    Rethinking Brand Identity to Become an Iconic Brand - A Study on Pepsi

    One of the leading brands, Pepsi has battled time to time for getting success in the Cola industry by developing different slogans, ideas, celebrity endorsement, campaigns and other marketing efforts. These never ending quests for growth and market share are not always ended with positive notes because of miss fire of strategies. The focus of the paper is to identify current position and rebranding issues regarding Pepsi along with the ways to make it an iconic brand. In the first part of this paper, Holt’s concept has been used to analyze Pepsi Cola’s history and current position to establish whether and if yes to which extent this brand has managed to become iconic. The second part is dedicated towards developing and suggesting a future course of action for the company that would enable it once again becoming an iconic brand.  JEL Classification Code:  M3

    Customer satisfaction is asset .At present clients are so much conscious and sensitive about the services what they receive. The study focused on testing of banking services in Bangladesh to know the gap between customer expectation and customer satisfaction. Findings of the study clearly suggest that clients are overall satisfied, and their attitude is very positive towards Prime Bank Limited Rangpur Branch. It also shows that they are not delighted with existing services. The study recommends putting more attention for the services, providing something new to the customers to gain competitive advantage and have an impact for a long time and help developing the sector with a fair competitive environment. &nbsp

    Study on the Relationships among Marketing Information System Quality and Brand Equity Management in Banking Sector

    Marketing information system plays critical role in improving brand power and long-term profitability. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between marketing information system quality (MKISQ) and brand equity management (BEM) within the banking sector. Results show that the three components of the MKISQ: marketing information quality, marketing support service quality, and marketing orientation quality Influence brand equity.     Compete or Cooperate: Understanding of the Relationship Levels of Firms within same Industry

    This paper tries to address various dimensions of the firm relationship that are competing in the same industry. Competitive strategies play important role for a firm\u27s survival and to achieve sustainable competitive advantage. However, firms can also decide to cooperate with each other through mobilization of resources to ensure mutual benefit and thus promote healthy competition. A strategic dilemma may occur for competing firms to cooperate with other who traditionally believe in competition, profit orientation, and self-interest. This paper tries to address firm level responses and interactions amongst each other in various consequences by  relying on exploratory method of research. Firms competing in the same industry may opt for four different strategic options named as , competition, cooperation, coexistence and coopetition. Through the literature review, different forms of firm level relationships are explained under these four strategic options. This paper argues that cooperation is beneficial and may complement healthy competition amongst competing firms.   JEL Classification Code:  L10, L1

    Motivation behind Bicycling Habit in Sylhet City of Bangladesh

    The study was conducted in the Sylhet City of Bangladesh. The purpose of the study is to explore the motivational factors behind bicycling habit in Sylhet. Analysis of secondary data and a focus group session with pioneer cyclists contributed in obtaining variables for the study. A sample of 100 respondents of Sylhet participated in this study. Judgemental sampling technique has been used to obtain data from self-administered structured questionnaire. Statistical analyses used in the survey are Exploratory Factor Analysis to identify factors and Frequencies for analysing demographic variables. The result of the study explains four factors. Findings show that the favorable factors towards cycling are Factor 1, Health and Factor 2, Convenience. Factor 3, Weather and Factor 4 Security are deterrent factors in cycling.The research findings provide wider scope for urban planning and catering of promotional strategies by bicycle marketers. In an overly populated country like Bangladesh, bicycling can give us a congestion free road and the plociy makers can grab this opportunity to make a better strategy for urban planning.     Relationship between Ownership Structure and the Modes of Dividend Payment: A Study on Dhaka Stock Exchange

    This paper investigates whether percentage of ownership controlled by the directors of companies has any association with types of dividend declared by them. Based on the data for the years 2006 to 2009 from the Dhaka Stock Exchange, this paper found that most of the companies provided stock dividends rather than cash dividends. Using Yate’s Continuity Correction Chi-square Test, this study has found existence of a significant relationship between the percentage control of ownership and types of dividend declared. Furthermore, the study indicates that the companies having ≥50% share controlled by the directors are 3 times more likely to offer stock dividends than companies having <50% control of the shares by the directors. Whereas, the companies having ≥50% control of ownership by the directors are less likely to offer cash dividends compared with <50% control of the shares by the directors

    Mushroom as a Mechanism to Alleviate Poverty, Unemployment and Malnutrition

    Mushroom is the most popular delicious, nutritious and medicinal vegetable in the world. Now it is considered as the most promising concept for crop diversification. It has been regarded as an effective means for poverty alleviation in less developed countries due to its potential for a quick, high return of profit on a small investment. Bangladesh is one of the most suitable countries in the world for Mushroom cultivation due to its favorable climate, cheap raw materials and labor cost and high market price. It is such an income generating concept that can alleviate poverty and eradicate malnutrition. It can also create employment opportunities for landless beggar, educated and uneducated youth, person with disabilities and adolescent men and women respectively. The primary objective of the study is to alleviate poverty, unemployment and malnutrition through cultivating and selling mushroom. The study is analytical and theoretical in nature and based on the secondary data. However, personal interview has been conducted to the mushroom farmers to depict the cost and profitability of Mushroom cultivation. The study finds that Mushroom cultivation can open a new opportunity for landless and unemployed people as it does not require any cultivable land and can be grown in a room by racking vertically. One can earn nearly TK 4-5 thousands a month by investing only TK 10-15 thousands. So, it is possible to make a handsome profit by investing a small amount of capital and labor in Mushroom cultivation
