Clozapine Use in Children and Adolescents: A Literature Review and a Case Report from Croatia

    No full text
Ovaj pregledni rad analizira dostupne podatke o učinkovitosti i sigurnosti klozapina u pedijatrijskoj populaciji, uključujući farmakološke mehanizme, terapijski potencijal i nuspojave. Unatoč dokazima o superiornosti klozapina u TRS-u, njegova primjena u dječjoj i adolescentskoj psihijatriji ostaje nezadovoljavajuća.Clozapine is the only antipsychotic with proven superiority in the treatment of treatment-resistant schizophrenia (TRS), yet its use in children and adolescents, to our knowledge, is rare both in the world and in Croatia. Despite growing evidence of its efficacy, its prescription is often delayed due to concerns about side effects and the need for intensive monitoring. To our knowledge, the literature in Croatia lacks published research and case reports that could serve as guidelines for clinical practice, which further complicates the timely introduction of this effective therapy in children and adolescents. This review examines the available evidence on the efficacy and safety of clozapine in the paediatric population, including its pharmacological mechanisms, therapeutic potential, and adverse effects. Additionally, a clinical case of an adolescent with treatment-resistant disorganized schizophrenia is presented, demonstrating clinical improvement following clozapine administration. Despite its well-documented superiority in TRS, clozapine remains underutilized in paediatric psychiatry

The current state of knowledge on Euphorbia subgen. Chamaesyce sect. Anisophyllum in Croatia, based on literature analysis, herbarium specimens, data from the Flora Croatica Database (FCD) and personal field observations, is presented. Before this study, six species from this section have been reported several times for Croatia: two native (E. peplis and E. chamaesyce) and four introduced and naturalized (E. humifusa, E. maculata, E. nutans, and E. prostrata). Here, I report on the occurrence of two new species, E. glyptosperma and E. serpens, in the flora of Croatia, and confirm the presence of the recently published record of E. hypericifolia. Euphorbia serpens and E. hyperificifolia were found as weeds in several garden centers in the areas of Šibenik and Zadar, where they were recently introduced through seeds in the soil of pots with ornamental plants imported from Italy. On the other hand, E. glyptosperma has been present in Croatia for approximately ten years and can be considered a naturalized species. A brief description of the three newly recorded taxa is provided, along with notes on key characteristics. Data on taxonomy, ecology and current distribution for each species are given, as well as the data on the first occurrence and the dynamics of spread of the introduced taxa in Europe and Croatia. Finally, an updated identification key comprising the nine taxa of Euphorbia sect. Anisophyllum occurring in Croatia is provided

The Influence of Metallurgical Slag on Properties of Magnesium Sulfoaluminate Cement-Based Coating Materials

    No full text
Magnesium sulfoaluminate cement (MSC) can be used as an inorganic ce-ment-based coating material on metal surfaces, which has the advantages of good durability compared with organic coating materials. The effects of metallurgical slag on the fluidity, setting time, strength, and stability of MSC were studied to further enhance the role of the coating material. The hydration products and mi-crostructure of MSC were analyzed by combining X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) testing techniques. The results showed that the slag reduced the fluidity of MSC and shortened their setting time. The incor-poration of slag significantly increased the strength of MSC at 1 day of age while reducing the shrinkage rate of MSC, but the water resistance of MSC decreased with the increase of slag content. XRD and SEM analysis showed that the slag ac-celerated early hydration, generated abundant fine crystals and gels, and reduced structural porosity. This study provides a theoretical basis for subsequent research on inorganic cement-based coating materials for the MSC system

    No full text
The primary objective of this study is to identify the factors influencing passengers' preferences for cruise tourism in Türkiye and to evaluate their significance level. The most important criteria were determined using the fuzzy DEMATEL method, and the results were evaluated. The most significant criterion for passengers opting for cruise tourism is travel costs. Accordingly, the criteria of activities and entertainment, ship type and structure, destination, safety, accommodation, and restaurant services have been identified. The criterion of lesser importance is port management. Cruise tourism stakeholders can design upcoming steps according to this research, in which the most important criteria have been identified and the results evaluated. The analysis of these criteria will also contribute to policymakers, practitioners, and entrepreneurs who require novel sources of information. The importance of ranking the criteria influencing the preference for cruise tourism to contribute to sustainable development demonstrated the necessity of identifying the most significant criteria. These criteria are of high significance in the contemporary worldwide cruise tourism industry, which needs to be accentuated. The factors influencing the preference for cruise tourism reveal information that can contribute to the development of this sector

Preuzimanje konkurencije kao izvor održive konkurentske prednosti

    No full text

This article analyses the motif of the gaze in the biblical story of the chaste Susanna, who resists extortion by two lecherous elders, is falsely accused of adultery, and condemned to death due to their false testimony, only to be saved by divine intervention through the young Daniel. In interpreting the story, the motifs of the gaze, limited perspective, and observation are linked to the central theme of distinguishing truth from lies, as well as to the literary techniques that articulate this theme in various ways, withparticular attention to narrative perspective. The selected complex of motifs is analysed in the Old Testament text, in the Renaissance epic Istoria della casta Susanna (The Tale of Virtuous Susanna) by Lucrezia Tornabuoni (as interpreted by Francesca Maria Gabrielli), in the Croatian Glagolitic version in the Hrvojev misal (Hrvoje’s Missal) and in Marulić’s epyllion Suzana. The interpretation of Marulić’s work is based on the above-mentioned texts, especially on the analysis of the Croatian Church Slavonic translation of the biblical story in the Glagolitic missal. The use of the gaze motif, the approach to the topic of the distinction between truth and falsehood, and the effect of false testimony as a speech act are interpreted in terms of their role in conveying the dominant religious and moral message. The analysis is intended to show that the most diverse motifs and intertextual signals — regardless of their origin or literary model — are consistently subordinated to an extra-literary, religious, and didactic function. The article thus supports the argument that Marulić’s Croatian works belong poetically to the Middle Ages rather than the Renaissance, a thesis that has recently been systematically argued by Tomislav Bogdan

Seasonal variations in the somatic cell count in cow's milk: a key indicator of mammary gland health

    No full text
Evaluating the somatic cell count (SCC) at the level of the herd or individual cows allows for efficient monitoring of mammary gland health. By analysing SCC, it is possible to identify subclinical cases of mastitis that do not manifest through visible clinical signs on the udder or changes in milk. This study was conducted on a modern dairy farm of the Holstein-Friesian breed in the municipality of Čapljina, Bosnia and Herzegovina. The total number of cows included in the study during 2022 and 2023 ranged between 325 and 335. Milk samples were preserved with azidiol and transported to the laboratory. Milk quality was assessed by determining the SCC in milk using the Fluoro-opto-electronic method, and by analysing the fat, protein, and lactose contents. The devices used in the study were CombiFoss 6200 – MilkoScan FT and Fossomatic FC 6000. A strong positive correlation was found between SCC and milk proteins, but not with milk fat. A significant negative correlation was found between SCC and lactose. There was no significant difference in the number of somatic cells by year, although there was a significant difference by season within the studied years. Winter stands out as the season with the lowest SCC, followed by spring and summer, while autumn had the highest count. Autumn also showed the largest oscillations in SCC, while spring had the smallest. Somatic cell counts over 200,000/mL were recorded from July to December 2022 and from May to November 2023. Zoohygiene conditions and milking hygiene measures should be additionally adjusted in summer and autumn to maintain the desired standards achieved in winter and spring

Symmetrical and High-Speed CMOS Inverter Design Using Hybrid PSOGSA Optimization Algorithm

    No full text
Complementary Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor (CMOS) inverters are fundamental building blocks in digital integrated circuits (ICs), where achieving high-speed operation and symmetrical switching characteristics remains a significant design challenge. Traditional optimization methods often fall short in balancing the trade-offs between performance parameters such as rise time, fall time, and propagation delay. This paper presents a novel approach using a hybrid metaheuristic algorithm, Particle Swarm Optimization combined with the Gravitational Search Algorithm (PSOGSA), to optimize CMOS inverter design parameters effectively. The proposed method leverages the global search capability of PSO and the local refinement ability of GSA to enhance both convergence speed and solution quality. The research explores eight sets of design parameter constraints under three key optimization cases: (i) minimizing fall time, (ii) achieving symmetrical rise time (tr) and fall times (tf) and (iii) balancing propagation delays like high to low (tpHL) and low to high (tpLH) The optimized inverter circuit was implemented in the 45 nm technology in cadence EDA tool. The performance of PSOGSA-optimized inverters is benchmarked against results from PSpice simulations and seven conventional optimization techniques. Simulation results reveal that the proposed PSOGSA method achieves propagation delays in the range of 0.54-0.63 ns while maintaining switching symmetry between 97% and 99%. These outcomes highlight the algorithm's effectiveness in delivering robust, high-performance CMOS inverter designs with enhanced switching uniformity. The proposed methodology offers a promising optimization strategy for future low-power and high-speed VLSI applications
