    Accounting Information System as a Strategic Decision Making Tool in Banking Sector: Evidence from Bangladesh

    The core of any organization is accounting information, through which organizations become able to understand the financial situation of the business and they uses this accounting information from integration system as a basis for making strategic decisions. Since premeditated decisions have long term effect on the business and therefore it is important to analyze information from accounting information system for making long-term planned decisions. This study aiming to find out the impact of accounting information system as a strategic decision making tool focusing on the banking sector of Bangladesh. After conducting a questionnaire survey among 40 different private and public banks from Bangladesh, result shows that out of total respondent 72.5% are using this tool frequently on their Bank. I believe that this study will be able to find out importance of accounting information system as a strategic decision making tool in banks from developing countries. And this study will be helpful for the other developing countries banks if they are planning for implementing accounting information system as a decision making tool

    360 Degree Feedback as a Technique of Performance Appraisal: Does it Really Work?

    The overall performance of a firm is mostly dependent on the individual and group performance of the organization. Performance appraisal is a continuous process of monitoring, managing and correcting the individual performance of entire workforce. 360 degree feedback is considered as one of the yardsticks of performance appraisal process which reduces and changes the traditional supervisor based appraisal method. This qualitative study has been carried out to discover whether 360 degree feedback is effective as the part of overall performance appraisal process highlighting results from previously conducted researches and also, made an attempt to deliver some recommendations about how to use it more efficiently. Results from the previous studies revealed that 360 degree feedback is an effective method for appraising employee performance despite of having a few drawbacks and can be more useful if integrated with some traditional methods

    Consumers’ Expectation and Perception toward Mobile Telecommunication Usage in Bangladesh

    Recently telecommunication sector like the mobile phone has made a revolution in the world. For the last few years, it has become part and parcel of our daily life. Business, commerce, and society cannot go out without the use of mobile phone. With the continuous diversification, the use of mobile is not only limited to talking, but its use ranges from using internet, sending messages, listening to music, to organizing various works are comfortably completed in time. City Cell Company introduced the use of mobile phone in Bangladesh in the middle of 1989 .Now with the lapse of time; another five operators have in the market. The mobile operators need to understand well, the perceptions of service quality of customers and their expectations. The study “Consumers’ expectations and perception toward mobile telecommunication usage in Bangladesh” attempts to analyze the gap in telecom sector regarding customers’ expectations and perceptions. It is important to investigate the differences which may provide scope for improvement of mobile service operators. Descriptive analysis, cross tabulation, Chi-square, frequency distribution was used to test the collected data and hypotheses of the research study. The study concludes that, given the severe competition in the business arena where mobile operators have to stay alive and breed by pricing strategy, network facilities, and promotional activities. Telecom companies will have to focus on the reduction of the gap in customer expectations and perceptions about their service quality if they are to race internationally. Hence, mobile operators should continually assess and reassess how customers perceive their services and to implement appropriate corrective action for retaining the existing customers and getting new customers

    Organizational Culture: An Empirical Study on Selected Garment Factories in Bangladesh

    The study is an attempt to identify and measure the perceived organizational culture in selected sample factories in the ready-made garments (RMG) sector. Based on the concept of the OCTAPACE framework – an acronym for ‘Openness’, ‘Confrontation’, ‘Trust’, ‘Authenticity’, ‘Pro-action’, ‘Autonomy’, ‘Collaboration’, and ‘Experimentation’, data were collected using OCTAPACE profile questionnaire developed by Dr. Udai Pareek. A total of 276 respondents, of which 70 are managers and 206 are workers were interviewed from 35 garment factories located in the Gazipur district of Bangladesh. Data was analyzed with Kolmogorov-Smirnov, Shapiro-Wilk and Mann-Whitney U tests as well as other suitable statistical tools. The results show that there is a significant difference in perception between managers and workers towards “Openness” and “Autonomy”. The study also identifies the strong, fairly strong and weak aspects of culture in terms of values and beliefs that prevail in the selected organizations. Finally, the degree and direction of correlation between the various elements of the OCTAPACE profile are measured for developing and maintaining a better organizational culture. A fresh graduate joining into the workforce faces new challenges every day and mostly the Work-Life balance issue which is related to his or her job satisfaction and ultimately commitment towards his organization. It is a concept where business organizations apart from their profitability and growth show interest in societal and environmental welfare by taking the responsibility of impact of their activities on stake holders, employees, shareholders, customers, suppliers, and civil society. However, in developing nations the situation of CSR activities of financial institutions is not so flourishing. The aims of this study are to investigate the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities performed by ten commercial banks in Bangladesh and explore the potential social impacts and sustainability in the future. This study also traced to find the relationship among operational performance by contributing CSR activities. CSR activities affect social attention to the customers and related stakeholders.     The aim of this paper is to analyze the financial performance of three selected Islamic Banks (Islami Bank Bangladesh Limited, Export Import Bank of Bangladesh Limited, Shahjalal Islami Bank Limited) over a period of eight years (2007-2014) in Bangladeshi banking sectors. For this reason, CAMEL Rating Analysis approach has been conducted and it is found that all the selected Islamic Banks are in strong position on their composite rating system.     Does Recruitment Develop a Corporate Image to Attract Talented Candidates for Hiring in Bangladesh?

    Recruitment is one of the major functions of Human Resource Management (HRM) which is the process of attracting qualified candidates. Recruitment depends on some factors like recruitment cost, budget and sources of recruitment, etc. This study finds out how job advertisement and other recruitment methods develop corporate image and then it reveals how developed corporate image influence, talented candidates, to apply for the job. This study is a predominantly qualitative nature and presents study findings through the in-depth interview methods. Purposive sampling has used for selecting respondents. Respondents are potential candidates like fresh graduates, final year students, new employees as well as expert HR personnel. The study found that most of the candidates prefer multinational companies as well as reputed local organization to join because of their positive images. Respondents believe that employees of these companies are getting more facilities, more advancement and higher pay and benefits. Moreover, talent candidates also get information about the company from different job advertisement. Organization tries to create an attractive job advertisement by mentioning some information like salary structure, facilities, benefits, working environment and so on. This information mainly influences the candidate’s intention for applying in the organizations. In addition to this, new organizations often prefer to participate in the job fair and different career seminar for creating a positive company image.     Analyzing Tobin’s Q Ratio of Banking Industry of Bangladesh: A Comprehensive Guideline for Investors

    Due to the share market crash in 2010-2011, the investors have lost confidence regarding the share market till now. Therefore, this study is an endeavor to giveaway to rethink about the share market of Bangladesh and to increase the confidence of the investors. For that, Tobin’s Q ratio used to analyze the share market in this study. Tobin’s Q represents the ratio of the market value of a firm\u27s share capital to the replacement cost of the firm\u27s share capital. Tobin’s Q is greater than one means stock is overvalued. Tobin’s Q is less than one means stock is undervalued. Again, Tobin’s Q is equal to one means stock is fairly valued. The study found that, the value of Tobin’s Q of the all sampling banks is gradually decreasing means moving the value of the stock from overvalued to undervalue. The value of Tobin’s Q of the all sampling banks is less than one in the year 2014 except Dutch Bangla Bank Limited (DBBL). The average value of Tobin’s Q of the banking industry is also decreasing and the average value of Tobin’s Q of the banking industry is less than one in the year 2014. Thus, the average stock value of the banking industry is moving from overvalued to undervalue gradually. Again, the value of Tobin’s Q of all sampling banks fell down drastically from the year 2010 to the year 2011 as share market has been crashed in those years. As a result, the average value of Tobin’s Q of banking industry also fell down drastically from the year 2010 to the year 2011. Therefore, the value of the share slopes down drastically from the year 2010 to the year 2011. &nbsp
