Measuring the Presence of Wetness in Vapour Flow Using Optical Imaging Technique
Two-phase flows consisting of vapour and liquid, are critical for the efficient operation of energy transfer and energy storage systems. This study demonstrates the use of the optical imaging technique of shadowgraphy, combined with acustom-developed image processing algorithm, to enable real-time, non-invasive assessment of the quality of two-phase flows. By mining data from high-speed imaging and applying pattern analysis and recognition techniques within ImageJ, vapour quality was accurately estimated at the onset of wetness in steam flow conditions. Measurements at 50 m/s flow velocity and 1.3 bar pressure revealed a vapour content of 0.983, validated against condensate trap and mass flow balanced data. The presented methodology advances optical measurement technique for twophase flows, which offers potential in field-based process control requiring accurate fluid status characterisation
Detection Dog Survey Detects African Wild Dog Presence and a Shared Marking Site
African wild dog (Lycaon pictus) populations are difficult to assess effectively and scalable strategies for population monitoring are lacking, often because of low detection rates. Scat detection dogs (Canis lupus familiaris) have emerged as a suitable tool to detect the presence of wide-ranging carnivores. In this study, we employed a detection dog to locate African wild dog scat in an unfenced, understudied region of the Kavango-Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation Area. Over 2 weeks of fieldwork, the detection dog-team found 21 African wild dog scats within a 2304 km2 study area. Six of those scats were detected at a marking site shared by multiple African wild dog individuals, as determined through genetic identification. The marking site discovered by the scat detection dog facilitated the collaring of two African wild dogs in close proximity, the repeat detection of wild dog individuals on camera trap, the collection of additional scat samples, and the highest recording of individuals per site from camera traps (n = 5) and genetic verification (n = 5). This highlights the value of marking sites for improved long-term monitoring for this elusive species. To our knowledge, we report the first use of a detection dog to find wild dog scat and discover a shared marking site. Our findings hold promise for the potential of detection dogs to rapidly survey this wide-ranging, endangered canid.</p
Charting Trustworthiness: A Socio-Technical Perspective on AI and Human Factors
Integrating AI into critical decision-making environments, including cybersecurity, highlights the importance of understanding human factors in fostering trust and ensuring safe human-AI collaboration. Existing research emphasizes that personality traits, such as openness, trust propensity, and affinity for technology, significantly influence user interaction with AI systems, impacting trustworthiness and reliance behaviours. Furthermore, studies in cybersecurity underscore the socio-technical nature of threats, with human behaviour contributing to a significant portion of breaches. Addressing these insights, the study discusses the development and validation of a questionnaire designed to assess personality-driven factors in AI trustworthiness, advancing tools to mitigate human-centric risks in cybersecurity. Building on interdisciplinary foundations from cyberpsychology, human-computer interaction, and behavioural sciences, the questionnaire evaluates dimensions including ethical responsibility, collaboration, technical competence, and adaptability. Subject matter experts systematically reviewed items to ensure face and content validity, reflecting theoretical and empirical insights from prior studies on human behaviour and cybersecurity resilience. The tool’s scoring system employs weighted Likert-scale responses, enabling detailed evaluations of trust dynamics and identifying key areas for intervention. By bridging theoretical and applied perspectives, this research contributes to advancing the role of human factors in cybersecurity, offering actionable insights for the design of trustworthy AI systems and calibrated trust practices
Blockchain success in the post-adoption phase:extending the information systems success model with supply chain complexity
This study investigates blockchain’s effectiveness and the drivers of its success in supply chain management. Drawing upon the Information Systems Success post-adoption model and Contingency Theory, we propose a moderated mediation analysis to analyze the relationships among extended use, user satisfaction, individual benefits, supply chain complexity, and their impact on performance outcomes at both the supply chain and individual firm levels. The model was validated by using survey data from a cross-sectional sample of 370 supply chain professionals from the United States with blockchain experience. Our findings indicate that individual benefits mediate the impact of extended use and user satisfaction on supply chain and operational performance, while supply chain complexity positively moderates the indirect effect of extended use on supply chain performance through individual benefits. This suggests that blockchain adoption is more impactful in complex supply chain contexts with numerous processes, stakeholders, and data sources. These results highlight the importance of adequately considering the supply chain context to fully understand the effectiveness of blockchain technology. This study contributes to the nascent literature on the blockchain post-adoption phase and proposes a new extension to the Information Systems Success model by incorporating supply chain complexity as a contextual factor

Telepresence Stage Case Study:CRIPtic Arts
Residency overviewCRIPtic Arts had previously developed digital work for the stage and observed that it enabled them to work with a wider range of participants. They aimed to utilise the Telepresence Stage residency to build their expertise in integrating remote performance technology into their performance toolkit, to train the wider team in these skills, enabling them to work with a more national range of performers, regardless of the physical location of the theatre. They were also particularly interested in integrating live and recorded material, such as when working with British Sign Language translation. CRIPtic Arts were interested in physical interaction and remote performance, particularly how physical space could be occupied in a tactile manner. They were curious about the impact of integrating live digital elements into the performance and the boundary-breaking possibilities this offered, for example, performers ‘escaping’ from apparent Zoom windows. Finally, they wanted to test how a virtual stage could maintain a sense of live energy and how this might interact with other access provisions, such as captioning.Techniques and solutionsFrom the outset, CRIPtic Arts wanted to explore hybrid techniques and solutions, combining online and theatre space productions. Their residency experiments reshaped many of their ideas about staging Jamie Hale’s ‘Quality of Life Is Not a Measurable Outcome’ as a hybrid experience. This led them to explore options such as embedding performers in the audience space, live-streaming them to the stage, and developing methods for interactive performances with performers in any location.Reflections and outcomesCRIPtic Arts produced a 15-minute section of ‘Quality of Life Is Not a Measurable Outcome’ involving live online actors in the UK and a dancer from Singapore, as well as pre-recorded performers and digital scenography. This included a pre-recorded British Sign Language (BSL) performer for a small section of the show, synchronously delivered with spoken English, with corresponding words and signs occurring at the same time. This was explored for the first time on a Telepresence Stage, integrating these two elements as an accessible and effective translation
