KONSTRUKCIJA RODNOGA IDENTITETA KROZ METAFORU U AMERIČKOJ TRAP GLAZBI

    No full text
American trap, as a contemporary, popular musical genre which depicts a society full of vice, drugs, sexual promiscuity and immorality, seems to have nothing in common with any type of tradition or norms and moral values, let alone patriarchal society. However, a closer look at the choice of metaphors and the way gender identity is constructed through metaphor in the lyrics offers a different perspective. The aim of this paper is to examine the construction of gender identity through metaphor in American trap music on the sample of 75 American trap songs. The metaphors in the lyrics will be analyzed using the framework of Conceptual Metaphor Theory combined with critical metaphor analysis and the theoretical background of gender studies and patriarchal ideology. The purpose is to draw attention to the values and ideals promoted to young people in the form of catchy beats and harmless entertainment. Metafore u stihovima analizirat će se koristeći postavke teorije konceptualne metafore u kombinaciji s kritičkom analizom metafora i teoretskom podlogom rodnih studija i patrijarhalne ideologije.

Multilevel Investigation of Higher Tourism Education Service Quality in the Digital Era: Integrating SAMR Framework and Technology Affordance Theory

    No full text
Digital transformation poses significant challenges for higher education institutions in tourism education, where technological integration is crucial. Leveraging the technology affordance theory lens, a multilevel framework posits the concepts of substitution, augmentation, modification, and redefinition (SAMR) as key principles. This model represents a progressive and transformative approach that educators can utilize through digital tools to enhance the quality of educational services by making strategic investments aligned with the needs of digital transformation. Data was collected from 209 faculty members and 2,466 corresponding students across seven Egyptian tourism colleges. Multilevel structural equation modelling results revealed that digital transformation requirements have a positive influence on the enhancement and transformation stages of SAMR, thereby improving educational service quality. Findings demonstrate how institutional requirements shape faculty members' actualization of technological affordances across the SAMR stages, progressing from essential substitution to transformative redefinition

Istraživanje i dobiveni rezultati mogu pomoći nastavnicima u učinkovitijem oblikovanju nastave engleskoga jezika kao jezika struke, a posljedično i potaknuti daljnja istraživanja o općenitoj primjeni igrifikacije u visokome obrazovanju.Gamification, or the application of game elements in non-game contexts, is increasingly used in higher education with the aim of enhancing student motivation and engagement. Moodle is currently one of the most widely used open-source learning management systems, facilitating the delivery of course content, communication, and student progress tracking, while also enabling the integration of gamification into the teaching process. This study analyzes the impact of gamification on learning English for Specific Purposes (ESP) through the use of Moodle and its integrated plugin Level Up, which tracks student progress via a points-based leaderboard and awards them for advancing through predefined levels. The research involved 48 undergraduate students. Upon the completion of the course, ten highest-ranked students were selected to participate in a focus group, during which a semi-structured interview was conducted to gain in-depth insights into their perceptions of implementing gamification in the teaching process. The results of the qualitative analysis focus on understanding students’ experiences and perceptions, as well as the potential benefits and challenges of gamification in the process of learning ESP. The research findings may assist teachers in more effective designing ESP courses and may further serve as a foundation for future studies on the broader application of gamification in higher education

Reading is a complex process that refers to “the ability to extract information from a text and interpret it correctly”. It is also a process in which an intimate, emotional relationship with the text is established, engaging all the senses. The study aimed to examine the impact of manipulating the order of presentation of studies with opposing conclusions on the assessment of the accuracy of research. In this registered parallel experimental study, participants from the general population were randomly given descriptions of studies in which replications of psychological research produced results that showed either an effect or no effect for interventions, and were asked to assess the accuracy of the conclusions of the described studies. The study was conducted in a virtual environment. Analyses included 194 individuals, 97 in each experimental group. The intervention in this study consisted of different research conclusions randomly assigned to participants by the testing program. The results suggest that a higher percentage of participants who were shown a replication with a significant effect assessed the replication as more accurate compared to the initial research (n = 71, 73.20%), than participants who were shown a replication that did not show a statistically significant effect (n = 53, 54.64%). The results suggest a potential bias in the order of presentation when interpreting replication studies because the accuracy assessment depended on the findings of the research. Future qualitative research should investigate factors associated with the interpretation of replications

The Quality of Working Life in Croatia in the 2020s: Introducing the SUPERB Model of Job Quality

    No full text
Ovaj heuristički okvir integrira ključne teorije radne motivacije i identificira šest temeljnih dimenzija kvalitete poslova: Sigurnost, Rast i razvoj, Svrha, Osnaživanje, Odnosi i Ravnoteža. This study examines the quality of working life (QWL) in Croatia using two nationally representative samples of workers and introduces the SUPERB model of job quality. This heuristic framework integrates key work motivation theories, identifying six core job quality dimensions: Safety, Upgrading, Purpose, Empowerment, Relationships, and Balance. The findings from two studies conducted in 2023 and 2024 indicate generally moderate levels of job quality, with highlighting significant gaps in empowerment and career growth opportunities in Croatian workplaces. Importantly, job quality, as measured by the SUPERB model, predicted job satisfaction, work engagement, turnover intentions, and well-being, even after controlling for biographic variables further emphasising the importance of job quality. The results underscore the need for workplace interventions that enhance autonomy and skill development. By improving job quality, Croatia may better retain its workforce, reduce turnover intentions, and enhance overall well-being, contributing to long-term labour market outcomes and social stability

Understanding the Willingness to Pay for Ecotourism Services in Natural Waterfall Areas: An Empirical Study in Casanare, Colombia

    No full text
This study aims to determine visitors’ willingness to pay (WTP) for ecotourism services in the La Algarroba waterfall in Monterrey, Casanare, Colombia. We chose this location because it is part of a green corridor with a high potential for ecotourism. We estimated the willingness-to-pay (WTP) using the double-bounded dichotomous choice contingent valuation method. Our findings reveal that visitors participate more in ecotourism when they understand the flow of ecosystem benefits, when more income is generated for local communities, and when they have a higher opinion of public safety in the area. The latter is significant after the Colombian peace treaty

To ensure food security and mitigate environmental degradation caused by conventional farming, the adoption of sustainable production systems or practices is essential. Despite the availability of diverse sustainable agricultural practices, their widespread adoption remains limited. Thus, this study aimed to assess the importance of socioeconomic and socio-demographic characteristics of farmers, as well as farm characteristics, on their interest in transitioning to Sustainable Production Systems (SPS) or adopting Sustainable Agricultural Practices (SAP). Additionally, the study evaluated the motivational factors affecting farmers' WTA for some of the SPS or SAP in Istria County, Croatia. A survey was conducted on 172 farms in Istria County. The data were analysed using descriptive statistics, ANOVA to identify statistical differences, and chi-square tests to determine associations between variables. The results indicate that nearly half of the respondents were interested in transitioning to SAS or adopting SAP. Higher education levels significantly correlate with a greater interest in adopting SAS or SAP. When farmers were offered benefits such as financial support during the trial period, sales assistance, and product marketing, the WTA was significantly higher. Applying Rogers' Diffusion of Innovations (DOI) theory, the study highlights the importance of perceived relative advantage, compatibility, and trialability in adoption decisions. Despite the several limitations of this study, the findings underscore the need for integrated approaches combining education, financial incentives, and technical support to achieve widespread adoption of sustainable agriculture.
