Do green servicescape and perceived quality determine consumerism and its consequences?
Purpose: Hotel servicescapes have been extensively examined in the literature; however, there has been less attention on green servicescapes that attract consumers to visit green hotels. This model explores the relationship among green servicescapes – green items, green surfaces, natural environment, green consumerism and their outcomes, including intentions to return and green evangelism with a moderating role of green perceived quality.Design/methodology/approach: The multi-wave method was utilized to gather data from China's major cities, Beijing and Shanghai. A total of 462 responses were received over three waves. Subsequently, the data were analyzed employing structural equation modeling (SEM) in Smart PLS 4. Findings: The findings indicated that green servicescape – green items, green surfaces and natural environment – have a positive impact on green consumerism. The authors have discovered that green consumerism leads to positive intentions among consumers to return and engage in green evangelism. Green perceived quality significantly moderated the relationship between green servicescape and green consumerism. Research limitations/implications: The study offers insightful contributions to academia and managerial fields, encompassing consumer psychology, consumer behaviour, the stimulus-organism-response (SOR) framework and servicescapes. Additionally, it assists hotel managers in addressing challenges stemming from the competitive environment and creating a more environmentally friendly atmosphere. Originality/value: The research focused on the innovative reflective model of green consumerism model and adopted a pioneering approach to examine green servicescapes within the hotel industry. This study enhances understanding of consumer intentions to return and the influence of green consumerism on green evangelism, while also quantifying the significance of green perceived quality.</p
Assessing a pilot scheme of intensive support and assertive linkage in levels of engagement, retention, and recovery capital for people in recovery housing using quasi-experimental methods
Introduction: There is strong and ever-growing evidence highlighting the effectiveness of recovery housing to support and sustain substance use disorder (SUD) recovery augmented by intensive support comprising assertive linkages to community services.Aim: To assess a pilot intensive recovery support (IRS) intervention for individuals (n=175) entering certified Level II and III recovery residences who met at least three out of five conditions (no health insurance; no driving license; substance use in the last 14 days; currently unemployed; having less than $75 capital) and its impact on engagement, retention and changes in recovery capital for individuals compared with a business-as-usual Standard Recovery Support (SRS) approach (n=1,758).Methods: We deployed quasi-experimental techniques to create weighted and balanced counterfactual groups derived from the Recovery Capital (REC-CAP) assessment tool to compare outcomes for people receiving the pilot IRS compared to intervention against SRS.Results: After reweighting for resident demographics, service needs, and barriers to recovery, those receiving IRS exhibited improved retention rates, reduced likelihood of disengagement, and growth in recovery capital after living in the residence for 6-9 months. Conclusion: Our findings from this pilot intervention suggest that intensive recovery support incorporating assertive community linkages and enhanced recovery coaching can improve engagement, length of stay and recovery capital growth compared to a balanced counterfactual group. We suggest that this model may be particularly beneficial to those entering Level II and Level III recovery housing with lower levels of recovery capital at admission entry
Immigration, automation and the discipline of labour
Dr. Kostas Maronitis looks at the interlinkage between automation and migration policies that on the one hand expressed with a political backlash against immigration and fear of low productivity on the other hand
Why students still choose University-led routes into teaching
At the annual conference of the Universities’ Council for Education of Teachers (UCET), held in Leeds recently, Ed Podesta, Associate Professor (Professional Practice) from the School of Education at Leeds Trinity University, and I presented a well-received seminar on our key findings from our research named Why Students Still Choose University Led Routes into Teaching. We have both been active members of UCET since 2019, when we began contributing to the work streams during the ITT Education Market Review by the Department for Education (DfE).Here at Leeds Trinity University, we are part of a team with a reputation for providing exceptional initial teacher education (ITE). In recent years, we have become a leading regional provider of high-quality professional learning and development for qualified teachers at all stages of their careers. At the heart of everything we do, as teachers and educators, is a commitment to social justice, and the impact of our work can be seen in classrooms, senior leadership teams and Multi-Academy Trusts regionally and nationally. <br/
Leveraging digital twin technology for enhanced cybersecurity in cyber-physical production systems
The convergence of cyber and physical systems through Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) has been integrated into Cyber-Physical Production Systems (CPPS), leading a paradigm shift towards intelligent manufacturing. Despite the transformative benefits CPPS provide, their increased connectivity expose manufactures to cyber attacks through exploitable vulnerabilities. This paper presents a novel approach on CPPS security protection by leveraging digital twin (DT) technology to develop a comprehensive security model for enhanced asset visibility and further support vulnerable component mitigation prioritization through DT-based virtual tuning, providing quantitative assessment results for effective mitigation. Our proposed DT security model also serves as an advanced simulation environment, facilitating the evaluation of CPPS vulnerabilities across diverse attack scenarios without disrupting physical operations. The practicality and effectiveness of our approach are illustrated through its application in a human-robot collaborative assembly system, showing the potential of DT technology in enhancing the security and resilience of CPPS against cyber threats
The potency of audiovisual attractiveness and influencer marketing:the road to customer behavioral engagement
Digital technologies have signified audiovisual (vs. textual) cues for customers on online booking platforms (e.g., Airbnb and hotels). Predicating on the current literature, this study investigates the influencers' audiovisual attractiveness, customer-influencer interaction, and their consequent customer behavioral engagement using three experimental studies. This research involved an analysis using IBM SPSS 28.0, which included independent sample t-test and One-way ANOVA. Additionally, moderation analysis was conducted using the PROCESS macro model 4. In order, Study 1 reveals that influencers' audiovisual attractiveness at high (vs. low) significantly and directly manipulate customer engagement. In Study 2, using Process Model 4, customer-influencer interaction significantly mediates the relationships between influencers' audiovisual attractiveness and customer behavioral engagement. Last, Study 3 incorporates the moderation of influencers' audiovisual expertise between customer-influencer interaction and customer behavioral engagement. The two-way between-subjects analysis anchors that when influencers’ audiovisual expertise is high (vs. low), and customers having good (vs. bad) interactions, it engenders higher effects on customer behavioral engagement. The findings add to the literature on consumer engagement on booking platforms and underscore the potency of audiovisual attractiveness to engage customers. We also acknowledge the shortcomings and provide recommendations for future studies.</p
