Predictors of Anxiety and Depression in Patients with Chronic Viral Hepatitis in Kazakhstan
Aim: Anxiety and depressive disorders are commonly reported comorbidities in patients with chronic viral hepatitis. The burden of living with a chronic illness like hepatitis can significantly impact a person’s mental health. The aim of the study is to explore several key aspects related to anxiety and depression in patients with chronic viral hepatitis in Kazakhstan. Subjects and Methods: A prospective cohort study was conducted involving 233 patients with chronic viral hepatitis. Socio-demographic data were collected, a comprehensive clinical examination was conducted, including assessment of complaints, clinical parameters, and anamnesis data. Laboratory methods were employed, and the severity of anxiety and depressive symptoms was measured using the Hospital anxiety and depression scale (HADS). Results: The analysis of the total scores from HADS in patients with chronic viral hepatitis revealed that 32.6 % of patients had subclinical expressed anxiety or depression, while 5.8 % exhibited clinically significant levels of anxiety or depression. The study identified several significant predictors of anxiety and depressive disorders in patients with chronic viral hepatitis are age (p < 0.000), sex (p < 0.015), duration of disease (p < 0.002), aetiology of chronic viral hepatitis (p < 0.030). Conclusion: Integrating the identified predictors into clinical practice allows healthcare providers to improve the early detection and diagnosis of anxiety and depression in patients with chronic viral hepatitis. This proactive approach not only enhances mental health outcomes but also supports overall disease management and patient well-being

Poziv na šumare hrvatske i slavonske!
Pozivaju se time uljudno sva p. n. gospoda šumari horvatske i slavonske zemlje na skupštinu, koja će biti na 26. prosinca (Dec.) ove godine u varmedji križevačkoj na Prečecu, da se ustanovi družtvo šumarsko kao podružnica družtva gospodarskoga horvatsko-slavonskoga. Sednica počima u 9 urah prie podne.
Ovo je poziv objavljen u dva broja Novina hrvatsko-slavonsko-dalmatinskih (današnje Narodne novine) br. 99 od 12. prosinca 1846. i br. 100 od 16. prosinca 1846. na osnivačku skupštinu Družtva gospodarskoga horv.-slav. odsěka za šumarstvo što se smatra početkom rada današnjega Hrvatskog šumarskog društva. Na Štefanje 26. prosinca 1846. u biskupskom dobru Prečec, mjestu između Dugog Sela i Ivanić Grada, okupili su se šumari kojima dugujemo tako dugo postojanje Društva:
Na učinjeni u tu sverhu javni poziv izkupilo se je u perkos najnepriatnioj dobi godišta, zločestom vremenu i mestnim povodnjam, ipak 17 šumarah u gradu Prečecu.
Time je započeo 180 godina dug put trećega najstarijeg šumarskog društva u Europi, poslije njemačkog i švicarskog društva, koje danas ima više od 2 800 članova. Dok je Društvo opstajalo mijenjali su se državni okviri (šest država) i njezini nazivi (10 naziva država) u kojima je djelovalo, a i samo Društvo mijenjalo je svoje nazive 13 puta.
Tijekom 180 godina djelovanja na čelu Društva su najprije zaslužnici koji su razvijali hrvatsko šumarstvo, a potom i osnovali Hrvatsko-slavonsko šumarsko društvo 1876. godine. Slijedili su ih plemenitaši, šumovlasnici, veleposjednici, šumarski dužnosnici na raznim razinama državne vlasti, a ponekad i smjerni činovnici. Najčešće su za predsjednika Društva birani ugledni sveučilišni profesori Šumarskog fakulteta i uvaženi šumari praktičari. Danas društvo vodi 41. predsjednik, ugledni znanstvenik akademik Igor Anić. U operativnom smislu Društvom su upravljali tajnici, njih 44 do sada, također ljudi iz struke vrlo širokog profila, od činovnika do vrhunskih znanstvenika. U jubilarnu godinu društvo uvodi tajnik Oliver Vlainić, ugledni šumar praktičar, također i bivši predsjednik Društva u dva mandata.
Od samog nastanka Društvo se svojim djelovanjem nastojalo izboriti za probitak šumarstva i predlagalo donositeljima političkih odluka ono što je u određenom vremenu smatralo najbitnijim za šume i šumarstvo. To su bili zakonski i podzakonski propisi vezani za šumarstvo, osnutak obrazovnih, znanstvenih i profesionalnih šumarskih i drvno-tehnoloških ustanova, organizacija šumarske uprave te šumskogospodarski zahvati u redovnim i izvanrednim situacijama. Članstvo Društva uvijek su činili svi slojevi struke od operativnog preko znanstvenog do upravljačkog i nadzornog sektora. Danas je Hrvatsko šumarsko društvo strukovna i staleška udruga šumarskih stručnjaka te stručnjaka iz područja lovstva, prerade i uporabe drva, biotehnike, kao i drugih stručnjaka s najmanje srednjom stručnom spremom koji rade na poslovima iz svih navedenih područja. Sadašnja i buduća vremena prilika su Hrvatskom šumarskom društvu da nastavi okupljati šumarsku i drvno-tehnološku struku i znanost te svojim glasom i djelom doprinijeti prilagodbi svim izazovima koji se javljaju na državnoj i globalnoj razini.
Šumarski list ove godine diči se svojim 150. godištem neprekinutog izlaženja te je najstariji hrvatski znanstveni časopis bez prekida u stvaranju i tiskanju. U svjetskim razmjerima pripada skupini deset najstarijih šumarskih časopisa. Jedan je i od starijih ekoloških časopisa. Šumarski list od svoga prvog dana, a izašao je s nadnevkom 1. siječnja 1877., bio je kronika zbivanja u hrvatskom šumarstvu, ali i šire. Zahvaljujući plejadi vrsnih urednika časopisa, koji su nekada dolazili iz operativnog šumarstva, a kasnije uglavnom iz znanstvenog segmenta šumarstva, stvoreno je cijenjeno i prepoznatljivo glasilo. Među urednicima posebno treba spomenuti prof. emer. Branimira Prpića koji je čak 41 godinu bio glavni urednik časopisa. Impozantna je statistika koja u 149 dosadašnjih godišta iznosi 1 128 izdanih svezaka i 86 900 stranica. Ne smije se zaboraviti ni kompletnu digitaliziranu arhivu časopisa kao i njegov otvoreni pristup s objavljivanjem na Hrčku – Portalu hrvatskih znanstvenih i stručnih časopisa od 2006. godine.
U obljetničkoj godini Šumarski list počinje sa svojom preobrazbom. Nakon 32 godine prepoznatljivih zelenih korica A4 formata časopis dobiva novo ruho s bijelom podlogom. Novi urednički tim, glavna urednica prof. dr. sc. Marilena Idžojtić te tehnički i grafički urednik Branko Meštrić, dipl. ing. šum., nakon polugodišnjeg uigravanja tijekom 2025. godine pred čitatelje i javnost izlaze s modernijim izgledom ne samo korica nego i cijeloga knjižnog bloka. Krajem prošle godine pokrenuta je nova rubrika o iznimnim stablima naših šuma, a novih rubrika bit će i ubuduće. Naravno da je šumarska struka i znanost pozvana uključiti se svojim doprinosom u stvaranje novih sadržaja ovoga s ponosom hrvatskoga šumarskog znanstveno-stručnog i staleškog glasila.
Pozivamo sve članove Hrvatskoga šumarskog društva, ali i šumarsku struku i znanost, da svojim aktivnostima u 2026. godini dostojno obilježe ove više nego značajne obljetnice.In this year, we are marking the 180th anniversary of the Croatian Forestry Society and the 150th anniversary of Šumarski list.
In two issues of Novine hrvatsko-slavonsko-dalmatinske (today’s Narodne novine – Croatian Official Gazette), No. 99 of 12 December 1846 and No. 100 of 16 December 1846, an invitation was published to the foresters of Croatia and Slavonia of that time to attend the founding assembly of the Forestry Department of the Croatian-Slavonian Economic Society, which is considered the beginning of today’s Croatian Forestry Society. On St Stephen’s Day, 26 December 1846, foresters to whom we owe the Society’s long existence gathered at the episcopal estate of Prečec, a location between Dugo Selo and Ivanić Grad. Despite poor weather conditions and flooding, 17 foresters attended the founding assembly.
Thus began a 180-year journey of the third oldest forestry society in Europe, after the German and Swiss societies, which today has more than 2,800 members. During the Society’s existence, the states in which it operated changed (six states), as did their names (ten state names), while the Society itself changed its name 13 times.
Over 180 years of its activity, the Society was initially led by distinguished individuals who developed Croatian forestry and later founded the Croatian-Slavonian Forestry Society in 1876. They were succeeded by noblemen, forest owners, landowners, forestry officials at various levels of state administration, and sometimes also modest civil servants. Most often, the presidents of the Society were eminent university professors of the Faculty of Forestry as well as respected forestry professional. Today, the Society is headed by its 41st president, the distinguished scientist, Academician Igor Anić. In operational terms, the Society has been managed by secretaries, 44 of them to date, also professionals of very broad backgrounds, ranging from civil servants to prominent scientists. In this jubilee year, the Society is led by Secretary Oliver Vlainić, a respected forestry professional and former President of the Croatian Forestry Society for two terms.
From its very beginning, through its activities the Society sought to promote the advancement of forestry, and proposed to political decision-makers what it considered, at a given time, to be of best interest for forests and forestry. Its work included proposing legislative and subordinate regulations related to forestry, the establishment of educational, scientific and professional forestry and wood-technology institutions, the organisation of forest administration, and forest management interventions in both regular and exceptional circumstances. The Society has always included all ranks of forestry professionals as its members, from operational and scientific to managerial and supervisory sectors. Today, the Croatian Forestry Society is a professional and guild association of forestry experts, experts in hunting, wood processing and wood utilisation, biotechnology, as well as other professionals with at least secondary education who work in any of the aforementioned fields. The present and future times provide an opportunity for the Croatian Forestry Society to continue bringing together the forestry and wood-technology profession and science, and to use its voice and its actions to help in the adaptation to all challenges arising at the national and global levels.
This year, Šumarski list proudly celebrates its 150th anniversary of uninterrupted publication, which makes it the oldest Croatian scientific journal with continuous production and printing. On a global scale, it is among the ten oldest forestry journals and among older ecological journals. From its very first day of publication, dated 1 January 1877, Šumarski list has served as a chronicle of events in Croatian forestry and beyond. Thanks to a succession of outstanding editors, initially from operational forestry and later predominantly from the scientific community, a respected and recognisable journal has been created. Among the editors, special mention should be made of Prof. emeritus Branimir Prpić, who served as editor-in-chief of the journal for as many as 41 years. The statistics are impressive: over the 149 volumes published to date, 1,128 issues and 86,900 pages have been produced. It is also important to mention the journal’s fully digitised archive and its open access availability via Hrčak – the Portal of Croatian Scientific and Professional Journals, since 2006. This anniversary year, Šumarski list shall start with its transformation. After 32 years of recognisable green A4-format covers, the journal is receiving a new look with a white background. The new editorial team—Editor-in-Chief Prof. Marilena Idžojtić, PhD, and Technical and Layout Editor Branko Meštrić, BSc in Forestry—after six months of preparation during 2025, is presenting to the readers and the public a more modern appearance, not only of the cover but of the entire journal layout. At the end of last year, a new section dedicated to exceptional trees of our forests was established, and additional new sections are planned for the future. Of course, the forestry profession and scientific community are invited to contribute to the creation of new content for this proud Croatian forestry scientific, professional and guild journal.

Utjecaj EU bespovratnih sredstava iz Operativnog programa Konkurentnost i kohezija 2014.-2020. na financijsku uspješnost poduzeća prerađivačke industrije u Hrvatskoj
The aim of this paper is to analyse the impact of EU grants on the financial performance of manufacturing companies in Croatia during the 2014-2020 programming period. The focus of the paper is on researching how grants from the Competitiveness and Cohesion Operational Programme 2014-2020 influenced key financial indicators such as profitability, liquidity, business stability and financial efficiency. A panel analysis of data on a sample of Croatian small and medium-sized enterprises over a six-year period (2017-2022) confirmed that grants, observed at the company level, have a positive impact on newly created value, while the impact on profitability and efficiency is not significant in the short term. Grants only created new value for the analyzed companies by reducing material costs while increasing debt and decreasing financial stability without significantly increasing profitability, liquidity and asset utilization efficiency in the short term. The negative impact of grants on certain variables in the short term can be seen as an investment in future growth and development, which implies a positive effect on long-term sustainability and business success. In the long term, grants can serve as a prerequisite for the growth and development of companies, but the shorter time lag between investments financed by grants and returns results in moderate effects on the financial performance of companies. The results and conclusions should be considered taking into account the main limitations of the study, namely the small sample size and the focus on a short time period. However, this does not affect the significance and importance of the conclusions. This paper contributes to science by presenting results on the effectiveness and importance of EU grants for manufacturing companies in Croatia.Cilj ovog rada je analizirati utjecaj bespovratnih sredstava Europske unije na financijsku uspješnost poduzeća iz prerađivačke industrije u Hrvatskoj tijekom programskog razdoblja 2014.-2020. Fokus rada je na istraživanju kako su bespovratna sredstva iz Operativnog programa Konkurentnost i kohezija 2014.-2020. utjecala na ključne financijske pokazatelje poput profitabilnosti, likvidnosti, stabilnosti poslovanja i financijske efikasnosti. Panel analizom podataka na uzorku malih i srednjih hrvatskih poduzeća tijekom šestogodišnjeg razdoblja (2017.-2022.), potvrđeno je da bespovratna sredstva, promatrano na razini poduzeća, pozitivno utječu na novostvorenu vrijednost, dok utjecaj na profitabilnost i učinkovitost nije značajan u kratkom roku. Bespovratna sredstva su kod analiziranih poduzeća samo stvorila novu vrijednost kroz smanjenje materijalnih troškova uz povećanje zaduženosti i smanjenje financijske stabilnosti bez značajnog utjecaja na povećanje profitabilnost, likvidnosti i efikasnosti korištenja imovine u kratkom roku. Negativni utjecaj bespovratnih sredstava na određene varijable u kratkom roku može se sagledati kao investicija u budući rast i razvoj, što implicira pozitivan učinak na dugoročnu održivost i uspješnost poslovanja. Dugoročno, bespovratna sredstva mogu poslužiti kao preduvjet za rast i razvoj poduzeća, ali kraći vremenski otklon između ulaganja financiranih bespovratnim sredstvima i povrata rezultira umjerenim efektima na financijsku uspješnost poduzeća. Rezultati i zaključci trebaju biti razmatrani uzimajući u obzir vodeće ograničenje istraživanja, odnosno mali uzorak te fokus na kratko vremensko razdoblje. Međutim, navedeno ne utječe na značajnost i važnost zaključaka. Ovaj rad doprinosi znanosti kroz prezentiranje rezultata o učinkovitosti te važnosti bespovratnih EU sredstava za poduzeća prerađivačke industrije u Hrvatskoj
Factors Affecting Behavior, Perceived Impact of AI on Work Engagement, and AI Application: Indonesian Context
This study aimed to elaborate on the predictors of behavioral intention, actual behavior, perceived impact of AI on work engagement, and the perceived impact of AI on teaching and learning in Asian higher education institutions (HEIs). We extended the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) to test the relationships among these variables. In total, 516 lecturers from three different universities contributed to the dataset. Partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) was employed to analyze the respondents’ data through both measurement and structural models. The findings indicate that actual behavior has a significant positive relationship with the perceived impact of AI on teaching and learning and the perceived impact of AI on work engagement. Behavioral intention is strongly correlated with actual behavior. Performance expectancy is the most prominent link to behavioral intention, followed by social influence and facilitating conditions. The results of the study underscore the importance of fostering a conducive environment through adequate facilitating conditions and aligning performance expectations to drive behavioral intention and perceived engagement with AI technologies in HEIs
From Reactive to Proactive: Automating IP Threat Intelligence in SIEM Systems for Cyber Threat Detection
Digital transformation has provided more opportunities for cybercriminals and exposed organizations to sophisticated threats. Organizations should continuously evaluate their security measures and implement defensive actions to prevent attacks by cybercriminals. Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) systems, deployed within Security Operations Centers (SOCs), allow organizations to identify security risks and vulnerabilities, monitor unusual behavior, and automatically respond to security events. However, SIEM platforms require certain functional enhancements. For instance, security analysts often use external threat intelligence platforms to check suspicious IP addresses manually. This results in longer response times and a greater likelihood of human error. Hence, this paper proposes an integration framework that correlates the functionality of an external threat intelligence platform (AbuseIPDB) with a SIEM system (IBM QRadar) to automatically validate suspicious IP addresses without the need for manual checking. The goal of this integration is to increase the efficiency of threat analysis, incident response, and SIEM-based threat detection. Tests demonstrated that our proposed framework shortens the threat validation time by up to 97.7%, compared to manual processes. Additionally, our system reduces false positives by capitalizing on contextual threat intelligence, thus allowing SOC teams to prioritize critical alerts
Factors Affecting Soil CO2 Emission in Forest Ecosystems – a Literature Overview
In this paper, our aim is to review the factors contributing to CO2 emissions from forest soils. Forest ecosystems play a crucial role in the global carbon cycle and they are essential for mitigating the negative impacts of climate change. Soils represent the largest reservoir of carbon in terrestrial ecosystems. Approximately 44% of the carbon within the world’s forests is stored in forest soil. Ecosystem respiration encompasses both aboveground and soil respiration. In various forest types, soil respiration (CO2 emissions from soil) can account for between 55% and 85% of total ecosystem respiration. Globally, soil CO2 emission is one of the major sources of greenhouse gas emissions, reaching up to 100 Gt C per year. Soil temperature and moisture are the most significant factors influencing soil CO2 emissions. One of these variables may exert a stronger influence on emissions than the other. Other important factors include soil type, soil properties, land uses (forests, grasslands, croplands, barren areas, and wetlands), land-use change, forest type, stand structure and forest management practices. Understanding how these factors impact soil CO2 emissions in forest ecosystems is crucial in the context of climate change. Forest management is a key factor influencing emissions and can lead to various outcomes for soil CO2 emissions in forest ecosystems. By studying the major factors affecting soil CO2 emissions in forest ecosystems, we can better understand their role in climate change mitigation
POVEZIVANJE OBRAZOVANJA I PODUZETNIŠTVA: ČIMBENICI USPJEHA STUDENTSKIH POSLOVNIH INKUBATORA U HRVATSKOJ
The paper aims to examine the operation of student business incubators, which play an increasingly important role in fostering entrepreneurship, innovation, and university–industry collaboration, especially in emerging entrepreneurial ecosystems such as Croatia’s. The research was conducted through in-depth interviews with five student business incubator managers. The study identified the dominant services provided by incubators, the barriers faced by their tenants, incubator outcomes, different forms of cooperation with the business sector, and plans for the future. The paper concludes that the most successful incubators provide support in: (1) idea development; (2) prototyping; (3) investor search; (4) market entry; and (5) identification of opportunities based on the needs of the business sector. The results will help other student business incubators conduct benchmarking and assist organizations planning to establish a student business incubator in implementing the identified successful practices.Cilj je rada ispitati djelovanje studentskih poslovnih inkubatora koji imaju sve značajniju ulogu u poticanju poduzetništva, inovacija i suradnje između sveučilišta i industrije, osobito u nastajućim poduzetničkim ekosustavima poput hrvatskoga. Istraživanje je provedeno na temelju dubinskih intervjua s pet voditelja studentskih poslovnih inkubatora. U radu su identificirane dominantne usluge koje inkubatori pružaju, prepreke s kojima se suočavaju njihovi korisnici, ishodi rada inkubatora, različiti oblici suradnje s poslovnim sektorom i planovi za budućnost. Zaključuje se da najuspješniji inkubatori pružaju podršku u: (1) razvoju ideja; (2) izradi prototipa; (3) pronalasku investitora; (4) ulasku na tržište; i (5) prepoznavanju prilika temeljenih na potrebama poslovnog sektora. Rezultati će pomoći drugim studentskim poslovnim inkubatorima u provedbi usporedne analize i organizacijama koje planiraju osnivanje studentskog poslovnog inkubatora u primjeni identificiranih uspješnih praksi
The Crucial Role of Graphic Design in Shaping User Experience: A Study Case
This study explores the integral role of graphic design in shaping user experiences on digital platforms, particularly on Instagram. Using Peirce's semiotic method, the research combines analyses of icons, indexes, and signs within the Instagram interface on user engagement, usability, and emotional connection. Findings indicate that the intentional design of these elements significantly influences users' initial engagement and overall satisfaction. However, frequent and disruptive changes to the graphic design, especially layout modifications, can negatively impact the user experience by disorienting users, reducing efficiency, and creating frustration. The study underscores the importance of thoughtful and consistent graphic design in creating engaging and user-friendly digital platforms. By understanding the semiotic significance of design elements, designers and developers can enhance user experiences and improve the overall platform performance
Electrochemical surface modification of Ti6Al4V: positioning electrochemical machining as a low-valence dissolution pathway for enhanced performance
The automotive, aerospace, biomedical, and other engineering sectors make substantial use of Ti6Al4V titanium alloy, known for its high strength-to-weight ratio, corrosion resistance, and biocompatibility, but it often suffers from poor tribological performance and low surface hardness. To increase durability, a variety of surface modification techniques have been investigated, including chemical etching, shot peening, thermal oxidation, laser surface texturing, and physical vapor deposition. However, these methods frequently entail high thermal input and mechanical stress with limited control over surface chemistry. Electrochemical methods, on the other hand, allow uniform and precise alteration of surface morphology without thermal or mechanical damage. Among these, anodization and plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) facilitate hardening and stress-free surfaces but suffer from passive film formation, porosity and micro-cracks, while electrochemical polishing (ECP) yields much better surface finish but at high energy cost and causes passive film formation. In this review, electrochemical machining (ECM), typically viewed as a subtractive method for material removal, is reevaluated as a process for both material removal and functional surface tailoring. Despite its application for removing material, ECM promotes valence-controlled dissolution that favours the formation of lower oxidation states of titanium. It also inhibits the formation of passive films and enables the formation of atomically smooth surfaces. The present study provides a novel theoretical framework for customizing Ti6Al4V surfaces with improved functional and morphological properties by integrating ECM with anodization, PEO and ECP within the broader paradigm of electrochemical surface engineering
Determination of acetaminophen and theophylline in drug samples by electrochemical method using Fe/MCM-41 modified electrode
In this study, we developed an electrochemical sensor based on an Fe/MCM-41 modified electrode for the simultaneous analysis of acetaminophen (AT) and theophylline (TP). The Fe/MCM-41 material was produced from diatomite silica and ferric chloride salts via a hydrothermal method. The synthesized material was characterized by XRD, SEM, TEM, EDX mapping, and nitrogen adsorption-desorption isotherms. Results showed that the Fe/MCM-41 maintained its mesoporous structure, high surface area, and uniform dispersion of Fe ions. Electrochemical tests revealed that the Fe/MCM-41 electrode exhibits superior electrocatalytic activity and higher current responses for both analytes than the bare electrode. The two oxidation peaks of AT and TP were distinctly separated, enabling simultaneous quantification of drugs with high selectivity. The peak current increased linearly with AT and TP concentrations from 0.50 to 14.15µM, with detection limits of 0.430 and 0.350 µM, respectively. Notably, the sensor was successfully used to analyze pharmaceutical formulations containing one or both active substances, with satisfactory recoveries. The results confirm that the Fe/MCM-41 electrode is a promising sensing platform for the simultaneous analysis of AT and TP, opening new possibilities for pharmaceutical testing
