Structure and Properties of Liquid Crystal Modifier and Layered Silicate Containing Polymer Hybrid Composites
Influence of Chitosan Content on Surface Activity of Lignin-Based Polyelectrolyte Complex
Bio-based Natural Fibre Reinforced Green Composites
The main goal of the presented study is the
development of industrial hemp fibre reinforced biocomposites.
Matrix materials used are as follows: thermoplastic starch based
systems, blends of biodegradable polymers – poly(vinylalcohol)
and microbially produced polyester polyhydroxybutyrate. The
correlation among hemp fibre content, matrix composition and
characteristics of biocomposites has been demonstrated.
Hydrophobic finishing of reinforced biocomposites with Rucostar
DDD diminishes moisture absorption. Biodegradation of
biocomposites has been found to be composition dependent
Risks Matrixes - Risks Assessment Tools of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises
The enterprises need to assess the risk dynamic of financial instability and this risk impact on small and medium-sized enterprises’ development, because it is important for enterprises to extend commercial activity and to open a new structural subdivision. The authors have researched types of risks, their identification, classification and assessment possibilities in activities of small and medium-sized enterprises. The authors have used the own created algorithm of identification, classification and assessment of enterprises’ risks.
The goal of the research is to study the economic and financial risks impact on small and medium-sized enterprises’ development in Latvia. The authors have carried out the questionnaire of representative small and medium-sized enterprises about the economic and financial risks impact on enterprises’ development in Latvia. The authors have created classification of Latvian services sectors economic and financial risks in the period from 2011 to 2012.Those risks have been included in questionnaire.
The risks matrix is a quantitative assessment tool of risks. The authors have created Latvian service sector economic and financial risks matrix. The authors have arranged risks by their size of possible losses for enterprises. For each type of risk has been assessed its probability of realization.
The authors have created Latvian accommodations (hotel) and food services technological process risks map. Several parts of the risk map (segments) make it possible to assess each type of the risk separately in its segment. Risk matrix can use to choose enterprise’s strategy of risk management. Enterprise’s strategy of risk management is developed by analysing zones of risk level
Sectoral Import Dependency in Latvia
The study is devoted to the sectoral import dependency in Latvia. Level of sectoral import dependency is relatively high in Latvia due to the specifics of the economic structure, economic development, limited availability of domestic resources, globalization, geographical location, available technologies etc. The aim of the research is to analyse in detail the sectoral import dependency, analysing the dynamics on the basis of input-output tables in 2000-2009, as well detecting the major influencing factors that facilitate or slow down the dependency on the imported goods
Quality Evaluation of Synthetic Video in Simultaneous Double Stimulus Environment
Advances in video technologies combined with increased usage of synthetic video artifacts even in natural video scenes may cause problems in subjective perception of quality. In this paper investigation is done on how subjective quality assessment scores depend on technical specifications of video interface (YPbPr, YCbCr and YIQ) and video content containing diverse synthetic video artifacts. Single Stimulus (SS) and Simultaneous Double Stimulus (SDS) subjective quality assessment methods were used and results compared.
It was also revealed that SDS method allows better differentiation of subjective quality. This result agrees well with statistics obtained from crowd-based questionnaires used in separate study where most observers preferred SDS as a simpler and more comfortable method compared to SS method
Preliminary Assessment of Correlation btween Vibrations and Buckling Load of Stainless Steel Cylinders
ABSTRACT: The current research focuses on the preliminary assessment of correlation between the shift of modal response due to compression stresses and its influence in estimation of buckling load. Such a method-ology is known as Vibration Correlation Technique (VCT) and has a potential for estimation of limit load for axially loaded structures from a set of self-frequency measurements. For a particular study a finite element ei-genvalue analysis involving axially loaded state of the structure was compared with modal tests of axially loaded cylinders. A set of cylinders has been manufactured with the radius/thickness ratios of 300/500 and rolled from ASI 304 0.5mm thick sheet, then joined by plasma welding. Obtained preliminary vibration re-sults confirmed the trend required for identification of the buckling load. However, it has been noted that the sensitivity of obtained results are highly dependent on the technique applied for excitation of the structure. Therefore a set of recommendations for further study is proposed
