    Effectiveness of the innovative remedy ApiBonum ib on honeybee colony vitality

    Varroosis is a severe disease affecting honeybees and their brood, caused by the parasitic mite Varroa destructor. This disease poses the greatest threat to modern beekeeping and is considered a primary factor in the global decline of honeybee colonies. Due to its harmful effects, the beekeeping research sector is actively seeking new, efficient solutions for improved disease control. This study evaluates the acaricidal properties of the innovative remedy ApiBonum ib and its effects on honeybee colony vitality. Conducted under experimental field conditions, this study demonstrated a significant decline in parasitic mite populations across all treated honeybee colonies. Additionally, ApiBonum ib positively influenced colony strength. As a natural remedy, ApiBonum ib poses no harm to honeybees, reduces the risk of mite resistance, and minimises residue accumulation in hive products. Its potential as a honeybee colony hygiene enhancer and immunomodulator suggests that ApiBonum ib could be a valuable tool for sustainable beekeeping

    Analysis of the Trafficability of Spherical Internal Detec-tors in Pipelines

    This study aims to enhance the motion stability of a spherical internal detector within a flow field, thereby preventing jamming or deviations during the inspection process. Firstly, a fluid-structure interaction model of a spherical detector in a pipe-line was built, and flow field calculations were performed for a straight pipe and a 60° elbow with a 600 mm diameter, examining various ball-to-pipe diameter ratios. The analysis, including the flow field and pressure distribution characteristics of the spherical internal detector within the pipe configurations, was supplemented by experimental verification. The findings reveal that the thrust generated by the spherical internal detector correlates positively with the ball-to-pipe diameter ratio. However, an excessively high ratio 0.8 led to a rapid decrease in fluid velocity in the wake region and an increase in the radial region. Significantly, when the spherical internal detector navigates through a 60° pipe elbow, its angular velocity triples compared to that in a straight pipe section, potentially reducing the detector’s ser-vice life. For 600 mm diameter pipes, it is recommended that the optimal condition is achieved with a ball-to-pipe diameter ratio of 0.6 and an initial fluid flow velocity of 1.5 m/s to extend service life while ensuring optimal trafficability of the spherical internal detector

    This systematic review synthesises qualitative research examining the factors that influence Diaspora Direct Investment (DDI) in emerging economies, with a particular focus on the role of institutional environments and transnational networks. Following established systematic literature review protocols, the article surveys 31 peer-reviewed qualitative studies published between 2014 and 2024, retrieved from primary scientific databases, including Web of Science, Scopus, and JSTOR. The synthesis identifies six interconnected themes shaping DDI dynamics: non-economic motivations and emotional connections, transnational networks and social capital, knowledge transfer and capacity building, institutional factors and paradoxical advantages, policy effectiveness and implementation challenges, and heterogeneity within diaspora communities. The analysis reveals how diaspora investors navigate institutional environments differently from traditional foreign investors, leveraging cultural knowledge and social networks to overcome barriers. The findings extend the transnational entrepreneurship theoretical model by identifying three specific mechanisms through which dual embeddedness operates: (1) simultaneous access to resources in both home and host countries, (2) ability to leverage cultural knowledge to navigate informal institutional arrangements, and (3) capacity to transform institutional weaknesses into competitive advantages through network-based solutions. Future research opportunities include longitudinal studies, comparative analyses, and mixed-methods approaches. The findings provide actionable insights for policymakers and practitioners seeking to enhance diaspora engagement and investment in emerging economies, offering evidence-based strategies for leveraging global diaspora networks. On the other hand, the synthesis reveals persistent implementation gaps between policy design and execution, emphasising the importance of trust-building and institutional credibility in diaspora engagement strategies. Overall, the key contribution of this article is in the systematic synthesis of a decade of research on DDI, revealing patterns in how diaspora investors differ from traditional foreign investors and identifying specific challenges in policy implementation that have received limited attention in prior literature.Ovaj sustavni pregled sintetizira kvalitativna istraživanja koja ispituju čimbenike koji utječu na izravna ulaganja dijaspore (DDI) u gospodarstvima u razvoju, s posebnim naglaskom na ulogu institucionalnog okruženja i transnacionalnih mreža. Slijedeći utvrđene protokole za sustavne preglede literature, članak obuhvaća 31 recenzirano kvalitativno istraživanje objavljeno između 2014. i 2024., prikupljeno iz primarnih znanstvenih baza podataka, uključujući Web of Science, Scopus i JSTOR. Sintezom je identificirano šest međusobno povezanih tema koje oblikuju dinamiku DDI-ja: neekonomske motivacije i emocionalne veze, transnacionalne mreže i društveni kapital, prijenos znanja i jačanje kapaciteta, institucionalni čimbenici i paradoksalne prednosti, učinkovitost politika i izazovi njihove provedbe te heterogenost unutar zajednica dijaspore. Analiza otkriva kako ulagatelji iz dijaspore drukčije navigiraju institucionalnim okruženjem u odnosu na tradicionalne inozemne ulagatelje koristeći se poznavanjem kulture i društvenim mrežama kako bi prevladali prepreke. Nalazi proširuju teorijski model transnacionalnog poduzetništva identificirajući tri specifična mehanizma s pomoću kojih djeluje dvostruka ukorijenjenost: (1) istovremeni pristup resursima u zemlji podrijetla i zemlji domaćinu, (2) sposobnost korištenja poznavanjem kulture za snalaženje unutar neformalnih institucionalnih aranžmana te (3) sposobnost pretvaranja institucionalnih slabosti u konkurentske prednosti s pomoću rješenja temeljenih na umrežavanju. Buduća istraživanja trebala bi uključiti longitudinalne studije, komparativne analize i mješovite metode. Nalazi pružaju praktične uvide za donositelje politika i praktičare koji žele unaprijediti angažman dijaspore i ulaganja u gospodarstvima u razvoju nudeći strategije utemeljene na dokazima za iskorištavanje globalnih mreža dijaspore. S druge strane, sinteza otkriva trajni jaz između dizajna politika i njihove provedbe, naglašavajući važnost izgradnje povjerenja i institucionalnog kredibiliteta u strategijama angažmana dijaspore. Sve u svemu, ključni je doprinos ovog članka u sustavnoj sintezi desetljeća istraživanja o DDI-ju, otkrivajući obrasce u razlikama između ulagatelja iz dijaspore i tradicionalnih inozemnih ulagatelja te identificirajući specifične izazove u provedbi politika koji u prethodnoj literaturi nisu bili dovoljno istraženi

    Management ownership and earnings management: application of matching techniques

    This paper investigates the effect of managerial ownership on earnings management for the sample of European listed companies. To estimate the treatment effect of a manager who is also a controlling shareholder on earnings management, entropy balancing (EB), propensity score matching (PSM) and Mahalanobis distance matching (MDM) techniques are employed to identify a control sample. The EB method of reweighting control sample observations is compared to PSM and MDM techniques, as well as to standard ordinary least squares (OLS) regression, while controlling for the effects of company size, profitability, solvency, sales growth, and ownership concentration. The results demonstrate a significant positive relationship between management ownership and earnings management only when using the entropy balancing approach, and an insignificant relationship when applying PSM, MDM and OLS methods

    Customer impatience in the GI/M(k)/1/N queue with working vacation: Economic and performance analysis

    This study investigates a GI/M(k)/1/N queueing system with Bernoulli feedback and multiple working vacation policy. The model incorporates customer impatience and accounts for the retention of reneged customers. By employing the supplementary variable technique and recursive methods, we derive the steady-state distributions of the customer count at both pre-arrival and arbitrary epochs. Various system performance measures are analyzed. In addition, an economic evaluation is carried out. Numerical illustrations are provided using the R software to confirm the analytical findings and highlight the influence of queueing parameters on performance indicators and system costs

    N-Acetylcysteine in Dogs and Cats: Pharmacokinetics, Therapeutic Effects and Antioxidant Function

    N-acetylcysteine (NAC), a derivative of the amino acid cysteine, is widely recognised for its diverse pharmacological properties, including antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and mucolytic effects. As a precursor to glutathione, NAC plays a critical role in maintaining redox balance and mitigating oxidative stress, thereby preventing cellular damage caused by reactive oxygen species. While NAC has been extensively studied in human medicine, its application in veterinary medicine, particularly in dogs and cats, has gained growing interest in recent years. Beyond its antioxidant action, NAC exhibits clinically relevant anti-inflammatory and mucolytic effects, positioning it as a valuable therapeutic agent for managing hepatic, respiratory, and toxicological conditions in small animals. This review aims to synthesise the current knowledge on the pharmacokinetics, therapeutic applications, and species-specific considerations of NAC in canine and feline medicine, highlighting its potential to fill important gaps in oxidative stress management and supportive therapy in veterinary practice

Since 2019, all articles have been published in English, and the new journal title further underscores our commitment to international visibility and accessibility. Beginning in 2026, under its new name, the journal plans to publish six regular issues per year. The Croatian Veterinary Journal publishes peer-reviewed scientific and professional articles in the fields of Veterinary Medicine, Animal Sciences, and Biotechnology. The journal welcomes original research papers, review articles, short communications, professional papers, case reports, conference reports, and book reviews. Our mission is to serve veterinary practitioners, researchers, and academics by providing a platform for the exchange of knowledge, supporting evidence-based practice, and fostering scientific advancement.     Optimized Intrusion Detection in IoT Networks Using Ensemble Deep Learning and Ant Colony Optimization

    Many innovative applications in home automation, industry, health and environmental monitoring are possible because of the Internet of Things (IoT). At the same time, the rise in devices can make cybersecurity attacks more likely. Intrusion Detection Systems (IDSs) play a vital role in protecting networks by identifying and responding to attacks. Because IoT networks are used more often, there are privacy concerns since IDS use big data sets for deep learning (DL) and machine learning (ML). It is important to use effective DL/ML-based IDS systems to spot and classify attacks on IoT networks. The paper suggests using Ensemble Deep Learning Models and Ant Colony Optimization for an improved Intrusion Detection System (OIDS-EDLMACO). The goal is to improve detection of attacks in IoT networks by applying advanced ensemble models. Min-max normalization is used to preprocess the data at the start. After that, the Chimp Optimization Algorithm (ChOA) is used to select the most important features. OIDS-EDLMACO uses an ensemble of Bi-LSTM, SNN and SAE models for classification. Also, Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) is applied to tune the hyperparameters of the ensemble classifier for better performance. The OIDS-EDLMACO model reached an average accuracy of 99.27%, precision of 98.17%, recall of 98.17%, F1-score of 98.17% and detection rate of 98.86%. The findings show that OIDS-EDLMACO is effective for detecting intrusions. Future research will concentrate on protecting data during training and making sure federated IoT systems can scale in real time
