Simulation of the Lanzhou Penning Trap LPT
The LPT (Lanzhou Penning Trap) is under construction and its task is to perforin direct mass measurement of fusion-evaporation residue, and if possible for heavy isotopes. Detailed simulations have been clone for a good understanding to the ion's movement and mechanics in the trap. The optimizal ion of the LPT is also performed based on the simulation. With a scale of 0.5 mm per grid used in the, simulation and many other limitations a highest mass resolution has been achieved to be 1.9 x 10(-5). An unexpected behavioin in the simulation related to magnetron motion has been found.National Natural Science Foundation of China 10627504

Effect of p53 on lung carcinoma cells irradiated by carbon ions or X-rays
The study is to investigate the feasibility and advantages of heavy ion beams on radiotherapy. The cellular cycle and apoptosis, cell reproductive death and p53 expression evaluated with flow cytometry, clonogenic survival assays and Western blot analysis were examined in lung carcinoma cells after exposure to 89.63 MeV/u carbon ion and 6 MV X-ray irradiations, respectively. The results showed that the number colonyforming assay of A549 was higher than that of H1299 cells in two radiation groups; A549 cellular cycle was arrested in G(2)/M in 12 It and the percentage of apoptosis ascended at each time point of carbon ion radiation with doses, the expression of p53 upregulated with doses exposed to X-ray or carbon ion. The cell number in G(2)/M of H1299 and apoptosis were increasing at all time points with doses in C-12(6+) ion irradiation group. The results suggested that the effects of carbon ions or X rays irradiation on lung carcinoma cells were different, C-12(6+) ion irradiation could have more effect on upregulating the expression of p53 than X-ray, and the upregulated expression of p53 might produce the cellular cycle G(2)/M arrested, apoptosis increasing; and p53 gene might affect the lung cancer cells radiosensitivity.National Natural Science Foundation of China 10675151

Properties and structure of N = Z nuclei within relativistic mean field theory
The axially deformed relativistic mean field theory with the force NLSH has been performed in the blocked BCS approximation to investigate the proper-ties and structure of N=Z nuclei from Z=20 to Z=48. Some ground state quantities such as binding energies, quadrupole deformations, one/two-nucleon separation energies, root-mean-squaxe (rms) radii of charge and neutron, and shell gaps have been calculated. The results suggest that large deformations can be found in medium-heavy nuclei with N=Z=38-42. The charge and neutron rms radii increase rapidly beyond the magic number N=Z=28 until Z=42 with increasing nucleon number, which is similar to isotope shift, yet beyond Z=42, they decrease dramatically as the structure changes greatly from Z=42 to Z=43. The evolution of shell gaps with proton number Z can be clearly observed. Besides the appearance of possible new shell closures, some conventional shell closures have been found to disappear in some region. In addition, we found that the Coulomb interaction is not strong enough to breakdown the shell structure of protons in the current region.Natural Science Foundation of China 10775061

An introduction to the trapping of clusters with ion traps and electrostatic storage devices
This paper presents an introduction to the application of ion traps and storage devices for cluster physics. Some experiments involving cluster ions in trapping devices such as Penning traps, Paul traps, quadrupole or multipole linear traps are briefly discussed. Electrostatic ion storage rings and traps which allow for the storage of fast ion beams without mass limitation are presented as well. We also report on the recently developed mini-ring, a compact electrostatic ion storage ring for cluster, molecular and biomolecular ion studies.European Project ITS LEIF RII3/02601
High negative ion production yield in 30 keV F2+ + adenine (C5H5N5) collisions
In collisions between slow F2+ ions (30 keV) and molecular targets, adenine, scattered particle production yields have been measured directly by simultaneous detection of neutrals, positive and negative ions. The relative cross-section for a negative ion formation channel was measured to be 1%. Despite a slight decrease compared to a larger target, the fullerene C-60, the measured negative ion formation cross section is still at least one order of magnitude larger than the yield in ion-atom interactions.International Collaboration Convention CNRS in France Ndegrees21657

Microelements in Potato and Lily Samples Studied by Laser-Induced Breakdown spectroscopy Technology
A LIBS setup was built in the Institute of Modern Physics. In our experiments, LIBS spectra produced by infrared radiation of Nd : YAG nanosecond laser with 100 and 150 mJ pulse energy, respectively, were measured by fiber optic spectrometer in the ranges of 230-430 run and 430-1080 nm with a delay time of 1.7 and gate width of 2 ms for potato and lily samples prepared by vacuum freeze-dried technique. The lines from different metal elements such as K, Ca, Na, Mg, Fe, Al, Mn and Ti, and nonmetal elements such as C, N, O and H, and some molecular spectra from C-2, CaO, and CN were identified according to their wavelengths. The relative content of the six microelements, Ca, Na, K, Fe, Al, and Mg in the samples were analyzed according to their representative line intensities. By comparison we found that there are higher relative content of Ca and Na in lily samples and higher relative content of Mg in potato samples. The experimental results showed that LIBS technique is a fast and effective means for measuring and comparing the contents of microelements in plant samples
Speed of the internal pellet target in CSRm
Pellet target is one of the main candidate targets in CSRm (cooler storage ring’s main ring) for hadron physics studies. Pellet speed is an important physical parameter for the target. Larger pellet speed could shorten the interacting time interval between the pellet and the cyclotron beam, and thus results in a small temperature variation for the pellet. This could make the pellet facility work in a stable con-dition. A fluid dynamic simulation was carried out for the pellet speed, and it was found that the maxi-mum speed for the target pellet may be restricted to about 100 m/s even if all working parameters were set to their optimal values
