Green Banking Prospects in Bangladesh
Green banking is the operation of the banking activities giving especial attention upon the social, ecological and environmental factors aiming at the conservation of nature and natural resources. Banks can be green through bringing changes in six main spheres of banking activities. Those are Change in Investment Management, Change in Deposit Management, Change in House Keeping, Change in the Process of Recruitment and Development of Human Capital, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), and Making Consciousness Among Clients and General Mass. Such an initiation can ensure a safe residence for upcoming generation. Bangladesh Bank has already issued circulars regarding this. Banks have already been asked to make their own green banking policy. Now we only need raising voice, keeping hand over hands, thinking in positive way and working in collective manner to make this a true.
 
Relaionship between Employee-Organization Congruence (perceived) and Organizational Commitment in the Sri Lankan Apparel Sector
The objective of this research paper was to investigate the relationship between perceived Employee-Organization congruence (EOC) and Organizational Commitment (OC) in the Sri Lankan apparel sector. The present study, which was part of a comprehensive study Employee-Organization congruence (EOC) and attitudes, empirically evaluated seven perceived EOC related factors that could have effect on EOC namely supportiveness, innovation, aggressiveness, attention to detail, outcome orientation, emphasis on rewards, team orientation and three OC factors ,that is affective, normative and effective commitments. The study involved 175 machine operators who were selected from 05 large garment factories in Sri Lanka. The results indicated that all the EOC variables were positively and significantly correlated to OC. This study would be an effective contribution in the existing body of knowledge. Human Resource Managers and other recruiters may be helped to recognize the significance of perceived EOC and OC as well as their relationship with each other for ensuring selection of machine operators. Perceived congruence in the organization, will help creating and maintaining a conducive environment for improving organizational commitment of the machine operators which will ultimately result in enhanced efficacy and effectiveness of the organization
Should Investor invest in both future and spot market? : An Analysis through Optimal Hedge Ratio
This study is to estimate optimal hedge ratio with the variables from Indian futures and spot market and also nineteen individual stock prices. Diagonal VEC-GARCH model is used for the period from June 2000 to June 2011. The Empirical results confirm that there is effective risk sharing and hedging processes in Indian futures market. It is also found that Indian futures and spot markets have strong causal relationship; which allows the trader to make perfect arbitrage process and hedge their risks
Career Preference of Business Graduate in Bangladesh: A Case Study of Some Selected Private Universities
This paper attempts to investigate the career preference of business graduates of private universities in Bangladesh. A total number of 256 final year business students, irrespective of gender in 15 private universities located in Dhaka city have been interviewed. Majority of the respondents’ preferred field for future career development are banks and multinational companies. More than average of the total respondents plans to seek employment in their chosen field specially after obtaining the bachelor\u27s degree. The major business courses that have been chosen by the business undergraduate students for specialization are finance and banking, human resource management, accounting and marketing. Financial benefit and social status were the major motivations for the business graduates’ career preference. In case of major reasons of motivation, the male respondents are highly influenced by the financial benefit, social status and good opportunities in the chosen field. On the other hand, the female respondents identified financial benefit, social status and job security as their most influencing reasons behind career preference
Empowerment: Doctor vs Nurses
This paper aims to see the levels of empowerment exist in the private hospital in Dhaka city, considering the case of doctors and nurses. A small sample of 40 respondents from the two private hospitals was chosen randomly. The theories of empowerment are discussed and the results are analyzed in respect to the theories which shows that doctors are more empowered than the nurses
Internal Control Practices of Readymade Garments Sector (Textile Industry) in Bangladesh
Internal control has a pivotal role in ensuring sustenance of any industry because it plays an important role in preventing and detecting fraud and protecting the organization\u27s resources. This study has found many factors that are relevant for internal control practices in readymade garments (RMG) sector. These vary from maintenance of employees’ job description to bonding employees with special access. In many variables these companies are practicing acceptable level of internal control, while in some they are not doing so good and have ample scope to improve that level. RMG sector is mainly populated with sole proprietorship firms and they do not allocate much resource to such practice. Even then the concern for internal control has to be implemented to ensure long lasting role in the economy
Factors Affecting Job Satisfaction, Motivation and Turnover Rate of Medical Promotion Officer (MPO) in Pharmaceutical Industry: A Study Based in Khulna City
Due to the fast growing of the pharmaceutical sector, the demand of medicine is mostly fulfilled by the local industry. In the local market, the medicines are distributed and marketed by the Medical Promotion Officers (MPOs). The main objective of the study is to find out the job satisfaction, motivation and turnover factors of MPOs. Along with different reports, it is conducted direct field survey to the 40 (forty) MPOs of different pharmaceutical companies in the Khulna City. Likert Scale, based on five points, is used for data collecting. It is found that the most of the MPOs are not satisfied with their jobs and for this they are not motivated and for this their turnover tendency is high. The MPOs are dissatisfied with their job security, social status, working load, visit to retailers’ shop, sales target, no room for family, not getting the retirement benefit and not getting the family insurance support. And finally there is given suggestion by the force field analysis model for removing the restraining/negative forces factors for reducing the turnover rate. Also there is also mentioned the driving/positive forces factors for omitting the turnover rate
The Impact of Qardhul Hasan Financing Using Zakah Funds on Economic Empowerment (Case Study of Dompet Dhuafa, West Java, Indonesia)
Poverty has been one of the major economic issues that have been troubling in Indonesia for decades. This study intends to investigate whether the Qardhul Hasan Financing through Sinergi of Dompet Dhuafa in West Java, Indonesia, as zakah managing organization, is able to improve the recipients’ Economic Empowerment. The statistical results of the study show that the Qardhul Hasan Financing implemented by the organization is able to improve Economic Empowerment
Declaration Effect of Cash & Stock Dividends on Share Price: An Empirical Study on Dhaka Stock Exchange
This study analyzes the impact of different types of dividend declaration, namely stock and cash dividends. Using event study method, MAAR and CAAR, this study found no evidence of abnormal returns on the declaration day for either of the types of dividends. However, significant negative returns are reported on days prior to the declaration day for stock dividend, indicating speculative nature of the investors. Furthermore, it provides positive returns during the post-announcement period as the investors realize the chance of potential gains. However, as far as cash dividend is concerned companies listed under DSE do not provide any significant abnormal returns during the 60 days event window. For CAAR, no significant return is reported for cash dividend, while stock dividend provided a maximum 5.6% abnormal returns during the post announcement period
Trend in Productivity research in Bangladesh Agriculture: A Review of selected Articles
This study is exploratory in nature. Changes in productivity in Bangladesh agriculture are issues of continuing research and policy interest. This article aims at interpreting the trends of productivity studies in Bangladesh agriculture sector including techniques, methods and models. This will be pursued on the basis of literature review of published books, journals and materials. Recent research developments in the study of productivity measurement have emphasized two things: the superiority of Total factor productivity (TFP) indexes and the use of flexible weight indexing procedures. But most of the earlier research work in Bangladesh agriculture has not incorporated both these approaches simultaneously.
