The role of oxygen vacancies in (photo)electrocatalytic properties of ZnO

In the 21st century, when we are facing an energy crisis as one of the major global problems, the idea developed in 1972 by Fujishima and Honda about the hydrogen production by solar-driven photoelectrochemical (PEC) water splitting using semiconductor (TiO2) as a photoanode is more popular than ever. It is known that crystalline defects can have a great impact on optical and electrical properties of a semiconductor used as a photoanode for PEC. Surface defects can improve absorption capacity while bulk defects, commonly oxygen vacancies, can act as recombination centers leading to the loss of photocatalytic efficiency. Thus, understanding the relationship between oxygen vacancies and (photo)electrocatalytic efficiency is important for successful application of semiconductor as a photoanode materials. During the years, we have used different approaches to modify surface-to-bulk oxygen vacancies ratio in ZnO crystal structure. Amount and type of oxygen vacancies have been tailored employing different surfactants (PEO, CTAB, Pluronic F127, etc.) or graphene oxide as additive during microwave processing of Zn(OH)2 precipitate, as well as by additional annealing of prepared ZnO-based particles. To comprehend the influence of oxygen vacancies on (photo)electrocatalytic activity of ZnO-based particles, at first, their crystal structure, morphological, textural, and optical properties have been investigated in details, then (photo)electrocatalytic activity for both hydrogen and oxygen evolution reactions (HER and OER) have been tested in acidic and alkaline electrolytes using linear voltammetry. The influence of amount and type of oxygen vacancies on (photo)electrocatalytic activity have been discussed and correlated with charge separation and radiative recombination of photogenerated electron-hole pairs

Gennadios Scholarios, the first Ecumenical Patriarch under Ottoman rule, authored a brief chronographical work entitled Chronographia. This historiographical work, as his final written piece, can also be understood as an expression of his conception of time. Contemporary approaches to Byzantine identity studies highlight the intimate and inseparable connection between identity and the notion of time. An analysis of this particular work reveals how varying perceptions of time correspond to distinct identities.Истраживање је спроведено уз подршку Фонда за науку Републике Србије, пројекат #GRANT 10932, (Trans-)Formation of Identities: Orthodox Christians in the Ottoman Balkans (c.1450-c.1750) – FORMIDOX

This paper will analyze the motive form pras- and its suffixed derivatives from a word formation, semantic and cognitive linguistic perspective. Once the derivational directions are determined and presented, their semantic analysis will be initiated. Our goal is to establish the cognitive-semantic mechanisms which enable the development of new meanings. The meanings of derivati ves will be observed by determining how the semantics of the motive form pras- is reflected in the lexicon of its derivational nest. The development of secondary meanings of many derivatives is based on the mechanisms of conceptual metaphors and metonymies, as well as synesthetic transfers, which will be listed and described in detail. The analysis was conducted on the unpublished material of the Dictionary of the Serbo Croatian Literary and Vernacular Languageof the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts, which includes the lexicon of the given lexico-semantic group from the entry pras to prasnuti, which belongs to the same derivational nest

THE SCRIPT OF THE SERBIAN LANGUAGE AND LITERACY IN ITSELF

    No full text
This paper presents a theoretical and methodological framework for addressing the status of the two scripts in the new Serbian orthography, based on historical data about Cyrillic as a Slavic script and specifically as a Serbian script throughout history and today. To develop an appropriate framework, key concepts and terms are precisely defined, including grammatology, graphemics, graphematics, grapheme, letter, allograph, digraph, diacritic mark, graphy, orthography, and others. The development of Serbian Cyrillic is analysed in a broader sociolinguistic context, from its origins in the 12th century to its final formation in the early 19th century. Serbian Cyrillic is identified as one of the historical manifestations of Cyrillic, which was specifically developed to meet the needs of recording the Slavic language (during the creation of Old Church Slavic as the literary form of Proto-Slavic). In this sense, it is concluded that Serbian culture predominantly belongs to what can be termed the Cyrillic Slavic World (Pāx Slāvia Cyrillica), a term introduced here for the first time, analogous to Pāx Slāvia Orthodoxa and Pāx Slāvia Latīna (Rōmāna). The more recent history of Serbian Cyrillic in the 18th and 19th centuries is examined through the unsystematic reforms of Dositej Obradović, Atanasije Stojković, Sava Tekelija, Pavle Solarić, and Jovan Došenović. These reforms culminated in the foundational changes introduced in 1810 by Sava Mrkalj and Luka Georgijević Milovanov, leading to the modern form of the Serbian script as defined by Vuk Karadžić in his Serbian Dictionary of 1818. The paper also identifies current issues concerning Cyrillic as the official script in the Republic of Serbia.

Serbian Gypsy Jazz: Origins, Development, Results

    No full text
This study investigates the genesis and development of a popular music style, Serbian gypsy jazz, utilizing Radoslav Đokić’s sociological theory of cultural hybrids and paradigmatic transformations. In the Serbian context, the term gypsy jazz encompasses two discernible traditions: one stemming from the original French jazz manouche or jazz tsigane of Django Reinhardt, and the other an authentic local hybrid genre. This research focuses specifically on the latter – the indigenous Serbian hybrid. The methodology involves analyzing the origins of Serbian gypsy jazz and tracing its four distinct stages of evolution, supported by various musical examples. To illustrate the final stage of cultural permeation, I concentrate on the output of the versatile Serbian singer, composer, and multi-instrumentalist, Ljubiša Stojanović Louis (1952–2011)

Yugoslavia and Eurocommunism: Yugoslavia and the Italian Communist Party in the Sixties and the Seventies

    No full text
This book examines the relationship between Yugoslav and Italian communists in the 1960s and the 1970s, with particular emphasis on the 1970s and the emergence of Eurocommunism. Focusing on the League of Communists of Yugoslavia and the Italian Communist Party, it analyses the interaction between the two most reformist parties within the international communist movement and their shared attempts to rethink and transform communism under changing domestic and international conditions. The study explores the political, ideological, and strategic factors that brought the two parties closer together, including their mutual distancing from Soviet orthodoxy and their emphasis on national roads to socialism. At the same time, the book carefully examines the limits of this convergence. By tracing cooperation, dialogue, and tensions between the two parties, the book sheds light on broader debates about reform, legitimacy, and innovation within late Cold War communism, offering new insights into the possibilities and contradictions of socialist transformation in the 1970s

Serbian dialectology in the new century

Serbian dialectology in the new century. The paper presents a brief overview of activities in dialectological research in the 21st century, which build upon work done in previous periods: describing vernacular speeches, recording and analyzing dialectal vocabulary, determining the areas of three previously known phonological features in Serbian vernaculars (the prephonologization of what was formerly vowel quantity into vowel quality, i.e., the different fates of long and short vowels e and o in the Prizren – South Morava dialect area; the phonological individuality of the old jat sound; and the so-called Kopaonik neoacute), as well as the area of the newly discovered short neoacute accent. It is observed that, despite unfavourable historical and political circumstances, the number of dialectological monographs is growing, dialectal lexicography (especially in southern and eastern Serbia) continues to develop, and, importantly, work on local and international linguistic projects has been developing without interruptions, despite numerous challenges. Additionally, alongside traditional efforts to describe the phonological, morphological, and lexical levels of vernacular speeches (before they change completely), research into dialectal syntax is becoming increasingly prominent in Serbian dialectology
