Supply chain 4.0 and the transition towards a circular economy
Get PDFIn recent years, there has been a growing interest in the concept of circular economy (CE), which calls for a shift from the traditional linear model of production and consumption to optimize resource and energy efficiency. The goal in CE is to minimize waste and extend the lifecycle of products and materials through innovative solutions and business models. Different circular business models can drive supply chains towards sustainability in various loops such as: closing, slowing, narrowing the loops, and dematerialisation. Precise information on products is required to improve the sustainability of materials and supply chain when moving towards CE model. Therefore, data plays a key role for traceability of products and materials and to enable efficiency and transparency of the supply chain. In this regard, supply chain 4.0 which refers to utilization of Industry 4.0 technologies in supply change management, can enable the transition towards CE. Industry 4.0 technologies such as Internet of Things (IoT), Big Data, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) help companies in redesigning their supply chain by utilizing sensors, process automation, creating networks, and analyzing large amount of data which improves performances significantly and increases customer satisfaction. This chapter explores the concept of supply chain 4.0 in the context of CE. The aim is to identify the role of Industry 4.0 technologies in circular supply chain and to propose a framework for the applications of these technologies in different circular business models and strategies based on the existing literature and supportive case examples. Therefore, this chapter seeks to answer the following research questions: 1. How can Industry 4.0 technologies enable circularity in supply chain to create value for businesses and society? 2. What are the best practices for implementing supply chain 4.0 in circular economy

The image, the frame, and the off-frame
Get PDFWithin a digitalised visual culture saturated with images, consumed at speed, this practice-based research project seeks to produce a body of work centred around still images in painting and in photography which create modes of looking that engage or structure time differently. Developing from an artistic practice rooted in painting, I use the concept of the off-frame, expanded from the off-screen of film theory, to explore the experience of absence that works around the presence of still images. This exploration moves between the implication of perceptual absence in different modes of representation and the absences implicit within narrative, knowledge, and understanding. Conversely, window displays frequently feature as a motif in artworks or serve as a stage for performances and actions. The exhibition will explore this eventful relationship from its beginnings to the present day, while artistic interventions in shop windows in Basel extend the show into public space. Art and shop windows may seem like unusual partners, but if one takes a look at their shared history, one finds a long tradition. In the late nineteenth century, when window displays developed into a central element of modern consumer culture, people soon began to think about the potential for presenting commodities in aesthetic ways. Get PDFThe writing ‘Court Circular SE11’ is realised in form and tone as a letter-form dialogue drawn from a more extensive email correspondence between RCA colleagues Corinne Noble and Simon King (who walk and work together collaboratively as N&K). The written exchange took place over five weeks between April and May 2020 following an invitation to create a place-responsive public walk in relation to Lambeth County Court, a decommissioned civil court building in Cleaver Square, Kennington south London. This period of restricted social gatherings, an edict of the first UK government-imposed Covid-19 lockdown, required Noble and King to resolve fundamental questions including how to make socially engaged work in isolation from others and whether working remotely and walking singly can be an effective substitute for walking together. In respect of its place responsiveness, the text is structured performatively as an inquiry around a legal glossary – ‘INVITATION’, ‘DISPOSITION’, ‘GROUNDS’, ‘PURSUANCE’, ‘EVIDENCE’, ‘DISCOVERY’, ‘OBLIGATION’, and ‘ADJOURNMENT’ As part of ‘On Holding’ the post-lockdown group show in June 2021, the writing here originally took the form of an installation piece that complemented the themes within the final walk

In The Lessons, he offers not only insight into his method, but also a profound meditation on the fundamental principles and mysteries of art making. The Lessons documents a series of paintings inspired by the dynamics of art education and the artist's creative process. Kovitz takes on the roles of thirty-four fictional art students who are asked to visualize concepts from a spiritual encyclopedia, beginning with standardized lesson sheets. These six black and white line drawings depict themes of art education, historical phenomena, and reactions to art, such as iconoclasm and appreciation. The result explores the tension between the systematic and the personal, as well as the role of imagination and visualization in our lives and in the production of art. Kovitz's works blend genres, and several paintings in this series have a deliberately unfinished quality that emphasizes the artwork as a residue of action and the artist's eternal question, “When is a work finished?”. Understanding art education as both method and metaphor, the book presents the process as a dialog between systematic approaches and the unpredictable emergence of expression. The underlying lesson sheets, reminiscent of pages in a coloring book, anchor the project, while the overpainting adds spontaneity. These layers - structured and impulsive - create a poetic tension and embody Kovitz's navigation between discipline and freedom. With its conceptual depth and experimentation, and texts by Chris Kraus, Pil and Galia Kollectiv, and Matthew Poole, it is an important contribution to contemporary art discourse
