Measurement of the CP properties of Higgs boson interactions with τ -leptons with the ATLAS detector
Abstract
A study of the charge conjugation and parity (
CP
) properties of the interaction between the Higgs boson and
τ
-leptons is presented. The study is based on a measurement of
CP
-sensitive angular observables defined by the visible decay products of
τ
-leptons produced in Higgs boson decays. The analysis uses 139 fb

TeV with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. Contributions from
CP

τ
-leptons are described by a single mixing angle parameter

Organisational capabilities as competitive strategies for financial performance of business process outsourcing firms in Mauritius
The main aim of the study was to gauge the possible influence of financial performance on the sustainability of firms that operate in the BPO sector in Mauritius. The impact of internal capability on profitability, and the effects of asset efficiency on firm performance were analysed through quantitative approaches to gain insight into the financial performance of the BPO firms. Firm-level indicators were utilised to measure the potential relationship between firm characteristics and performance. The regression model identified that return on assets has an impact on net profit margin and the firm size is also statistically significant and positively related to net profit margin. Furthermore, return on equity, current assets, current liabilities and firm size have a significant effect on return on assets. The findings indicate that human talent with the right skills and investment in technology play integral roles in the success of the Mauritian BPO sector.M. Com. Perceptions of the significant others living with an adult family member experiencing reoccurring relapse from substance use : a social work perspective
The use of substances is a big challenge globally. Despite prevention, treatment, and aftercare programmes to eradicate this phenomenon, individuals often relapse within months after completing their treatment. The recurring relapses are not only costly to the country, but they also affect the health of the family members of users who experience tension, uncertainty, and anxiety to such an extent that it becomes life-threatening. The continuous consumption of substances leads to addiction, and this causes more stress and discord within the family.
The purpose of this study was to explore, identify, and describe the perceptions of significant others living with an adult family member experiencing reoccurring relapse from substance misuse. This study was found that service users experiencing reoccurring relapse because of numerous factors such as the absence of the parents in their lives, lack of motivation and direction, unemployment, and peer pressure. Therefore, the study recommended that inpatient centre should offer better services and it also eradicate self- discharge policy, and it should improve security services because service users are using while in the centre.
Fourteen women and three men participated in the study. The researcher gathered data by conducting face-to-face interviews with the participants. Data were analysed thematically. Furthermore, data verification and theoretical frameworks were used. The ethical issues involved when conducting the research, namely informed consent, anonymity, confidentiality, avoidance of harm, and management of information. Lastly, the researcher proffered recommendations on the findings.M.A. (Social Work)Social Wor
Exploring implementation of the ideal clinic realisation and maintenance programme in KwaZulu-Natal rural PHC facilities
South African rural communities depend on Primary Health Care services. Ideal Clinic Realisation and Maintenance programme is implemented to improve quality of Primary Health Care services. A qualitative case study design was used to explore the Ideal Clinic Realisation and Maintenance programme’s implementation in public Primary Health Care facilities in a rural KwaZulu-Natal sub-district. Eight senior health managers and seven professional nurses were interviewed.
Four themes were developed, including the organisation, barriers, facilitators and recommendations for Ideal Clinic Realisation and Maintenance programme’s implementation in a rural context. Data suggested challenges in rural Primary Health Care such as sub-optimal infrastructure, growing disease burden and resource shortage. Successful implementation of Ideal Clinic Realisation and Maintenance programme requires stakeholder support, communication and teamwork. The study’s findings can be utilised to improve implementation of Ideal Clinic Realisation and Maintenance programme in Primary Health Care, facilitate Primary Health Care re-engineering and achieve universal health coverage.M. Joy as an aspect of the spirituality of patient care volunteers at the Cancer Association of South Africa: a multi-dimensional approach
Text in English with summaries in English and AfrikaansThe purpose of this study was to address the tension between CANSA’s two
governance core pillars, namely service delivery and sustainability, by introducing
spiritual transformation understood as restoration of the Divine-human relationship
towards new opportunities, possibilities, and initiatives. The focus of this study was on
the link between spiritual transformation and the service of volunteers in cancer patient
care. A holistic view on health care was proposed in order to promote ‘spiritual
wholeness’ in healthcare transformation. A quadrangular multidimensional approach
examined the origins and scope of joy as an aspect of spiritual transformation in the
societal (CANSA), Theological (Qohelet), healthcare1 sciences as well as African2
spiritual epistemology. It was argued that CANSA’s holistic vision should be viewed as
a process of joymotion. Lessons learned can be utilised to shape and sharpen
CANSA’s Patient care volunteers if adapted towards being human in healthcare.
spirituele transformasie ondersoek – in sosiale (KANSA), teologiese (Qohelet),
gesondheidsorg wetenskappe, sowel as Afrika spirituele epistemologie. Verder is
geargumenteer dat ‘n vreugdeproses in KANSA se holistiese visie onderskei moet
word. Insigte kan KANSA se Pasiëntsorg vrywilligers help vorm en slyp wat sal bydra
tot meer menslikheid in gesondheidsorg.
“The world cannot be discovered by a journey of miles, no matter how long, but only by a
spiritual journey, a journey of one inch, very arduous and humbling and joyful,
by which we arrive at the ground at our own feet and learn to be at home”

The influence of reasonableness in determining delictual or tort liability for emotional distress or mental harm in American and French Law
American and French law, like South African law, recognises
claims for emotional or mental harm. Emotional, mental or
psychological harm was recognised by the courts only in the
nineteenth century and even though the mind and body in a
sense are considered as a unit, these types of claims are not on
a par with claims for physical bodily injury. Finding delictual or
tort liability for emotional, mental or psychological harm has been
problematic not only in South Africa but also in the United States
of America and France. Even though there are fundamental
differences in the law between these jurisdictions, the broader
questions the courts face is whether a claimant is entitled to
claim, the amount of damages that should be awarded and how
to limit liability with this type of claim. Limiting liability for
emotional or mental harm is generally the main concern but the
courts have found ways of using the elements of a delict or tort,
or concepts such as reasonable foreseeability of harm to limit the
claims. American, French and South African law recognise
claims for emotional, mental or psychological harm sustained by
primary and secondary victims. Thus emotional, mental or
psychological harm caused directly or indirectly is compensable.
In American and French law the concept of reasonableness
plays an important role, whether it be implicit or explicit, in
determining delictual or tort liability for the emotional or mental
harm sustained. In a sense, reasonableness also plays an
overarching role in determining liability. The influence of
reasonableness in determining delictual or tort liability for
psychiatric or psychological harm in English and South African
law will be discussed in a forthcoming contribution. In this
contribution the focus is on the influence of reasonableness in
determining delictual or tort liability for emotional or mental harm
in American and French law.College of La
Exclusive dielectron production in ultraperipheral Pb+Pb collisions at s NN = 5.02 TeV with ATLAS
Abstract
Exclusive production of dielectron pairs, γγ → e+e−, is studied using
L
int
= 1.72 nb−1 of data from ultraperipheral collisions of lead nuclei at
s
NN
= 5.02 TeV recorded by the ATLAS detector at the LHC. The process of interest proceeds via photon–photon interactions in the strong electromagnetic fields of relativistic lead nuclei. Dielectron production is measured in the fiducial region defined by following requirements: electron transverse momentum
p
T
e
> 2.5 GeV, absolute electron pseudorapidity |ηe| 5 GeV, and dielectron transverse momentum
p
T
ee
< 2 GeV. Differential cross-sections are measured as a function of mee, average
p
T
e
, absolute dielectron rapidity |yee|, and scattering angle in the dielectron rest frame, |cos θ*|, in the inclusive sample, and also with a requirement of no activity in the forward direction. The total integrated fiducial cross-section is measured to be

μb. Within experimental uncertainties the measured integrated cross-section is in good agreement with the QED predictions from the Monte Carlo programs Starlight and SuperChic, confirming the broad features of the initial photon fluxes. The differential cross-sections show systematic differences from these predictions which are more pronounced at high |yee| and |cos θ*| values
Attitudes of church leaders towards congregants taking antiretroviral therapy in Vhembe District, Limpopo, South Africa
Purpose: The study aimed at exploring church leaders' attitudes towards congregants who are taking antiretroviral therapy in the Vhembe District.
Research Design: A qualitative research approach with an exploratory, descriptive design was used.
Setting: The proposed research was conducted in the Vhembe District of Limpopo Province.
Population: The study population was church leaders and congregants of registered churches registered in the Vhembe District.
Sampling: The non-probability purposive sampling was used to select church leaders and congregants. The sample size was determined by data saturation.
Data collection and analysis methods: In-depth semi-structured interviews were utilised to collect data. Thematic analysis was done using Tesch's eight steps.
Results: A total of 30 participants, consisting of 24 church congregants and six church leaders participated. From the thematic analysis, church leaders’ attitudes were positive and negative. Positive attitudes included encouragement, while negative attitudes included judgemental attitudes, lack of acceptance and faith- based healing versus taking antiretroviral therapy. Stigma and discrimination took the form of labelling and exclusion and participants recommended information sharing and involvement of the Department of Health in training.M.P.H. School governing bodies’ experiences of managing school finances in primary schools, Limpopo Province
The research examined school governing bodies’ (SGBs) experiences in overseeing the budget at Malamulele Northeast Circuit Primary Schools in Limpopo Province. Prior to the birth of democracy in 1994, the educational system was highly controlled, and the credibility of governmental power was low. Following the establishment of democracy, the educational system became decentralised, and schools were given greater autonomy over decision-making to align with the South African Schools Act (SASA) No. 84 of 1996. It was highlighted that several schools had inadequate financial management when the system was decentralised. This study presents findings from a qualitative inquiry into the root causes of inefficient finance management in schools in Malamulele Northeast Circuit. The schools included in this study were chosen purposefully. For this research, three schools from the Malamulele Northeast Circuit were chosen. The researcher conducted face-to-face interviews and data analysis with the secretaries and treasurers of the SGB chairpersons as part of the data collection process. According to the study's findings, inadequate basic training for newly elected SGB members and illiteracy play a role in the maladministration of school funds. The researcher suggests that the agency emphasises enforcing adult education and training programmes for parents. It is encouraged to give retirees with good qualifications and financial expertise preference when electing new SGB members. This investigation had several other flaws as well.M. Ed. Thabo Mbeki: an intellectual biography
Generally, this study contributes toward efforts to privilege African thinkers and
scholars who have been and continue to be the victim of epistemic closure and
silencing by Western (Euro-North American) scholarship and epistemic practice. This
is framed through the intellectual biography of Thabo Mbeki in order to bring to the
fore the evidence that could be used to advance this argument. The engagement with
Mbeki's intellectual thought and ideas is approached from four different entry points
and perspectives. Firstly, this study traces and locates the historical and intellectual
context of Mbeki within the black intellectual tradition finding its roots in the New Africa
Movement (1862-1960) of the nineteenth century, consisting of religious leaders,
teachers, writers, and graduates who used the acquisition of modern colonial
education to identify themselves as New Africans (specifically New African
intellectuals). Secondly, it provides that Mbeki’s intellectual thought is a product of the
teachings and examples of the liberation movement’s leaders within the ANC, an
organisation steeped in rich intellectual tradition and thought leadership. Third is the
travel of the world which exposed Mbeki to the Western education and liberal political
tradition in Britain, the communist training and Marxist-Lenin political thought in the
Soviet Union, as well as African political thought acquired during the period spent in
Africa. Finally, this includes a critical analysis of Mbeki’s thoughts and perspectives on
politics, ideas, and power, as the three thematic areas of this study in order to
understand the thrust of Mbeki’s intellectual thought. Read together, these aspects not
only contextualise and position Mbeki as an intellectual that he is, but they also reflect
his intellectual dimensions and contribution to the body of knowledge. It should be
noted that the intellectual thought of Mbeki and his political ideas can be convincing
and not convincing depending on the position from which the truth is being looked at from. In the main, this study seeks to position, privilege, and defend Mbeki as a political
intellectual that he is.Ph. D. (Sociology)Sociolog
