Social Innovation of World Caf?: Holistic Practice of Chinese Wisdom and Western Knowledge
Elderly learning in the toy Clinic shop in Taiwan
[[abstract]]Due to the decrease in the birth rate and dramatically increase of the elderly in
Taiwan, social participations as well as intergeneration interactions become the major
approaches for elderly learning. Based on these concerns, the experimental project of
“Toy Clinic Shop in primary school” was initiated to enhance the lifelong learning of the
elderly. The project recognizes the unique experiences and abilities of the elderly and
provides the mechanisms of knowledge sharing and problem solving. From the
perspectives of learning, this study aims to explore the benefits of the elderly from
participating in the Toy Clinic Shop. In-depth interviews are used to collect data for the
analyses of this study.
The primary findings of this study are as follows: 1. Participating in Toy Clinic Shop
meet with the multiple needs of the elderly. 2. Participating in Toy Clinic Shop promote
the intergeneration interact experience for elderly.
Optical Characterization of Wurtzite Gallium Nitride Nanowires
[[abstract]]The optical properties of the gallium nitride(GaN)nanowires are examined by the transmission method in the ultraviolet-visible range (1–5 eV) and by the reflection method in the infrared range (500–4000 cm?1). The absorption edge of the GaNnanowires is blueshifted by 0.2 eV from the bulk edge. The temperature dependence of the energy gap is expressed by, Eg(T)=3.724?9.97×10?4/(861+T)?eV. The plasma frequency and the free-carrier density of the GaNnanowires, deduced from the infrared reflectance minima, are estimated to be ωp=1100±120?cm?1 and nf=3.73×1017?cm?3, respectively. Obtaining the free-carrier density from the infrared reflectance spectra is especially useful in research on nanostructured semiconductors.
