    Metacognitive monitoring and control of eyewitness memory reports in autism 2017-2019

    Providing eyewitness testimony involves monitoring one’s memory to provide a detailed and accurate account: reporting details likely to be accurate and withholding potentially inaccurate details. Autistic individuals reportedly experience difficulties in both retrieving episodic memories and monitoring their accuracy, which has important implications for eyewitness testimony. Thirty autistic and 33 IQ-matched typically developing (TD) participants viewed a video of a mock bank robbery followed by three phases of questions (with judgments of confidence). In Phase 1, participants freely generated the granularity of their responses (i.e., fine- or coarse-grained). In Phase 2, participants answered the same questions but provided both a fine- and a coarse-grained answer. In Phase 3, participants were instructed to maximise accuracy over informativeness by selecting one of their Phase 2 answers as their final answer. They either received the questions socially (from the experimenter) or answered them online. There were no group differences in accuracy or metacognitive monitoring, with both autistic and TD witnesses demonstrating: a) a strong preference for reporting fine-grained details at the expense of accuracy; b) improved, though still sub-optimal grain size reporting when instructed to maximise accuracy over informativeness; c) effective accuracy monitoring; and d) higher overall accuracy when questions were delivered socially. There was, however, a subtle difference in metacognitive control, with autistic witnesses performing more poorly than TD witnesses when questions were delivered socially, but not when they were delivered online. These findings contrast with evidence suggesting that autism is marked by impairments in episodic memory and metacognitive monitoring and control.A total of 63 participants took part: 30 autistic adults (16 males, 14 females) and 33 age- and IQ-matched typically developed (TD) participants (7 males; 26 females). Participants were recruited mainly from the South West of England and surrounding areas, including via previous research participation, autism-related and local community Facebook groups, social and support groups, as well as via local community recruitment (including posters, magazine articles, and social media posts, and University website campaigns). All autistic participants had received a formal clinical diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder according to DSM–IV (American Psychiatric Association, 2000) or DSM-5 criteria (American Psychiatric Association, 2013), and confirmed this with a copy of their clinical diagnostic report. Six participants had received a clinical diagnosis but were unable to access their report and were therefore administered the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, Second Edition (ADOS-2; Lord et al., 2012) to confirm their diagnoses. Participants provided their written informed consent to take part and were fully debriefed. Ethical approval was obtained from the Psychology Research Ethics Committee at the University of Bath.     Syrian refugees in Kilis (Southern Turkey): locations, distances and populations

    The data set includes the GIS coordination and population information of 18 potential service points (2 hospitals, 1 Red Crescent office, and 15 schools) together with 187 (109 villages and 78 neighbourhoods) main locations where Syrian refugees inhabit in the Kilis province in southern Turkey. Locations are classified as Villages (Köy) and Neighbourhoods (Mahalle) based on administrative divisions of Turkey. The population of each identified demand location, which is obtained from the local government in 2018, is provided as well. The dataset has been used for a study on how to design a network of administrative facilities to support the roll-out of cash-based interventions, using refugee locations from the dataset to identify appropriate locations for these administrative facilities using the model presented in the paper. For decades the humanitarian sector has mainly relied on providing material assistance to beneficiaries during disaster relief. These days there is a growing importance in the provision of services, not only by means of replacing the distribution of relief items by cash & vouchers that can be exchanged for goods as needed but also in the provision of supporting services such as health or education. These services can help stimulate local market activity and restart livelihoods. In this project we aim to design and implement the supply chain for two key services to beneficiaries: cash & voucher distribution (as a replacement for distributing core relief items). The dataset has been used for a study on how to design a network of administrative facilities to support the roll-out of cash-based interventions, using refugee locations from the dataset to identify appropriate locations for these administrative facilities using the model presented in the paper.This dataset identifies communities by type, district, longitude, lattitude and population size (where applicable). The nodes are numbered. In a second tab, distances between nodes are calculated using geospatial software

    Social and thermal comfort surveys were conducted in Hitsats refugee camp summer and winter 2019. The dataset contains information collected via spot measurements to collect environmental parameters data ( such as VA, WBGT, TA, RH, TG and TO). Moreover, the dataset contains information regarding personal parameters such as the Metabolic rate, Clo value, gender, weight and height information for each participant.The data was collected via a thermal comfort survey, including spot measurements of environmental parameters, the surveys were conducted directly in a Tigrinian language. The families were selected randomly. Given the range of backgrounds, intra-household dynamics, education and literacy levels, all surveys were administered through an interview. A repeated transverse survey method was used to collect the data. The thermal comfort scales were the standard 7-point ASHRAE thermal sensation scale and the 5-point thermal preference scal

    Dataset for "Birefringent Anti-resonant Hollow-core Fiber"

    This dataset contains data supporting the results presented in the paper "Birefringent Anti-resonant Hollow-core Fiber" and the supplementary material. It includes the data used to plot each figure (in .xlsx format), together with simulated data obtained using COMSOL. Hollow-core fibres have demonstrated record performance in applications such as high-power pulse delivery, quantum computing, and sensing. However, their routine use is yet to become reality. A major obstacle is the ability to maintain the polarisation state of light over a broad range of wavelengths, while also ensuring single-mode guidance and attenuation that is low enough for practical applications that require only a few meters of fibre length (<1 dB/m). Here we simulated, fabricated and characterized a single-mode birefringent anti-resonant hollow-core fibre. The birefringence was achieved by introducing capillary tubes of different thicknesses, thereby creating reduced symmetry in the structure. The measured group birefringence is in good agreement with the calculated group birefringence from simulations across the fibre guidance band within the telecommunications C-band. At 1550 nm, we measured a group birefringence of 4.4E-5, which corresponds to a phase birefringence of 2.5E-5. The measured loss of the fibre was 0.46 dB/m at 1550 nm. The measured polarisation extinction ratio of the fibre at 1550 nm was 23.1 dB (25.7 dB) along the x-(y-) polarisation axis, relating to an h-parameter of 9.8E-4 (5.3E-4).The different data collection methods used for the collection of the data are described in the paper Birefringent Anti-resonant Hollow-core Fiber

    Dataset for "Service users' experiences of NHS patient medicines helpline services: A qualitative study"

    The study used semi-structured interviews to explore service users' experiences of using National Health Service (NHS) patient medicines helpline services (PMHS). This dataset comprises data from 40 participants. The study protocol is included in the dataset to provide additional context.The study used semi-structured interviews to explore service users' experiences of using National Health Service (NHS) patient medicines helpline services (PMHS). This dataset comprises data from 40 participants. Recruitment was conducted via seven NHS Trusts from different regions within England, which acted as participant identification sites. Data were collected via telephone. Prior to their interview, the following background information was collected from participants: Name of NHS Trust contacted, date of PMHS contact, whether they had previously used a PMHS. Patients were also asked whether they were an inpatient or outpatient for their recent period of care, and the number of prescribed medicines they were prescribed at the time of the PMHS contact. Carers were also asked their relationship to the patient who the PMHS contact was regarding. Separate interview schedules to explore participants experiences of using a PMHS were developed for patients and carers. The two schedules were broadly similar, although, for ethical reasons, the carer version did not contain questions that would have resulted in them providing personal information about the patient individual that they care for. The aim of the interview with carers was thus to explore whether the PMHS met their needs as a carer seeking information. Following their interview, the following background data were collected from each participant: Age, gender, ethnicity, and current occupational status. All audio-recorded interviews were transcribed verbatim into separate Microsoft Word documents. Braun and Clarke’s inductive reflexive thematic analysis (TA) was used to analyse this data. Analysis involved the following stages, as outlined by Braun and Clarke: familiarisation with the data, generating initial codes, developing themes, reviewing themes, defining and naming themes, and writing the analysis. All individual interview transcripts were uploaded into NVivo version 12. NVivo was used for generating initial codes and developing and reviewing themes. The only deviation to the TA stages was that Iterative Categorisation (IC) was used in place of the defining themes stage, for increased transparency and rigour.     This dataset contains the results of finite difference time domain (FDTD) calculations of electromagnetic fields and charge density near/on a surface with an inverse opal structure, and the results of COMSOL Multiphysics simulations of the same structure. The calculations were performed in Lumerical FDTD and COMSOL Multiphysics software. The results support the publication "“Hot Edges” in Inverse Opal Structure Enable Efficient CO2 Electrochemical Reduction and Sensitive in-situ Raman Characterization".The data were obtained by simulating a surface with inverse opal structure in Lumerical Finite Difference Time Domain (FDTD) software and COMSOL Multiphysics software. Temperature was controlled via a Peltier unit (±0.1 °C) and kept at 25 °C. A thin layer of low viscosity mineral-oil was added to the edge of the geometry to prevent sample evaporation. Oscillatory amplitude sweeps were done at a fixed angular frequency (ω) of 6.28 rad·s-1 and amplitude strain (γ) from 0.01 to 100%. Frequency sweeps were conducted at γ of 0.1%, within the linear viscoelastic range, covering ω of 0.01 to 50 rad·s-1. All samples were measured between 24 and 48 hrs after preparation. Small-angle neutron scattering (SANS) measurements were conducted on the time-of-flight diffractometer instrument SANS2d at the STFC ISIS Neutron and Muon Source (Didcot, UK). Incidental wavelengths from 1.75 to 16.5 Å were used with a sample-to-detector distance of 4 m, corresponding to a total scattering vector range q from 4.5 × 10-3 to 0.75 Å-1. The sample temperature was controlled by an external circulating thermal bath (Julabo, DE). The scattering intensity was converted to the differential scattering cross-section in absolute units using ISIS standard procedures. Samples were loaded in 1 mm path length, 1 cm wide optical quartz cells. Constrast match experiments were done at 15 wt% D2O, which is the contrast match point for the surfactant mixtures. All other SANS experiments were done in 100 wt% D2O

    This is the dataset for the doctoral thesis "A Novel Neural Network Architecture with Applications to 3D Animation and Interaction in Virtual Reality" by Javier de la Dehesa Cueto-Felgueroso. See the original document for details. The dataset is structured in three parts. The files `gfnn_code.zip` and `gfnn_data.zip` contain the code and data for the experiments with grid-functioned neural networks discussed in chapter 3 of the thesis. The files `quadruped_code.zip` and `quadruped_data.zip` contain the code and data for the quadruped locomotion experiments and user study discussed in chapter 4. The files `framework_code.zip` and `framework_data.zip` contain the code and data for the human-character interaction framework experiments and user studies discussed in chapter 5. Each pair of files should be decompressed in the same directory, but separate from the other parts. Further details and instructions for each of the parts can be found within the corresponding compressed files.Synthetic evaluation data has been generated programmatically. Quadruped locomotion data has been extracted from the dataset published as part of the article "Mode-Adaptive Neural Networks for Quadruped Motion Control" by Zhang et al. (2018). Gesture recognition data was collected with VR hardware in a custom-made virtual scenario, where the subject was presented with a signal indicating a gesture to perform, which they then did while pressing a button on the hand controller. Sword fighting animation data was motion captured with specialised equipment within the facilities of Ninja Theory, Ltd. User studies data was collected through online forms, filled after each condition of each of the studies.Quadruped locomotion data has been extracted from the dataset published as part of the article "Mode-Adaptive Neural Networks for Quadruped Motion Control" by Zhang et al. (2018). A selection of the original dataset was converted from the original BVH format into CSV and TensorFlow's TfRecord formats.Gesture recognition data was captured with an Oculus Rift kit. Animation data was captured with Vicon Bonita hardware.Synthetic evaluation data is stored in TfRecord format including the input and output values for each of the examples. Quadruped locomotion data is expressed in CSV, including the configuration of the character joints on each frame, and in TfRecord format, encoded as described in the thesis. Gesture recognition data is stored in CSV files where each row contains the position and orientation of both hands and the gesture being performed on each frame. Animation data is stored in CSV files where each row contains the position and orientation of each joint of the skeleton. User studies data is stored in JASP files encoding the answers of each participant to each question in the study

    The dataset consists of policy mapping to identify the characteristics of autism-specific, national-level policies from within the Western European and Others group as designated by the UN. The following data is included: - List and download locations of autism policies. - Coding data for policy instruments, including Category (as per Schneider and Ingram's typology), Instrument Type, Conditions, Goals, Actors and Funding. - NVivo analysis of policy documents showing most frequently used words.There were three qualifying criteria for inclusion of a national autism policy in the sample. I defined national policy as a policy emanating from a Parliament or Assembly with devolved powers over education, health and social care. Firstly, the Parliament or Assembly had to be in a country classified as Western European, defined as included in the United Nations Western European and Others Group (WEOG) dataset. Secondly, it had to have a current, autism-specific policy (a policy dealing exclusively with autism). This was to isolate autism policy from disability policy and ensure reliability. Thirdly, there had to be sufficient detail in the policy to enable the instrument types and other details to be coded. Twelve policies met these criteria. The dataset also identifies those policies which were excluded, and the reasons why.Files were prepared in Microsoft Excel and NVivo

    Dataset for "Thermal environment perceptions from longitudinal study of indoor temperature profiles in inpatient wards"

    This research investigated the indoor air temperature and relative humidity profiles for 18 patient rooms in surgical, medical, cardiology and oncology wards in two hospitals. Also, 522 patient thermal surveys were completed in parallel with the monitoring task. The monitoring covered the hottest summer months; June, July, August, September in 2018 in Saudi Arabia. The selected hospitals were (i) the International Medical Centre (IMC), Jeddah and (ii) King Abdullah Medical City (KAMC), Makkah.Longitudinal monitoring of indoor temperature and relative humidity was conducted over an extended period of time. Thermal comfort surveys were administrated to inpatients.18 Raspberry Pi+3 dataloggers were mounted in 18 patient rooms across the two hospitals. Each datalogger has two sensors; a probe wire for temperature and a tiny sensor for humidity. Readings were transferred off the dataloggers every two weeks during site visits
