An Investigation into employee engagement and its impact on organisational performance: an employee’s perspective
The purpose of this study was to investigate the impact of employee engagement at
the Construction Education and Training Authority (CETA). The study will be guided
by the following research questions: What is the impact of employee engagement on
the organization’s performance? Which factors are affecting employee engagement
levels? What recommendations can be offered to improve employee engagement at
public sector organisations? A questionnaire comprising closed-ended questions and
responses rated on a 5-point Likert scale, was administered to respondents through
the ‘drop and pick’ method; with a descriptive approach used to analyse data collected
with the measurement instrument, to allow conclusions to be drawn. Data coding was
followed by data presentation via tables and figures. Quantitative data collected were
analysed using the Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) software and
presented through percentages, means, standard deviations and frequencies.
The public entity referred to as CETA has been burdened by operational and people
issues. Overall, the organisation is essentially locked in underperformance. It is
suggested the situation could improve should employee engagement levels be
enhanced. The survey was administered to 50 CETA employees. The central
argument in the research is that employee engagement is critical in determining
employee, and organisational performance.
Findings reveal low employee engagement levels that, consequently, result in belowstandard performance by the majority employees. The fundamental point of the
research is that employee engagement is crucial in determining employee and
organisational performance. The findings indicate low employee engagement levels
at the CETA, which results in low performance levels among the majority employees.
Although attempts have been made to improve the work environment and employee
motivation, recent interventions have been insufficient
The perceptions of nursing students regarding the innovative teaching and learning strategies used in biological and natural sciences courses at a nursing college
Biological Nursing Sciences (BNS) is one of the fundamental subjects taught in the first
year and second year of study in Nursing Education and training. Most students are
struggling with the subject therefore, lecturers use different teaching and learning
strategies to try and improve students’ performance in the subject. The students were
involved in Multiple Intelligence Approaches, Flipped classrooms, Jigsaw puzzles, and
online teaching and learning methods. The purpose of the study was to explore the
perceptions of the third- and fourth-year nursing students’ regarding innovative teaching
and learning strategies in the Biological and Natural Sciences course. The study was
conducted at a Nursing College in Gauteng. The researcher used a non-experimental
quantitative descriptive research design. The non-probability convenience sampling
strategy was used to select the participants who met the inclusion criteria.
Data was collected using a self-administered questionnaire, consisting of closed-ended
questions. The software programme, Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS)
version 25 was used for data analysis. The findings revealed that the preferred method
of teaching and learning were the jigsaw group discussion and multiple intelligence
approach. However, Zoom as an e-learning teaching platform was found not to be a
preferred strategy for teaching and learning. The findings also revealed that innovative
teaching strategies motivate students to study and seek more information.M.A. (Health Studies)Health Studie
Developmental trends in Setswana literature
A Marxist literary theory is used in this study. The aim of this study is to evaluate some Setswana novels using a developmental approach. The time frame of this study will extend from the time the missionaries came to South Africa until 1994. Karl Marx's background has been discussed. The following Marxist models are explained, i.e. reflection model, production model, genetic model, negative knowledge model and language centred models. An explanation of some Marxist concepts, e.g. ideology, dialectic, base, superstructure, reification and alienation have been given (Chapter 1 ). Three Marxist models are used, namely reflection, production and genetic. These models are used in the discussion of Mokwena. Rammone wa Kgalagadi and Motimedi. The study hi ghlights how missionaries manipulated Setswana literary creativity in an attempt to promote Christianity and how some Setswana authors resisted the attempt to make Setswana literature instruments for Christianising people (Chapter 2).
The development of the follow tng novels. Sephaphatt Matlhoko Matlhoko and Masego are discussed Three Marxtst models are utili sed 1n the evaluation of these novels namely reflection, productio n and genet1c although the Government also harness ed Setsw ana literary creativity in an attempt t o promote their ideology, some Setswana authors nevertheless res1sted these attempts by the government (Chapter 3 ) . Explanation of the findings of the aim of the study is given. Mokwena pnmarily addresses 1ts Christtan readers (Batswana) Rammone wa Kgalagadi highlights the trad1t1onal world and westerntsed Christian world. Motimedi focuses on hardships expenenced by Blacks. though Christianity also plays a role when the ma1n character 1s converted Sephaphati f ocuses on the Christ1an world and the w esternised world. Matlhoko Matlhoko highlights the implementation of th e segregation acts in South A fnca before 1994. Masego focuses on the impact of the oppressive laws of South Afnca pnor to 1994 The conclus1on illustrates how Setswana authors were influenced by th e1r traditional. cultural, relig ious and soc1o-econom1c background in writing the novels that I have evaluated (Chapter 4).M.A. (African Languages)African Language
An evaluation of the strengths and weaknesses of South Africa’s corporate rescue regime as a potential benchmark for Uganda
This thesis evaluates the strengths and weaknesses of the legal framework on
corporate rescue in South Africa and Uganda. Although corporate rescue was initially not one of the
objectives of insolvency law, it has now become the focus of modern insolvency law. South Africa
became the first country to recognise the need to create a legal framework for rehabilitating
financially distressed companies when it incorporated judicial management in the Companies Act of
1926. Judicial management was, however, not successful as a corporate rescue procedure. The South
African policy makers however continued to explore ways through which financially distressed but
viable companies could be saved from collapsing. This culminated into the introduction of business
rescue in Chapter 6 of the Companies Act
71 of 2008.
The study presents a detailed analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of the South African
business rescue framework. It posits that unlike the Ugandan system, the South Africa legal regime
reflects the principles of a modern and effective corporate rescue system.
Whereas the government of Uganda attempted to embrace corporate rescue through the introduction of administration in the Insolvency Act 2011, the law is devoid of the internationally recognised features of a modern and effective business rescue framework. Administration has remained a white elephant in Uganda’s insolvency system, with liquidation continuing to be the predominant procedure used by both creditors and financially distressed companies. It is recommended that Uganda’s policy makers should benchmark the South African system to reform Uganda’s corporate rescue framework.
This thesis is based on the law as at 31st of May 2022, found in the sources available in South Africa and Uganda.LL. D. (Mercantile Law)Mercantile La
The relationship between cash flow and share prices of general mining firms listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange
Abstracts in English, Afrikaans and ZuluThe purpose of this research was to investigate the relationship between cashflows and the share prices of the 12 general mining firms listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) from 2015 to 2020. Empirical data were collected from the Iress (SA) database and the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 25 was used to analyse the cashflows and share prices of the mining firms. The study applied an in-depth regression analysis using the pooled OLS model, fixed and random effects models, and the FGLS model and found only the latter model to fit the data favourably. The Agency Theory, the Free Cash Flow (FCF) Hypothesis, and the Financial Leverage Theory provided a basis for the study’s theoretical framework.
Based on the study findings, the nature of the relationship between cashflows and share prices is dependent on the cashflow type. The study highlighted that cashflows from investment and financing activities had a statistically significant relationship with the share prices at a 1% significance level. However, the study findings showed a statistically insignificant association between cashflows from operating activities and the share price of the 12 general mining companies listed on the JSE between 2015 and 2020.
Based on the study findings, one of the major recommendations is that general mining firms should prioritise cashflows from investing and financing activities since these types of cashflows have a significant impact on their share prices.
Inhloso yalolu cwaningo bekuwukuphenya ubudlelwano phakathi kokugeleza kwemali kanye namanani ezabelo ezinkampani ezijwayelekile zezimayini eziyi-12 ezisohlwini lweJohannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) kusukela ngo-2015 kuya -2020. Investigating how stigma AIDS the spread of HIV infections among young women in Johannesburg and possible interventions to ameliorate the problem
This was a qualitative case study exploring and describing the role that stigma plays
in the spread of HIV among young women between the ages of 18 and 24.
The study locale was Johannesburg, South Africa. The social ecology model and radical
feminism were adopted as the conceptual framework for the study. Data were
collected through interviews with thirteen young women. This study intended to
explore and describe HIV-related stigma, as experienced by young women living with
HIV. The major findings of the study were that (a) all the participants were familiar with
the notion of stigma and held the view that it made many young women vulnerable to
infection; (b) stigma kept many people living with HIV (PLHIV) from accessing
prevention and destigmatisation intervention programmes, as well as healthcare
facilities and services; (c) there were currently very few HIV reduction and
destigmatisation intervention programmes in their communities; (d) intervention
programmes could be strengthened by involving PLHIV in the planning and execution
of such programmes, as well as utilising HIV positive experts and (e) extant stigma
prevention and destigmatisation programmes could be strengthened at family, clinics,
hospitals and community levels. It is concluded that the study has made an important
contribution towards closing the literature gap in the paucity of studies on the personal
is in Johannesburg, Suid-Afrika onderneem.
Data is ingesamel

3.6 duidelik uiteengesit. Die steekproefmonster is deur maksimum-variasie steekproefneming gedoen. Die navorsingsmetode is as kwalitatief geïdentifiseer (par. 5.1). 4). Die dataversamelingstegniek was diepgaande ongestruktureerde onderhoude (par. 5.3). Daarna was daar ʼn bespreking oor die data-analise en aanbiedingsprosedures (par. 5.4).
Abstracts in English, Zulu and SesothoDespite policy measures aimed at improving the performance of commercial banks
and their contribution to economic growth, little progress has been made in reviving
the Zimbabwean economy. The effective function of banking as an essential sector in
Zimbabwe is crucial to the promotion of the economic growth of the country. To
achieve this objective, the study used agriculture, manufacturing, mining, individuals,
finance and other sectors as independent variables using monthly data. The previous
empirical examination of the connection of the relationship is anchored on aggregate
economic growth (proxied GDP), on the assumption that each economic sector
responds similarly to GDP. However, the degree of credit utilisation and productivity
of credit may not homogeneously remain the same across sectors. Therefore, this
study seeks to contribute to the literature by examining the interaction between bank
lending through sectoral credit allocation (SCA) and economic growth. The study
employed the Augmented Dickey-Fuller (ADF) to test for stationarity in the time series.
Johansen cointegration, the vector autoregressive model and the vector error
correction model were used to identify the long-run and short-run dynamics among
variables. The Granger causality test was used to determine the causal direction. In
the context of this study, monthly time series data were used to examine the interaction
between sectors of the economy and economic growth in Zimbabwe during the period
2010–2021. The study used secondary data from the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe
(RBZ). As a result, ADF has been enhanced.
The Johansen cointegration test, on the other hand, demonstrated a long-run link
between the variables. Credit allocation to the agriculture, industrial, and mining
sectors grew the economy, but credit allocation to individuals, the banking industry, and other sectors did not. The findings imply that policymakers, government, and
financial regulators must promote financial allocation to agriculture, mining and
manufacturing as critical for economic transformation. The banks must ensure that
more credits flow to the mining, manufacturing, and agricultural sectors to promote
growth for all economic sectors. Understanding the relationship between SCA and
economic growth is critical, as it informs authorities to properly allocate resources and
obtain proportionate returns.Naphezu kwezinyathelo zengqubomgomo ezihlose ukuthuthukisa ukusebenza

Nurse facilitators' perception regarding the facilitation of the development of clinical reasoning skills
An important requirement for the professional nurse in South Africa is to formulate an individual
care plan based on the presenting data of a patient. This plan aims to treat the current condition
of a patient, as well as prevent further complications surrounding the condition. To rationalise
the decision made, a professional nurse needs to apply clinical reasoning skills. A student nurse
needs to acquire nursing skills during their training. The nurse facilitator is one of the role
players to facilitate the clinical reasoning skills (CRS) of nurse students. It was, therefore
important, to describe the nurse facilitator’s perception regarding the facilitation of the
development of CRS of nurse students.
The study aims to describe the nurse facilitator’s perceptions, opportunities, experienced during
the facilitation of the development of CRS of students as well as their recommendations for
better support in their task to facilitate CRS of students. Describing these perceptions,
contributed to the formulation of recommendations to support the nurse facilitator in their role, to
develop CRS in nurse students.
A qualitative descriptive research design was utilised, using four open-ended questions
embedded online through an organised file storage system developed by Google. A total of 53
nurse facilitators employed by a private nurse institute in South Africa were positively targeted.
Data collection occurred over three weeks. The results uncovered four themes: Theory and
practice integration; Resources; Student responsiveness and Facilitator competencies and eight
(8) sub-themes namely: Theoretical knowledge; Scientific nurse process; Human resources;
Physical resources; Lack of time for facilitation; Individual experience; Lack of like skills and
Continuous Professional Development.
The findings revealed the nurse facilitators’ accurate interpretation of the concept of CRS. The challenges experienced by the nurse facilitators that hinder the facilitation of the development of
CRS of nurse students concurred with that described by the literature. The facilitators expressed
creativity in the utilisation of opportunities when facilitating the development of CRS of students.
Finally, they described needed support to assist them to facilitate the development of CRS of
students.M.A. (Nursing Science)Health Studie
Stakeholder Challenges Impeding Attainment of Blue Flag Status at Eastern Beach in East London, South Africa
This research explores the challenges faced by public and private stakeholders at Eastern Beach in East London,
that are preventing attainment of Blue Flag status. Blue Flag beaches are a major tourism drawcard, yet the Eastern
Cape province of South Africa is facing obstacles that impede achievement of this ecolabel. To investigate this,
the paper focuses on Eastern beach. Twenty public and private stakeholders involved in coastal planning and
management in East London participated in individual virtual semi-structured interviews. Through thematic
analysis, key themes were identified. Findings indicate that public control, safety and security as well as
infrastructure are key challenges. Environmental management also requires attention as several negative impacts
prevail. Furthermore, the need for concerted stakeholder coordination in the drive toward Blue Flag status
emerged as a necessity. Considering the potential of Eastern Beach, it would be favourable to East London to
have this beach accredited. It would enhance sustainable tourism development with its positive economic, social
and environmental impacts. The identification of the challenges can assist stakeholders in moving towards this
status. These findings could also apply to managers at other beaches that are aiming to attain, maintain or regain
Blue Flag accreditation.Transport Economics, Logistics and Touris
