. Drawing on Legitimation Code Theory (LCT), the analysis uses two complementary tools: constellations and sequencing. Constellation analysis shows how sets of ideas, practices, or stances are selected from a broader semantic field and arranged into a particular pattern. The sequencing tool examines how short passages of discourse are combined into longer, cumulative sequences that enable knowledge-building. Together, these tools are used to show how the lecturer organises and layers complex meanings relating to the MATLAB environment across extended discourse. The analysis indicates that the lecturer adopts an aggregating strategy, clustering related ideas around key terms or categories rather than linking them through linear assembling sequences. This approach is enacted through sequencing moves, most notably cumulative sequencing, which condenses and integrates dispersed meanings into progressively stronger knowledge, in contrast to segmental sequencing, which partitions ideas without cumulative integration. The paper highlights how sequencing choices shape the pedagogic trajectory through a constellation of meanings, and how these strategies contribute to making complex disciplinary knowledge more accessible to students in EMI settings.Open access funding was provided by the Universitat Politecnica de Valencia (UPV) through the agreement between Elsevier and the CRUE Spanish Universities-CSIC Alliance.Nashaat-Sobhy, Nashwa;Morton, T.
