A través de un análisis crítico del discurso multimodal de los canales y videos más populares en la traducción de la Inteligencia emocional en YouTube, los resultados muestran que los discursos hegemónicos de la inteligencia emocional están muy vinculados a la autoayuda financiera y terapéutica, concluimos que los conocimientos psicopolíticos presentes en estos canales, son laboratorios de transformación personal que proporcionan tecnologías del yo para que cada individuo trabaje en un crecimiento personal alineado con el neoliberalismo, desde donde canalizan el malestar social interiorizándolo a través de la visualización del sí mismo como campo de batalla.In this written work, we explore the relationships between intelligece and power, understanding intelligence as a production structure and the hierarchisation of human's traist and capacities, which definition takes part in a development model that promotes specific forms of organization and body and society's molding. Through the crtitical anlysis of the multimodal discourse used in the most popular YouTube's channels and videos which talk about the translation of emotional intellience, the results of the this analysis show that the hegemonic discourses related to emotional intelligence are closely related to financial and therapeutic self-help, concluding that the psycho-politcal knowledge present in those channels, are personal change laboratories which provide technologies related to the self, so that each indivual is able to work on their own personal growth aligned with the neoliberalism, from which they are capable of focusing their social discomfort by internalising it through the visualization of the self as a battlefield

FPU2020-05293); Agència de Gestió d'Ajuts Universitaris i de Recerca.Purpose: Optimizing the training of endurance athletes involves the nuanced balance between overload and recovery. Monitoring recovery effectively requires integrating multiple variables. This study evaluates the efficacy of training protocols guided by vagally-mediated heart rate variability (vmHRV), resting heart rate (RHR), and subjective well-being (WB) scores in enhancing cycling performance. It also explores the relationships between physiological and subjective measures. Method: Twenty-eight experienced male cyclists were divided into three groups: vmHRV-only (Group 1), vmHRV+WB (Group 2), and vmHRV+WB+RHR (Group 3). Over 40 days, participants recorded daily vmHRV, RHR, and WB scores and followed customised training protocols. Pre- and post-intervention cycling tests assessed maximal power (Pmax), 1-min, 5-min, 20-min, and functional threshold power (FTPTM). Daily data analysis included correlation and autocorrelation function (ACF) assessments to evaluate trends and individual variability.Results: Across all groups, significant performance improvements were observed for 1-min, 5- min, 20-min, FTPTM, and FTPTM/kg. Group 3 showed the greatest improvements, particularly in 5-min and 20-min efforts (310.560 to 337.971 watts, and 260.955 to 284.564 watts, respectively). ACF revealed stress as having the highest day-to-day consistency among subjective measures. Individual correlations revealed diverse strengths of the relationships between physiological and subjective markers.Conclusion: Combining vmHRV, RHR, and WB offers a more nuanced assessment of athlete readiness and enhances training outcomes compared to vmHRV-only guidance. The study underscores the value of integrating physiological and subjective measures for personalising training protocols and highlights future directions for improving monitoring systems with advanced analytics

    Long term follow-up in 1 anti-contactin-1 autoimmune nodopathy

    Objective: To analyze long-term clinical and biomarker features of anti-contactin-1 (CNTN1) autoimmune nodopathy (AN). Methods: Patients with anti-CNTN1+ AN detected in our laboratory from which clinical information was available were included. Clinical features and treatment response were retrospectively collected. Autoantibody, serum neurofilament light (sNfL) and serum CNTN1 levels (sCNTN1) were analyzed at baseline and follow-up. Results: Thirty-one patients were included. Patients presented with progressive motor-sensory neuropathy (76.7%) with proximal (74.2%) and distal involvement (87.1%), ataxia (71.4%) and severe disability (median INCAT at nadir of 8)). Eleven patients (35%) showed kidney involvement. Most patients (97%) received IVIg but only one achieved remission with IVIg. Twenty-two patients (71%) received corticosteroids, and three of them (14%) did not need further treatments. Rituximab was effective in 21/22 patients (95.5%), with most of them (72%) receiving a single course. Four patients (12.9%) relapsed after a median follow-up of 25 months after effective treatment [12-48]. Anti-CNTN1 titers correlated with clinical scales at sampling and were negative after treatment in all patients but one (20/21). sNfL levels were significantly higher and sCNTN1 significantly lower in anti-CNTN1+ patients than in healthy controls (sNfL: 135.9 pg/mL vs 7.48 pg/mL, sCNTN1: 25.03 pg/mL vs 22186 pg/mL, p< 0.0001). Both sNfL and sCNTN1 returned to normal levels after successful treatment. Interpretation: Patients with anti-CNTN1+ AN have a characteristic clinical profile. Clinical and immunological relapses are infrequent after successful treatment, suggesting that continuous treatment is unnecessary. Anti-CNTN1 antibodies, sNfL and aCNTN1 levels are useful to monitor disease status and treatment efficacy in these patients

    El cómic en la formación lectora : una revisión bibliográfica en Educación Primaria

La data d'embargament que ara consta és provisional i es corregirà o s'eliminarà quan es publiqui la versió de l'editor.Esta revisión bibliográfica analiza la investigación educativa de tipo empírico que ha estudiado la integración del cómic en Educación Primaria durante el período 2000-2023. El análisis bibliográfico y sistemático de un corpus de 51 artículos de investigación ha permitido delimitar los temas, las aproximaciones teóricas y las opciones metodológicas que han predominado en el desarrollo de este ámbito de investigación en crecimiento exponencial. Así, los resultados de la revisión bibliográfica se presentan a partir de los cuatro ejestemáticos que han estructurado la investigación en este ámbito: el estudio del cómic como lenguaje narrativo diferenciado y las distintas nomenclaturas afines; la documentación de las perspectivas sobre el cómic en el contexto escolar, incluyendo alumnado, profesorado y otros mediadores literarios; el estudio sobre el lector infantil y su interacción con el cómic; y el estudio sobre la práctica escolar con cómic a nivel didáctico y literario. Más aún, el análisis ha permitido identificar los interrogantes, retos y necesidades que surgen respecto de la investigación futura en la intersección del cómic con la Educación Primaria. El estudio en este ámbito se dirige cada vez más a la investigación empírica y colaborativa situada en el contexto escolar para explorar el valor educativo y didáctico del cómic infantil en la escuela Primaria.This literature review focuses on empirical educational research aimed at understanding the integration of children's comics in Primary Education during the period 2000-2023. The systematic analysis of a corpus of 51 research articles has enabled the identification of the main topics, theories and methodologies that have prevailed in this exponentially growing research field. Thus, the knowledge gathered in this analysis is presented through the four thematic axes that have structured the research on this field: research on comics as a specific narrative language and the various related nomenclatures; research on the perspectives on comics in the context of the school, including students, teachers and other literary mediators; research on the child reader and their interaction with comics; and research on educational experiences with comics from a didactic and literary approach. Moreover, the analysis has allowed us to define the questions, challenges and needs for future research in the intersection of comics and Primary Education. Research in this field is moving towards empirical and collaborative studies located in the school context to explore the educational and didactic value of children's comics in Primary school

    Repeat Expansions in PLIN4 Cause Autosomal Dominant Vacuolar Myopathy With Sarcolemmal Features

La data d'embargament que ara consta és provisional i es corregirà o s'eliminarà quan es publiqui la versió de l'editor.Objective: We aim to describe and characterize two unrelated Spanish families suffering from an autosomal dominant autophagic vacuolar myopathy caused by repeat expansions in PLIN4. Methods: We evaluated the clinical phenotype and muscle imaging, and performed a genetic workup that included exome sequencing, muscle RNAseq, and long-read genome sequencing. Muscle pathology was assessed by means of histochemistry, electron microscopy, PLIN4, p62, LC3, and NBR1 immunofluorescence and/or western blotting. Detailed characterization of autophagic vacuoles was performed. Results: Patients presented around the age of 30 with mild proximal weakness followed by prominent distal weakness in lower legs, eventually spreading to other muscle groups. Muscle biopsies showed unique pathological features characterized by numerous rimmed vacuoles that displayed sarcolemmal features and were located beneath the sarcolemma and within the cytoplasm. Ultrastructural studies showed autophagic vacuoles, replications, and loops of the basal lamina and tubulofilamentous sarcoplasmic inclusions. p62 and NBR1 co-localized with PLIN4 at the sarcolemma and vacuoles. LC3 immunoreactivity and other lysosomal markers were increased at the vacuoles. Targeted long-read sequencing of PLIN4 in affected individuals revealed a single expanded allele of 39 × 99 bp repeats in family 1 and of 37 × 99 bp repeats in family 2. Interpretation: We characterize two new families suffering from an autosomal dominant myopathy carrying repeat expansions in PLIN4. Subsarcolemmal p62 expression is a powerful although nonspecific marker of this disease. No correlation between the size of the expansion and clinical severity can be clearly established. PLIN4 expansions should be considered in the diagnosis of autosomal dominant vacuolar myopathies, especially when sarcolemmal features are present

    Results of a new patch to externally reinforce colorectal anastomosis: an experimental study

    Background: Anastomotic leak (AL) is a serious complication in colorectal surgery, associated with increased morbidity, mortality, and healthcare costs. Technological advances have yet to eliminate AL, which occurs from 5 to 14% of cases involving anastomosis. This study introduces and evaluates a new collagen-cyanoacrylate patch designed to externally reinforce colonic anastomoses with the aim to contain anastomotic leaks. The objective of the study is to evaluate the feasibility and safety of a novel collagen-cyanoacrylate patch to reinforce colonic anastomosis in a porcine model. Materials and Methods: A preclinical study adhering to Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) was conducted on 12 Landrace x Large White pigs. Following a previously validated model for a deficient anastomosis, a 21mm defect was created at a colorectal anastomosis to simulate an AL. Pigs were randomized to receive either reinforcement with the collagencyanoacrylate patch or no reinforcement. Safety and feasibility were assed, analyzing the integration of the patch in colorectal structures. In addition, as a secondary outcomes, we assessed clinical monitoring, behavioral observations, blood tests for inflammatory markers and histopathological analysis. Results: The collagen-cyanoacrylate patch was easily applied, adhered effectively to the bowel surface, successfully sealed the defect, and was naturally degraded during the healing process. No significant differences in stenosis or adhesions were observed between the experimental and control groups, although minor variations in inflammatory and infectious markers were noted. All animals exhibited a 100% survival rate, and no clinical signs of AL were observed. Conclusions: The use of collagen-cyanoacrylate patch is feasible, safe, and has good clinical outcomes, showing promise in preventing colonic AL. Further studies using an adequate anastomotic leak model or clinical studies are needed to confirm efficacy

    Evaluation of blood cytotoxicity against tumor cells using a live-cell imaging platform

    Cellular cytotoxicity is an important mechanism of the immune system to clear infections and eliminate tumor cells. Its two main mediators are cytotoxic T lymphocytes and natural killer (NK) cells. In lung cancer, intratumoral NK cells show reduced cytolytic potential and one third of patients do not express HLA-I proteins, which activate NK cells in a process termed "absent self-recognition". In this work, we investigate NK cytotoxicity as a potential oncological biomarker that informs patient status and predicts response to treatment. We describe a simple and rapid test to analyze NK cytotoxicity without the need for large volumes of blood, requiring short processing time and reduced use of both reagents and blood samples, using the IncuCyte live imaging technique

    Exercise-Based Prehabilitation for Kidney Transplant Candidates: The FRAILMar Randomized Controlled Trial

This study evaluated the effects of an exercise-based prehabilitation program on exercise capacity, muscle function, and muscle size among KT candidates. Study Design: Analysis of functional outcomes within the FRAILMar study, a randomized controlled trial. Setting & Participants: 121 KT candidates on the KT waiting list. Intervention: The intervention group participated in a prehabilitation program comprising 24 exercise sessions (1 hour, 3 times per week for 8 weeks), the control group received standard care. Randomization was stratified by frailty status. Outcomes: The primary outcome was exercise capacity assessed by maximal workload during a cardiopulmonary exercise test. Secondary outcomes included peripheral muscle function, respiratory muscle function, muscle size, and changes in frailty status. Results: The mean age of the 121 individuals who were randomized was 63.4 years, 76% were men, and 40% were frail (Fried phenotype ≥ 2). 106 patients completed the prehabilitation program and, among them, compared to standard care, prehabilitation significantly improved exercise capacity (+12.8 watts; [95% CI: 3.4 to 22.2]; p=0.008), handgrip strength (+1.8 kg; [95% CI: 0.7 to 2.8]; p<0.001), and rectus femoris thickness (+1.2 mm; [95% CI: 0.3 to 2.0]; p=0.007). Frail patients showed significant improvements across most measures, demonstrating potential benefits for this subgroup. Limitations: This analysis was limited by a short follow-up period and the risk of type I error due to multiple comparisons, even though outcomes were pre-specified. Conclusions: An 8-week exercise-based prehabilitation program may improve KT candidates' exercise capacity, muscle function, and muscle size, effects also observed among frail patients. These findings may inform future research in this area and the evaluation of the value of standardized prehabilitation protocols

    Artificial Intelligence (AI) assisted measurement of glucose, sodium, and potassium concentrations in diluted aqueous solutions using microwaves

    This letter proposes an artificial intelligence (AI)-driven noninvasive and contactless microwave sensor capable of determining the composition of aqueous solutions containing three different components: glucose, sodium (Na+), and potassium (K+). The sensing element is a one-port microstrip transmission line loaded with a pair of unequal three-turn complementary spiral resonators (CSRs) etched in the ground plane, as well as a capillary that drives the liquid under test (LUT) to the sensing region (i.e., the slots of the CSR). The two CSRs provide a rich frequency response (reflection coefficient), with many singularities (magnitude notches and phase jumps) over a broad frequency band that are necessary to selectively determine the concentration of the different solute components by virtue of their different dispersive behavior. The complete sensor includes the necessary mechanical accessories to implement an automated system with a liquid pump as well as temperature and fluid control. The system analyzes the renormalized S11 response to quantify the variations generated by the different components of the solution, demonstrating a high capacity of detecting their presence and reliably predicting their concentrations. A convolutional neural network (CNN) with a multilayer perceptron (MLP) maps the renormalized reflection coefficient spectra to solute concentrations. Validated on binary to quaternary mixtures, the method yields mean absolute errors of 8.2 mg/dL (glucose), 6.8 mg/dL (Na+), and 1.2 mg/dL (K+), enabling real-time quantification in complex solutions. This modular approach supports scalable dataset generation and adaptable AI training pipelines for other solutes and liquid matrices

    Comparative inflammatory and immune effects of pollution in asthmatics and healthy subjects

    Introduction: The objective of this study was to assess the inflammatory and immunological responses in asthmatic patients and healthy controls exposed to a polluted or a non-polluted environment during a short-term period. Material and methods: Randomized crossover study in patients with asthma (n = 20), and in healthy controls (n = 15). Participants were exposed for 2 hours to a polluted environment and, after 14 days, to a non-polluted environment. At each exposure, pollution levels were assessed. Subsequently, serum levels of 8-isoprostane and glutathione peroxidase were measured as markers of oxidative stress as well as 48 inflammatory and immune response cytokines. Results: In the polluted environment, significantly higher levels of PM1, PM10, NO2, NO and CO were observed (p=0.0026, 0.0337, <0.0001, <0.0001 and 0.0004 respectively) than in the non polluted environment. After exposure to a polluted environment, both groups (healthy controls and asthmatic patients) presented higher values of IL17F (p= 0.0285 and 0.0348 respectively) and CSF2 (p= 0.0425 and 0.0305 respectively). Healthy controls presented reductions in glutathione peroxidase (with antioxidant activity) (p=0.0038), CSF3, HGF and OSM (p= 0.0123, 0.0353 and 0.0256 respectively) and increased levels of IL7, CXCL8 and CCL2 (p= 0.0015, 0.0119 and 0.0215 respectively) after exposure to high levels of pollution. Asthmatic patients had higher serum levels of IL1b and IL15 (p= 0.0232 and 0.0497 respectively). Conclusion: Healthy individuals and asthmatics present different responses to exposure to pollutants. In healthy individuals, there is an adaptive suppression of immune activity. Conversely, asthmatics present a more marked inflammatory response
