    Get PDF
The broad objective of this paper is to measure the extent of disclosure of non-financial material sustainability information by Australian companies in the materials sector based on the GRI G4 guidelines. GRI G4 guidelines on economic, environmental, and social performance indicators are used based on 2014 and 2015 data to establish what constitutes non-financial material sustainability information by ASX listed Australian companies in the materials sector. The aggregate non-financial material sustainability disclosure is low for all companies in the materials sector. The findings show that a great degree of variation in sustainability disclosures exists among the listed Australian companies in the materials sector based on GRI G4 guidelines. The pattern of disclosure is similar for small-cap and medium-cap companies and they disclose less non-financial material sustainability information than large-cap companies. The sustainability score increased slightly in 2015 compared to 2014 for all companies and subgroup of companies based on market capitalization in aggregate as well as in economic, environmental, and social categories. The SPSS and the 5-Point-Likert scale have used to validate the results. Also the tests include correlation, multiple regression technique, ANOVA, and co-efficient of variance have used. The study indicates that 36% respondents are positively prone to 4G (r2=.362, f=5.531, p=.000). Besides, among the 8 factors, the image has the greatest influence on it (β=.249, t=2.558, p=.012) followed by the variety of services (β=.189, t=1.608, p=.111), the perceived enjoyment (β=.148, t=1.803, p=0.109), the perceived ease of use (β=0.108, t=0.916, p=0.368), the personal Innovativeness (β=.098, t=.934, p=.352), and the network effects (β=.002, t=.025, p=.980). Get PDF
Investment, as an addition to the existing physical stock of capital, contributes to the growth of Bangladesh economy in a decisive way. Therefore, factors that determine the private investment need to be studied in order to frame policies to manage them so as to achieve the desired capital stock for the economy to accomplish the much higher GDP growth objective in coming years. The study, thus, is an attempt to estimate the private investment demand function of Bangladesh. It employees the ARDL bounds testing approach to investigate the relationship between private investment spending and its regressors, namely, real income, rental cost of capital, foreign direct investment and exchange rate relying on data for the period 1980-2017. The study identifies a long-run equilibrium relationship between private investment spending and its determinants. The determinants are found to have conventional signs- while a rise in real income boosts private investment spending, a rise in the rental cost of capital hurts it. While most of the earlier studies compared the relative role of public and private investment in economic growth of Bangladesh, studies on the factors that determine the countries investment spending is very few. Moreover, majority of the studies in the latter group focuses on determinants of gross investment in Bangladesh, while the study focuses on the domestic private investment taking most recent years’ data in the sample period. This study aims to inject some strategic guidelines to build a better image of Bangladesh as a tourist destination. I have conducted the investigation from both a theoretical and an empirical viewpoint. A two-stage systematic random sampling design is used to select about 100 respondents from foreign and local tourist. I have analyzed data by using the qualitative method. The tourism sector in Bangladesh is far behind from reaching its goal due to the inability to draw the attention of a good number of local and foreign tourists. This low rate of tourist attraction towards Bangladesh is mainly for image crisis and inadequate promotional measures of the tourism sector. In addition to that the security concern, the recent recurrent attack of the Islamic militant, infrastructure problem, wrongful reporting by international media and the perceived negative image by the potential tourists adversely affect the development of tourism in Bangladesh
