    Dataset for 'Exploring effects of intermittent light upon visible light promoted water oxidations'

    Visible light promoted photocatalytic water oxidations for potential solar fuel production have been studied widely, with many reports on optimization of reagent components. Here we report an exploration on the effects upon ongoing reactions of daylight equivalent light intensity illumination with regulated short dark periods of a few seconds duration as compared to standard continuous illumination. In addition raw XRD data of metal oxide catalysts used, an additional image of reaction flask and a movie file that shows a reaction flask under under cycling RGB LED illumination is given here.Details of the methodology used to collect this data can be found in the associated manuscript, published in RSC Sustainable Energy and Fuels (DOI: 10.1039/C7SE00304H).A movie file is provided that shows illumination of a reaction flask with light harvester and metal oxide catalyst, a cycling RGB led light source is used. Under red light the iron oxide catalyst and [Ru[bpy)3]2+ light harvester reflects the incoming light. Blue light is adsorbed as shown by the visible darkening of the stirred reaction mixture

    Dataset for "Zeolite Minilith: A Unique Structured Catalyst for the Methanol to Gasoline Process"

    This dataset contains instruments, materials and analytical methods used to obtain and process data for the article. Structured microchannel H-ZSM-5 catalysts called miniliths were fabricated, characterised using TGA, XRD, EDX, N2 sorption and SEM and tested for the first time for the conversion of methanol to gasoline at 370 C, 3bar and WHSV up to 1170 h^-1. The influence of the bentonite binder was found to be minimal on the methanol to gasoline reaction. The catalytic test results obtained over the zeolite miniliths were compared to zeolite powder of equal ZSM-5 content. The pressure drop over the zeolite powder was found to be 2 orders of magnitude higher than the minilith in accordance with the literature. Reducing the catalyst powder inventory to give similar inlet pressures (3bar) as the minilith gives a higher catalyst effeciency over the minilith.[1] The ZSM-5 miniliths were characterised using nitrogen sorption, SEM, TGA, EDX and XRD. [2] The conversion of methanol to gasoline was carried at 370 C, 3 bar and WHSV up to 1174 h^-1 over ZSM-5 miniliths and the reaction products were sampled through an online gas chromatography (Shimadzu GC 2010) equipped with a flame ionisation detector and an Equity-1 fused silica capillary column (90m × 0.53mm × 3.0µm). Raw data containing retention times of various products and their corresponding areas and heights were obtained. [3] Stability tests were conducted over zeolite miniliths and zeolite powders of equal ZSM-5 weight up to time-on-stream of 140 h, flowrate of 54 mL/min and pressure of 3 bar and temperature of 370 C. Raw data containing retention times of various products and their corresponding areas and heights were obtained.The raw data i.e. concentration (areas, height) collected from the GC-FID was then converted to processed data i.e. concentration (ppm) for the measured product species using a MATLAB code written by Dr Nikolay Cherkasov (University of Warwick). Data were obtained for methanol, dimethyl ether, C1-C10 aliphatics and C6-C10 aromatics.Data were obtained during catalytic tests as .gcd files. They were converted to .txt using the GC-FID. Notepad was used to read raw data .txt files. .txt files were processed using a MATLAB code to .xlsx files. Microsoft Excel 2016 was used to analyse the GC-FID data, TGA, nitrogen sorption (ASAP2020 and 3Flex). ImageJ for SEM data. Veusz 2.0.1 for data visualisation of XRD.     This dataset contains scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images, transmission electron microscopy (TEM) pictures and Catodoluminescence (CL) measurements carried out on AlN and AlGaN/AlN core-shell nanorod. The samples were fabricated via a hybrid top-down/bottom up approach. Displacement Talbot Lithography is used to fabricate Au/Ni metal dots to act as a hard etch mask. Ultrathin AlN nanorod arrays are created; thanks to a two-step dry-wet etching process with first, chlorine-based dry etching of an AlN template and second, KOH-based wet etching. AlN facet recovery and AlGaN quantum well growth is performed by Metal Organic Vapor Phase Epitaxy. TEM and CL were used to assess the structural, chemical and optical quality of the various nanorod samples.Secondary electron images were captured using a Hitachi S-4300 scanning electron microscope (SEM). An accelerating voltage of 5 kV was used to collect the images. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) images were captured using a JEOL 2100 with an accelerating voltage of 5kV. All acquisition has been performed along the [10-10] zone axis. Cathodoluminescence hyperspectral imaging measurements were carried out at room temperature in a modified FEI Quanta 250 field emission SEM using electron energies of 15.0 keV and beam currents of approximately 7 nA. Light was collected using an NA 0.28 reflecting objective with its axis perpendicular to the electron beam and focused directly on the entrance of the spectrograph using an off-axis paraboloidal mirror. We used a 125 mm focal length spectrograph with a 600 lines/mm grating and 50 μm entrance slit, coupled to a cooled electron multiplying charge-coupled device (EMCCD) detector.The nanorod investigated by TEM were mechanically removed from the substrate in an ultrasonic bath and then dispersed on a carbon grid

    Collected data for the results presented in "Ultra-low background Raman sensing using a negative-curvature fibre and no distal optics" demonstrating the use of a single hollow core negative curvature fibre for Raman and surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy sensing. This new optical fibre shows a 1000x background reduction compared to conventional fibres while maintaining the same collection efficiency. The dataset includes Raman and SERS spectra from different samples and attenuation data for a range of wavelengths for the negative curvature fibre.The data (txt files) were collected using an Avantes SensLine Hero spectrometer and the setup described in the associated paper. The methodology used to obtain the data is also described in the paper.MATLAB was used to plot the acquired data, but is not needed to open the data files.Each subfolder contains the relevant data for each of the figures in the paper; each column of the complete data table for the figure has been saved as a separate text file

    Dataset for "Forecasting the Exchange Rate using Non-linear Taylor Rule Based Models"

    This dataset contains a compilation of exchange rate data and also data for the Taylor rule for each country covering the UK, Sweden and Australia against the US dollar between 1979 and 2008. It is also for the estimation of the shadow interest rate for the UK and US. It is used with the included set of scripts for estimating a non-linear Taylor rule model for each exchange rate. Results arising from this dataset are published in the paper "Forecasting the Exchange Rate using Non-linear Taylor Rule Based Models".The data were selected based on the availability of the data over a sufficiently long time period, resulting in the UK, Australia and Sweden against the US dollar. This also represented a mix of countries with strong stock markets and housing markets.The data were compiled into a single dataset for use and in a form relevant to the Taylor rule model of the exchange rate. All the data is taken secondary online sources.The .rpf files are RATS program files, written for use with RATS 9.2 for Windows (https://estima.com/ratsmain.shtml)
