“Ljudski govor”: preoblikovanje informiranog pristanka u obični jezik u postupku traženja azila
This article examines how the emic keyword “human speech” circulates among actors in the asylum procedure and how its situated meanings can inform the design of applied anthropological interventions. Building on research into interpreters’ positionality, institutional scripting, and communicative asymmetries, the analysis foregrounds what “human speech” indexes in interactional and institutional contexts. I argue that positioning linguistic clarity at the center of legal procedure is not merely a stylistic concern but a question of epistemic justice. Ethnographic research conducted in Slovakia (2017–2019) revealed how applicants routinely signed legally binding documents without adequate comprehension or institutional accountability. The notion of “human speech” is examined through an epistemic, pragmatic, and empirical lens, drawing on the perspectives of applicants, interpreters, legal practitioners, and state officials. The article demonstrates how authorship of plain language can be institutionalized as a structural obligation rather than left to ad hoc compromise. An ethnography-informed intervention (2023–2024) shows how the concept of “human speech” guided the intralingual legal-to-plain-language transformation of informed consent templates in the asylum procedure.
The article investigates oral narratives by modern residents of Mezen about the survival of four fishermen marooned on Edge Island (Spitsbergen) in 1743–1749. It presents an analysis of how the historical event described in the 18th century by Pierre-Louis Le Roy has been transformed into modern oral stories. The main focus is on the role of institutional (museums, schools) and informal (family lore) channels of memory transmission, as well as the influence of social status, education, and profession of respondents on the structure and content of their narratives. The study is based on field materials collected during 2022 fieldwork in the town of Mezen in the Arkhangelsk region. The results show that the narrative of the Mezen “Robinsons” has been primarily preserved among cultural and educational professionals, while the remaining respondents are either unfamiliar with the narrative or have substituted it with their own experiences. The key elements of the narrative (shipwreck, existential struggle, rescue) are identified, as well as their folkloric and modern interpretations. The article contributes to the study of mechanisms of transmission of historical memory and demonstrates how book versions of events are adapted in the oral tradition, combining elements of primary and secondary orality. The work is interdisciplinary in nature, combining methods of folklore studies, anthropology, and sociology.Članak istražuje usmene predaje suvremenih stanovnika grada Mezena o preživljavanju četvorice ribara nasukanih na otoku Edgeøya (Spitsbergen) između 1743. i 1749. godine. Članak pridonosi proučavanju mehanizama prijenosa povijesnog pamćenja i pokazuje kako se knjižne verzije događaja adaptiraju u usmenoj tradiciji, kombinirajući elemente primarne i sekundarne usmenosti.
The history and the revivalistic significance of the Croatian song Nek se hrusti šaka mala [Let the Little Fist Clench] in its homeland, where it was suppressed by censorship for many years, is well known. A new insight, however, is that the song also resonated strongly with other Slavic nations. This new perspective is illustrated in the study by a number of examples from Czech musical culture. The study also seeks to shed light on the possible migration of the song and its reception in the Czech environment, which had traditionally been open to the idea of Slavic solidarity. The findings of the research reveal that the song captivated Czechs not only with its melody and rousing patriotic lyrics but also with its unique history. This methodologically traditional study offers a broader and updated perspective, providing a wealth of new insights, along with a textual appendix and score examples.U ovom se radu istražuje recepcija hrvatske davorije Nek se hrusti šaka mala u češkoj glazbenoj kulturi.
Članak nudi i retrospektivu prethodnih istraživanja.
Zagreb Piano Virtuoso Ludmila Makovec: A Bio-Bibliographical Study with a Special Focus on Her Concert Career
The paper provides previously unknown details about the professional and private life of the Zagreb pianist Ludmila Makovec (married name Kaiser, 1872–1932), who was briefly mentioned in research by Franjo Ksaver Kuhač, Velimir Deželić, Ivan Krašnjak, and Lucija Konfic. Although her concert career can be followed for only five years (from 1889 to 1893), during which we know for certain that she appeared on stage twelve times (twice in Zagreb and ten times in Vienna), it affords interesting glimpses into musical life in Zagreb and Vienna at the end of the 19th century. Her appearances are analysed on the basis of programmes and notices preserved in her press clippings, the number of which has been substantially added to by further research, and augmented by other useful secondary sources. Primary sources, such as registers of births, marriages and deaths, have yielded biographical details about her and her family – parents, brother, sister, and husband Dragutin Kaiser (1873–1915), a well-regarded pianist, conductor and music pedagogue, as well as their four sons. Appended to the paper is a list of her repertoire and a bibliography of works in which she is mentioned
Sketches of the Music Biennale Zagreb and New Music from the Journal Sovetskaya muzïka (1961–1991)
Ovo istraživanje stremi rekonstruirati i kontekstualizirati stavove i mišljenja o Muzičkom biennaleu Zagreb prezentirane u časopisu Sovetskaja muzyka u razdoblju od začetka festivala 1961. do 1991. godine. This study examines and contextualizes the attitudes of Soviet musicologists and musicians towards avant-garde and modernist trends in Croatia, primarily based on materials about the Zagreb Music Biennale published in the journal Sovetskaya muzïka from 1961 to 1991. Additionally, by referencing the Soviet repertoire performed at the Biennale, this research aims to elucidate the image that the Soviet Union actively sought to project at one of the few festivals where composers from both sides of the Iron Curtain regularly convened, despite the ongoing Cold War rivalry.
Regarding the repertoire performed at the Biennale, it is evident that during the 1960s, a balanced representation of Western and Eastern music was well-established, with numerous works by contemporary Soviet composers featured. However, interest in the Soviet repertoire declined sharply in the 1970s, resulting in the near-total disappearance of Soviet composers from the program. This trend reversed somewhat in the 1980s, though Soviet compositions never regained the prominence they had enjoyed in the 1960s.
Two key tendencies are noticeable regarding the Soviet artistic delegations and the repertoire they presented at the Biennale in Zagreb. First, Soviet performers regularly participated from 1963 to 1969 but were entirely absent from the program during the 1970s. Although they reappeared in 1981 and 1983, continuity was not reestablished, and they did not participate again until 1991, during the final Biennale held in the existence of both the Soviet Union and Yugoslavia. Second, while the Soviet artistic delegations did present »new music«, it cannot be generally characterized as avant-garde or modernist in the Western sense. Despite the festival’s inception in 1961 during Khrushchev’s Thaw, the nature of the repertoire reflects a consistent tendency in Soviet cultural policy to reject Western avant-garde movements and adhere to a more traditional approach to new music. The tendency to reject Western and radical avant-garde vogue is also reflected in the reports from the Biennale published in the journal Sovetskaya muzïka, as well as in texts related to the Yugoslav Music Tribune

The MECA Matrix: A New Framework for Analysing Media Appearances of Healthcare Professionals
Background: The increasing media presence of healthcare professionals signifi cantly infl uences public health perception, trust in healthcare systems, and the spread of health information, necessitating a systematic approach to evaluate and optimize their communication strategies. Aim: To develop and present an innovative methodological framework—the MECA (Media Exposure Content Analysis) matrix—for the systematic analysis of media appearances of healthcare professionals, integrating both qualitative and quantitative approaches to assess verbal, nonverbal, and paraverbal communication elements. Methods: A total of 181 statements made by healthcare professionals—including physicians, nurses, medical technicians, pharmacists, and psychologists—were analysed. Statements by the Minister of Health were also included, given their systemic relevance. The dataset was compiled from television news reports aired on TV chanels between January 1 and January 31, 2024. A comprehensive review of existing content analysis methodologies was conducted to inform the analytical framework. The MECA matrix was validated through rigorous procedures to ensure its reliability and consistency. Results: The MECA matrix was designed and implemented to categorise and code media appearances. It integrates both qualitative and quantitative approaches to systematically assess communication elements across these dimensions to assess verbal, nonverbal, and paraverbal communication elements. Conclusion: The MECA matrix offers a novel, multidimensional approach for evaluating healthcare communication in media settings, addressing a crucial gap in existing methodologies by including ethical criteria and enabling cross-modal analysis. While the model has limitations—such as the need for linguistic competence and the inability to analyse purely visual or non-contextual audio content—it signifi cantly advances the systematic evaluation of public health communication, supporting professional development, trust-building, and public health policy formation
The Challenges Facing Biogas Industry in the Energy Crisis (2021–23)
Bioplinska postrojenja značajna su sastavnica održivog energetskog sustava. Rad analizira izazove s kojima se bioplinski sektor suočavao tijekom energetske krize u razdoblju 2021. –2023. Biogas plants are an important component of a sustainable energy system. This paper analyzes the challenges faced by the biogas sector during the energy crisis in the period from 2021 to 2023. The war in Ukraine caused a significant increase in the price of corn silage, which negatively affected the plants that rely on this raw material. To mitigate the increased costs, many biogas plants took advantage of more favorable energy prices on the open market and exited the incentive system of the Croatian Energy Market Operator (HROTE). In addition to an analysis of secondary sources concerning the data on market conditions and state intervention during the crisis, the paper is based on an interview with a biogas‐sector representative
The role of the nurse in treating a patient with Heyde syndrome
When patients with symptoms of aortic stenosis also experience gastrointestinal bleeding caused by acquired coagulopathy (Von Willbrand syndrome type 2A), resulting in iron deficiency anemia, it is called Heyde's syndrome. Aortic stenosis is a narrowing of the mouth of the aorta. It is a heart valve disease characterized by a combination of three key symptoms: angina pectoris, heart failure, and syncope. It can be congenital or acquired, but it is much less often congenital, and then it is associated with other heart defects.
Diagnosing aortic stenosis is relatively simple using an echocardiographic examination of the heart. However, the occurrence of bleeding from the gastrointestinal tract requires a multidisciplinary approach and additional diagnostic procedures. Involving various specialties can lead to a faster diagnosis and more effective treatment. After medical treatment and possible operations in the area of the gastrointestinal tract, the gold standard for the patient is the replacement of the aortic valve. This procedure effectively addresses all the issues associated with aortic stenosis, including the cessation of any gastrointestinal bleeding. During the entire treatment process, the role of nurses is irreplaceable, and they contribute to a favorable treatment outcome by actively implementing the health care process
