Corporate Social Activities of Private Commercial Banks in Bangladesh: An Evaluation
Every business organization has some responsibilities to the people because organizations need people to sell their products. No organization can make profit without selling products to the customers. However, every bank needs customers to sell products for earning profits. In this case, the authority of each bank should accomplish some activities for the well-being of the people in the society. Thus, this paper attempts to evaluate the corporate social activities of private commercial banks in Bangladesh. This paper also tries to explore the problems of corporate social activities accomplished by the private commercial banks in Bangladesh and suggests some measures to enhance the performance of the banks while they are accomplishing social activities for the people in the society.
 
Corporate Culture and Organizational Change- a Study on a Large Pharmaceutical Company in Bangladesh
This paper investigates the relationship between corporate culture and attitudes toward organizational change from the perspectives of a large pharmaceutical company in Bangladesh. A structured questionnaire was developed on the basis of the competing values framework of culture typology of Cameron and Quinn (2006) and a study of Justina Simon (June 2012), which was distributed to the 55 staff members of the company. The result shows that there is a significant relationship between corporate culture and organizational change. The study reveals that the organization has adopted all four types of organizational culture and the dominant existing organizational culture is the hierarchy culture. The study also shows that the resistance to change is a function of organizational culture. The implications of the study are also discussed.
 
The Fundamental Deviation and the Riddle of Manipulation: A Critical Analysis in the Context of Bangladesh Stock Market Crash in 2010-11
The capital market in Bangladesh does not always act based on the fundamentals. Fundamental means the set of ethics, principles, guidance, various market instruments and well structural set up that helps the stock market for operating well. Structural weakness is a thing which may ruin the market base or fundamentals. But the capital market as part of the economy should function based on the fundamental norms, principles and proper rules and regulations. Otherwise, there may be some detrimental effects on the market. Stock market anomalies bring harm not only to destroy market fundamentals but also to spread manipulation inside the stock market. Moreover, the recent stock market crash in 2010-11 was the biggest shock for the 3.3 million innocent and small investors in the capital market of Bangladesh. A section of greedy investors resorted to manipulation at different levels to cash in on the lack of small investors’ proper knowledge about market fundamentals. The excessive fraudulent activities of the unscrupulous manipulators just hastened the fall of the market. So, much of the focus of this study has been put on the causes and consequences of the fundamental deviation and the riddle of manipulation based on the relevant facts and figures.

The Social Network of High and Low Self- Monitors and it’s Impact on Organization’s Performance
Self-monitoring as a personality attribute is given particular attention by researchers in order to understand employee performance and productivity in the organizational context. Numerous studies focused on the impact of self-monitoring from individual employee perspective with limited focus on the impact of the organization’s performance. However, to what extent employees with high versus low self- monitors contribute to the organization’s performance needs to be theoretically augmented. Therefore, relying on exploratory method of research, the paper tries to address the impact of high and low self-monitors on organization’s performance. In this perspective, how self-monitoring helps employees to structure a social network within organizational setting and eventually contribute to it’s success is discussed in this paper. The paper addresses the literature review of self-monitoring principles with special interest in its contribution towards organizational performance through previous research compilation within the field of sociology and organization psychology.

Role of Micro Credit Program in Empowering Rural Women in Bangladesh: A Study on Grameen Bank Bangladesh Limited
Bangladesh is one of the high density countries of the world. 40% of its population lives below the poverty level of which rural women are poorer. The rise of the Micro Credit Institution in the global context is identified as an important phenomenon which has implication for the development prospects of the poor. The paper was designed to identify the role of Grameen Bank (GB) and to analyze rural women’s economic empowerment as the outcome of micro-credit interventions. In this regard, an exploratory research has been made to focus on the activities and impacts after receiving micro-credit from GB. A sample size of 100 respondents has been interviewed through a structured questionnaire, in-depth interview and observation from Jhenaidah and Kushtia districts. The result shows that the women are more independent and can engage in decision making process after receiving and using micro credit.

Service Quality of Five Star Hotels in Bangladesh: An Empirical Assessment
Although the importance of service quality and service quality measurement have been recognized, there are limited researches that have addressed the structure and antecedents of the concept for the hotel industry in Bangladesh. The clarification of the dimensions of service quality is inevitable for the managers in the hotel industry as these identify the bundles of service attributes consumers find important. Therefore, this study aims to measure the service quality from the customers’ perspective of five star hotels in Bangladesh based on the SERVQUAL model. Three five star hotels (Ruposhi Bangla Hotel, Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel, and Radison Water Garden Hotel) out of four were selected for the purpose of the study. The study is based on the primary data collected from the respondents with the help of a self-administered questionnaire to measure the perception of service quality characteristics of the five star hotels. Data analysis has been done using SPSS software and a factor analysis has been conducted to measure the differences among the factors affecting service quality perceptions. To measure the service quality gap, five dimensions related to hotel industry were identified. The analysis shows that the service quality of the five star hotels is highly dependent on the physical appearance, interior decoration, food quality, behavior of the employees, security system, and customized services given to individual customers.
 
Problematic Issues of E-Banking Management in Bangladesh
In Bangladesh, banking industry is getting mature to a great extent than earlier period. With the launching of internet the world has become a smaller one. Remarkable development in ICT has introduced a global revolution in banking sectors. Beside the every sector in social life it has rendered enormous impacts on banking sector. Internet together with other information and communication technologies are not only driving financial global economies but also transforming societies into knowledge-based economies around the world. As a third world developing country, Bangladesh is far behind to reach the expected level in global banking system. So it is our urgent need to upgrade its banking system. The main focus of this study is to examine the performance, problems and prospects of E-banking in Bangladesh. This paper is also aimed at to determine the present scenario of e-banking and banking sectors in Bangladesh and at the same time it demonstrated the scope and benefits of e-banking compared with the existing sector. The study is descriptive in nature. So this study has been done mainly based on secondary sources of data or information which sources included different published articles, books, newspaper, and websites.

Inflation Led Import or Import Led Inflation: Evidence from Bangladesh
This study investigates the relationship between inflation and import for the economy of Bangladesh over the sample period of 2000 to 2011. This study used different econometric techniques of measuring the long and short term relationship between variables. The Johansen Cointegration test is used to determine the existence of a long term relationships between study variables. The normalized Cointegrating coefficients are found statistically significant and show a stable and positive relationship between study variables. The short run interactions are similar to the long run relationships. The estimated error correction coefficient indicates that 0.6 percent deviation of the inflation rate from its long run equilibrium level is corrected each period where such correction rate for import is 24 percent. Finally, Granger causality analysis suggests the existence of a unidirectional causality running from Inflation to import.

Traffic Congestion in Bangladesh- Causes and Solutions: A study of Chittagong Metropolitan City
One of the most challenging and complicated issues in city management in the present decade for Bangladesh is the traffic problem. It is a very common phenomenon in almost all the cities of Bangladesh. Presently, traffic congestion problem in Bangladesh are increasing at an alarming rate. The traffic problem has become to a very dangerous arena and has already implicit agonizing extent in the cities of Bangladesh. This type of study has been conducted in Dhaka but not in Chittagong city. Traffic management in Chittagong is not well organized as Dhaka so that the problem is becoming more complicated as the number of people in Chittagong is increasing and it is getting the priority after Dhaka. This article is dedicated to determine the current condition of traffic management in Chittagong City. This article explore the causes involved in traffic congestion including heavy concentration of vehicles, absence of adequate public transport, inadequate road infrastructure, faulty signaling equipment and poor enforcement of traffic rules. At the end of the paper the researchers tried to identify the solution of traffic jam in Chittagong Metropolitan City.

Total Quality Management as a Tool for Decision Making
TQM means keeping the organization running smoothly with continuous input from our owners/customers. The major components of TQM are quality information, rewards for results, cooperation, secured jobs, fairness, equitable compensation, employees ownership stake etc the guiding principles are customer satisfaction safety, elimination of errors and defects, continuous improvement, employee empowerment etc The major constraints are lack of top management support, commitment, over dependence on computerized quality control, no market research, management by fear etc .
