African Lessons for a European Alliance. The Role of Africa in the Relations Between the Yugoslav and Italian Communists
This paper examines in detail how the Yugoslav and Italian parties viewed Africa in their discussions over the long period from 1945 to 1980. Within these exchanges, a certain Yugoslav paternalism toward Africa emerged. The Yugoslav leadership promoted a global socialist vision that differed from the Soviet one - shared by their Italian comrades. These differences surfaced in discussions on a number of issues, but they became particularly clear in debates concerning Africa. Yugoslav sources further reveal that the League of Communists of Yugoslavia (LCY) did not seek merely to defend its African policies. Rather, the Yugoslav leadership hoped to influence its Italian counterparts. Belgrade aimed to challenge Soviet dogmas and to promote an alternative outlook on Africa and on socialism more broadly. The history of these Yugoslav efforts constitutes the central focus of this paper
Srbi, iako naseljeni u geografski udaljenoj i relativno izolovanoj ostrvskoj državi Komonvelta Australije, nisu ostali imuni na političke i društvene promene u domovini. Međunarodna znanstvena konferencija “Nakon ratova: posljedice, pouke, interpretacije” u organizaciji časopisa Tragovi (Zagreb) i Instituta društvenih nauka (Beograd). Scultura marginale medievale serba.

THE HYDRONYM MORAVA: A REVIEW OF ETYMOLOGICAL HYPOTHESES
In the context of Slavic hydronymy, the Morava River occupies a special place as an endemic phenomenon characteristic of the Middle Danube region. There is no consensus regarding its etymology. This paper reviews and synthesizes previous hypotheses and concludes that the existing etymology of the macrohydronym Morava can be classified into pre-Slavic (Proto-Celtic, Illyrian, Thracian, Dacomesian) and Slavic. There are currently four theses on its root meanings. Drawing on V. Ivanov’s and V. Toporov’s observations about the homonymy of the Slavic mythonym Morjana/Morena/Marzanna and the roots ∗mor- and ∗mer-, the author identifies motifs in Slavic folklore that suggest a connection to a single ideological substrate: the sea as death. This connection is supported by the symbolism of water as a medium of death, a common theme in many Indo-European mythologies
Speakers’ Attitudes Toward the Normative Pronunciation of Certain Words with a (Predominantly) Long Falling Accent on the Medial Syllable in Practice
The subject of this research is the attitudes of Serbian language speakers toward the normative pronunciation of certain loanwords that, in practice, most commonly bear a long falling accent on the medial syllable (e.g., ambasador, radijator, televizija, etc.). The aim of the study is to explore how speakers perceive this segment of the accentual norm of standard Serbian and to what extent they find it acceptable. The corpus was collected using a questionnaire specifically designed for the purposes of this research, which included audio recordings of the aforementioned types of words, pronounced according to the normative rules of standard Serbian. These examples were excerpted from various television programs, and participants were asked to evaluate the recordings based on specific criteria: correctness, normativity, neutrality, naturalness, aesthetic appeal, and prestige of pronunciation. Participants were also given the opportunity to explain their responses. The results obtained were subjected to quantitative analysis to determine whether the evaluative judgments of speakers from various dialectal regions differ. We also examined whether factors such as gender and education level correlate with participants’ attitudes toward the phenomenon under study. Furthermore, we relate these findings to the first part of the research, which focused on the normative pronunciation of certain words that, in practice, most commonly feature a short falling accent on the final syllable. The results of the study may serve as a guideline for considering potential directions for adapting the accentual norm
Children’s Urban Experiences During the Covid-19 Pandemic
This paper focuses on children’s urban experiences during the
COVID-19 pandemic, specifically examining how public spaces
in the city were used in the first months that followed the lifting
of the state of emergency. Declared in the Republic of Serbia on March 15, 2020,
it was imposed in response to the outbreak of the infectious respiratory disease
caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus. The use of public space was observed in the
broadest possible sense – as the sum of activities in the „shared” urban space –
without a particular focus on some of the key aspects of children’s urban experiences, such as children’s mobility, their spatial autonomy, institutionalization of free
time, etc. In this context, the focus of the research is on children’s daily life, specifically their everyday activities in the public space of the city during the period
of the so-called „new normal“. Methodologically, the paper relies on the results of
field research conducted in September 2024, involving 10 elder school-age children
(7th grade), aged 12 and 13, of both genders, living in the urban neighbourhood of

Seasonal fluctations in Ohrid (North Macedonia): The need for regenerative tourism
The town of Ohrid in North Macedonia, as declared a World Heritage site, experiences
severe tourism seasonality, with peak tourist arrivals in July-September. This study utilizes
seasonality indicators to reveal significant fluctuations in visitation contributing to environmental
degradation and overcrowding. Therefore, the research advocates regenerative tourism, emphasizing nature-positive practices. Regenerative tourism as approach provides insights for international and domestic destinations, highlighting the importance of sustainable management models to mitigate increasing tourism pressures
According to the UNICEF data from 2019, in the general population of women in Serbia aged 20 to 49 who have been married or are living in a common-law marriage, 7.9% entered their first union before the age of 18. Among their peers from Roma communities, this percentage is as high as 57.2% (UNICEF, 2020: 396).
Marriage among adolescent girls and boys, who are physically and psychosocially immature, uneducated, and economically dependent, can no longer be justified by the specific customs and traditions of a community. Understanding and combating this cultural practice requires an explicit public articulation of its harmful nature, particularly because this practice is forbidden by the Serbian legislative system and is a violation of universal human rights.
The persistence of the practice of the early marriage of Roma girls in the twenty-first century, a phenomenon with multiple harmful consequences for the Roma population, only confirms its complex and multidimensional nature and the necessity of considering it in interaction with numerous social factors, such as poverty, unemployment, education, social norms, customs and gender roles in the community, lack of efficiency among institutions and policy instruments, etc. This paper offers the concept of a marginalized environment as an explanatory framework within which the practice of child marriage among the Roma in Serbia has been functioning and been perpetuated (UNICEF, 2017).
By means of measures aimed to protect Roma children from all forms of neglect, violence, and abuse (formulating and implementing appropriate legal solutions, raising social awareness and providing alternatives to at risk children and their families), state authorities would significantly contribute to reducing existing prejudices against the Roma and empowering members of the Roma community in Serbia for more successful inclusion into Serbian society.
(formuliranje i primjena odgovarajućih zakonskih rješenja, promjena društvene
svijesti i osiguravanje alternative djeci u potencijalnoj opasnosti/riziku i njihovim
porodicama) državni organi bi značajno doprinijeli smanjenju postojećih predras
uda prema Romima i omogućili pripadnicima romske zajednice u Srbiji uspješnije
uključivanje u društvene tijekove
Surfactant-Assisted ZnO/GO Composite Electrocatalysts for HER and OER
The development of efficient (photo)electrocatalysts for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is crucial for advancing water splitting technologies. The increasing demand to replace expensive and scarce platinum group metals (PGMs) has intensified the search for alternative, abundant, and cost-effective catalysts. Zinc oxide (ZnO)-based materials present promising candidates due to their high electron mobility, efficient charge transfer, intrinsic stability, non-toxicity, and environmental compatibility. With the aim of improving the electrocatalytic performance of pristine ZnO, composites with graphene oxide (GO) without and with the aid of two different surfactants, a cationic cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB, C19H42BrN, Alfa Aesar, Ward Hill, MA, USA) and non-ionic Pluronic® F127 (Plu, EO106PO70EO106, Sigma-Aldrich), were synthesized using microwave processing of a Zn(OH)2 precipitate method. The physicochemical properties of synthesized ZnO/GO, ZnO/GO/CTAB, and ZnO/GO/Plu composites were characterized using X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), UV-Vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS), and photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy. The (photo)electrocatalytic activity of the prepared samples for HER and OER was evaluated by linear sweep voltammetry (LSV) in both acidic (0.1 M H2SO4) and alkaline (0.1 M NaOH) electrolytes. The observed (photo)electrocatalytic performance was correlated with the physicochemical properties of the composites
