Elevating Cybersecurity for Smart Grid Systems—A Container-Based Approach Enhanced by Machine Learning
This paper presents a comprehensive implementation of a cybersecurity solution for smart grid network containers. The methodology utilises (i) Qualys API-based vulnerability scanning and reporting system for vulnerability identification, (ii) Docker deployment for security and isolation, (iii) advanced load balancing techniques for resource optimisation, and (iv) machine learning-powered anomaly detection for threat identification and vulnerability prioritisation. The implementation was used to create a dataset that continues the details of several simulated attacks, enabling effective training and evaluation of a robust machine-learning model. The paper provides a thorough description of the implemented system architecture, the Qualys API-based vulnerability scanning and reporting system, the data set creation process, simulated attacks in Docker implementation, the load balancing process, and the machine learning model used for vulnerability prioritisation. The experiments showed that the machine learning model performed exceptionally well across all conducted attacks i.e., Denial of Service, Remote-to-Local, User-to-Root, and Probes, achieving high scores in accuracy, precision, recall, and F1 scores
Spiralling Out of a Shell: Fictioning more-than-machine listening
This article critiques the anthropocentric tendencies in machine listening practices and narratives, developing alternative concepts and methods to explore the more-than-human potential of these technologies through the framework of sonic fiction. Situating machine listening within the contemporary soundscape of dataveillance, the research examines post-anthropocentric threads that emerge at the intersection of datafication, subjectivation and animalisation. Theory and practice interweave in the composition of a music piece, The Spiral, enabling generative feedback between concept, sensation and technique. Specifically, the research investigates the figure of a mollusc bio-sensor between science fact and fable, as the (im)possible locus of musicality. Workshop on “Complexity in Socio-Economic Systems: The Connectivity Approach”
On June 6, 2024, the Accademia delle Scienze dell’Istituto di Bologna hosted a workshop on “Complexity in Socio-Economic Systems: the Connectivity Approach”, coordinated by Ivano Cardinale, Aura Reggiani, and Roberto Scazzieri. The workshop developed research lines addressed in a Special issue of the journal Networks and Spatial Economics (NETS), edited by the workshop coordinators in 2022. The workshop focused on three questions: what are the research perspectives on the architecture of complexity of socio-economic systems; what is the role of the architecture of connectivity in shaping complex subsystem-system dynamics in the socio-economic sphere; which contribution can be expected from a structural connectivity framework in shaping the design and implementation of policies. Keynote lectures by Terry Friesz, Kieran Donaghy and Ariel Wirkierman were followed by general discussion and concluding remarks by Alberto Quadrio Curzio
Musicking and Soundscapes amongst Magical-Religious Witches Community and Ritual Practices
Drumming and chanting are core practices in modern magical-religious Witchcraft in the absence of unifying texts or standardized rituals. Song and musicality contribute towards self-creation and community making. However, Nature Religions and alternate spiritualities are seldom included in surveys of religious musicking or soundscapes. This article considers musicality in earlier publications on modern Witchcraft, as well as the author’s fieldwork with magical-religious Witches in the UK, to show the valuable contribution they make to discsusions on religious belonging and the sensorium through song, music, percussion, and soundscapes
The right face at the wrong place: How motor intentions can override outcome monitoring
The concept of intentions is often taken for granted in the cognitive and neural sciences, and comparing outcomes with internal goals is seen as critical for our sense of agency. We created an experiment where participants decided which face they preferred, and we either created outcome errors by covertly switch- ing the position of the chosen face or induced motor errors by deviating the mouse cursor, or we did both at the same time. In the final case, participants experienced a motor error, but the outcome ended up cor- rect. The result showed that when they received the right face, but at the wrong place, participants re- jected the outcome they actually wanted in a majority of the trials. Thus, contrary to common belief, higher-order outcomes do not always regulate our actions. Instead, motor ‘‘wrongness’’ might sometimes override goal ‘‘rightness’’ and lead us to reject the outcome we actually want

Is it premature to formulate recommendations for policy and practice, based on culture and health research? A robust critique of the CultureForHealth (2022) report
Introduction: Arts and health practice and research has expanded rapidly since the turn of the millennium. A World Health Organization scoping review (WHO, 2019) of a large body of evidence claims positive health benefits from arts participation and makes recommendations for policy and implementation of arts for health initiatives. A more recent scoping review (CultureForHealth, 2022) also claims that current evidence is sufficient to form recommendations for policy and practice. However, scoping reviews of arts and health research without critical appraisal of included studies do not provide a sound basis for recommendations on the wider implantation of healthcare interventions.
Methods: We performed a detailed assessment of 18 Randomised Controlled Trials (RCTs) on arts-based interventions included in Section 1 of the CultureForHealth report using the Joanna Briggs Institute Critical Appraisal Tool for RCTs (2023).
Results: The 18 RCTs included demonstrated considerable risks of bias regarding internal and statistical conclusion validity. Moreover, the trials are substantially heterogeneous with respect to settings, health-issues, interventions, and outcomes, which limits their external validity, reliability, and generalisability.
Conclusions: The absence of a critical appraisal of studies included in the CultureForHealth report leads to an over-interpretation and over-statement of the health outcomes of arts-based interventions. As such, the CultureForHealth review is not a suitable foundation for policy recommendations, nor for formulating guidance on implementation of arts-based interventions for health
