Permeable Concrete-based on Construction and Demolition waste Aggregates used in Permeable Paving Slabs
The recycling of construction and demolition waste is one of the solutions for reducing the environmental impacts, where residues can be used in permeable paving, produced with large recycled aggregates. The novelty herein is to conduct an experimental testing stage for producing permeable concrete slabs, using coarse Recycled aggregates from Construction and Demolition waste, as a future application in permeable paving. The methodology consists of evaluating the effects of Construction and Demolition waste aggregates on the properties of permeable concrete in the fresh state and the hardened state. Permeable concrete slabs were produced based on five types of concrete mixtures, which can be applied as a final coating on soils with permeable profiles. A sustainable environment contributes to the improvement of knowledge and development on one of the applications of permeable concrete elements by recycling the waste generated by Civil Construction activities, mainly from non-renewable resources
At the crossroads of nation and market: Serbia's postcommunist transition in a comparative and historical perspective
Članak daje fokusirani pregled novije literature o karakteristikama i varijantama kapitalizma u postkomunističkoj Evropi, a zatim ovako razvijen teorijski i komparativni okvir primenjuje na slučaj Srbije. Ovakav model razvoja, iako dugoročno suboptimalan, rešio je problem masovne nezaposlenosti, na taj način doprinoseći legitimaciji autoritarne vladavine Aleksandra VučićaIn the article post-communist economic and political transition of Serbia is analyzed within and in interaction with the transition trajectories of the wider postcommunist region. The article provides a focused overview of the recent literature on the characteristics and variations of capitalism in post-communist Europe, followed by an application of this theoretical and comparative framework to the case study of Serbia. The main thesis is that the trajectory and outcome of Serbia’s transition were largely determined by the country falling behind in the regional race to attract foreign capital in the 1990s. Limiting the country’s long-term attractiveness for foreign investment, the first transitional decade shaped the economic and political choices available to subsequent Serbian governments. By making it impossible to find answers to the problem of mass unemployment, the modest inflow of foreign capital made it difficult to consolidate democracy in the first decade of the 2000s. Only in the last decade, in partially changed international circumstances, Serbia found a way to attract more foreign capital through specialization in labor-intensive, export-oriented industries with low added value. This model of development, although suboptimal in the long term, solved the problem of mass unemployment, thus helping legitimize authoritarian rule of Aleksandar Vučić
Historical maps as a tool in the interpretation of urban topsoil geochemistry: A case study from the Roman city of Sisak, Croatia
Topsoil geochemistry maps of the city of Sisak were compared with historical maps to explain the geochemistry of the topsoil. Historically, three periods of Sisak's development can be distinguished: 1) the Celtic and Roman period; 2) the Medieval period, and 3) the industrial era during the 20th century. Comparison of the geochemical maps with the historical maps reveals 1) the accumulation of elements in the soil and their preservation over 2,000 years; 2) the influence of infrastructural interventions on the geochemical composition of the topsoil and 3) the high rate of accumulation of potentially toxic elements in the topsoil due to rapid industrialisation on purely arable land
Label-free electrochemical immunosensor for porcine gelatin using a boron-doped diamond electrode via diazonium salt electrografting
Porcine gelatin is widely used in the food and pharmaceutical industries due to its favorable functional properties and low cost. However, its presence in consumer products raises serious concerns for individuals with dietary restrictions based on religious, ethical, or health considerations. In this study, a label-free electrochemical immunosensor was developed using a boron-doped diamond electrode modified with aryl diazonium salt for the selective and sensitive detection of porcine gelatin. The diazonium electrografting enabled stable covalent immobilization of anti-porcine gelatin antibodies via protein A, preserving antibody orientation and activity. Experimental parameters were optimized using the Box-Behnken design, yielding ideal conditions of 500× antibody concentration, 60 min antibody incubation, and 15 min gelatin incubation. Detection was performed using differential pulse voltammetry with [Fe(CN)₆]3-/4- as a redox probe, allowing label-free monitoring of antibody-antigen interactions based on changes in current. The immunosensor demonstrated excellent analytical performance, with a detection limit of 142.15 pg mL-1. Specificity testing confirmed that the sensor responds exclusively to porcine gelatin, showing no cross-reactivity with bovine gelatin. These results demonstrate that the proposed immunosensor provides a rapid, highly sensitive, and specific platform for porcine gelatin detection, offering great potential for food authentication and halal verification

Uloga i znanstveni doprinos ruskih emigranata u razvoju Sveučilišta u Zagrebu
Hrvatski latinisti kroz povijest
