Enhancing top managers' leadership with artificial intelligence : insights from a systematic literature review

    Get PDF
In the contemporary landscape of digital transformation (DT), the wave of artificial intelligence (AI) is radically restructuring the managerial processes of organizations. As a result, the influence of top managers is emerging as a determining factor in the effectiveness of business strategies related to AI innovation. Academics have provided a large body of literature on this topic, drawing on upper echelons theory, which states that top managers' leadership influences companies' strategic decisions and performance. Leaders have revolutionized their roles and skills to exploit the full potential of AI and integrate it into the business decision-making process effectively. However, given the fragmented nature of existing studies, a systematic literature review is needed to consolidate and clarify how AI impacts top managers' leadership. This paper presents findings involving bibliometric and content analysis tools, examining 63 articles from 31 highly ranked academic journals. Three research clusters emerge: (1) AI-driven skills of top managers' leadership; (2) factors driving top managers' decision to adopt AI in organizations; and (3) the strategic use of AI. The article contributes to upper echelons theory, providing a holistic perspective on top managers' leadership in the AI era and a guidance framework for successfully integrating AI in businesses. Finally, the study offers scholars avenues for future research and provides practical insights for top managers seeking to harness AI technologies to enhance their strategic leadership in organizations

A global framework for integrating public health into wellbeing : why a public wellbeing system is needed

    Get PDF
There is a growing focus on public health initiatives that prioritize wellbeing. The main question of our study is whether this, in its current form, can really represent a new response to the challenges of previous strategies, or whether there is a greater chance that it will essentially reproduce the problems associated with the paradoxical situation of public health. Based on a review, analysis and evaluation of the literature on wellbeing in public health, we outlined the foundations of a new meta-theory of wellbeing and a possibility for its social application. In our view, wellbeing is seen as a social representation of a combination of positive and negative freedom of choice concerning the quality of everyday life, used in a positioning process involving both individual and collective aspects. Health is a particular aspect of the social representation and positioning of wellbeing, which encompasses aspects of the physical, psychological, social and spiritual functioning of individuals. The wellbeing meta-theory also opens up the possibility for more effective solutions to the social challenges related to wellbeing and salutogenetic health. It underscores the importance of the need for a dedicated social subsystem where the goals and organizational culture of the organizations involved are focused on wellbeing and health promotion. In our study, we consider this to be the Public Wellbeing System (PWS). Our conclusion is that the development and operation of a new set of institutions—the Public Wellbeing System (PWS)—based on the co-production of services that meet the needs and demands of society, and dedicated to the promotion of wellbeing, may provide an opportunity to overcome the public health paradox

International product adaptation and performance : a systematic analysis of the literature and agenda for future research

    Get PDF
There is a lack of consensus on what the international product adaptation (IPA) concept involves, and only a partial understanding of its outcomes. Our analysis of the IPA-performance link uncovers, for the first time, the multidimensional nature of IPA. We show how the operational approaches used to explore IPA change its meaning across studies, demonstrate that IPA has different impacts across performance types, and highlight the range of mechanisms governing IPA’s performance relationships. We present a set of issues that need to be accounted for to build a better theory of IPA’s performance consequences, and a roadmap for future research

Sourcing insights elsewhere : the positive influence of academic engagement on scientific impact

    Get PDF
Multiple science policy initiatives in recent years have encouraged interaction between academic and non-academic actors as a way of aligning research priorities with societal challenges. Academic engagement, defined as scientists' knowledge-related interactions with non-academics, is recognised as crucial for promoting technological development and effectively addressing societal issues. However, whether such interactions stimulate or compromise fundamental scientific advances remains an open question. This paper contributes to the debate by exploring the extent to which academic engagement increases the production of cutting-edge research. We examine the relationship between scientists' interactions with non-academic actors and the production of high-impact research, using bibliometric indicators and primary data from a large-scale survey of scientists in all scientific fields affiliated with Spanish universities and public research organisations. Our results suggest an overall positive relationship between scientists' interaction with non-academic actors and the production of research findings with high scientific impact. We show, also, that this positive association is contingent on (i) the specific mode of interaction and (ii) the scientists’ previous scientific achievements. We find that modes of interaction that facilitate knowledge exchange and cooperation are particularly conducive to the publication of cutting-edge research, compared to unidirectional forms of knowledge exchange, and that renowned and reputable scientists are the best positioned to leverage the opportunities offered by partnerships with non-academic actors. © 2024 The Author

    A körforgásos gazdasági mutatók Magyarországon

    Get PDF

Price transmission and competition amid a series of crises : study of the Hungarian milk supply chain

    Get PDF
Purpose A series of crises, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, the energy crisis, the Russian war against Ukraine and drought, have significantly impacted agriculturalsupply chains globally, resulting in high inflation. This paper examines price transmission amid these crises in the Hungarian milk supply chain. Design/methodology/approach This study employed asymmetric error correction models to analyse Hungarian milk supply chain data between 2019 and 2022. Findings The study’sresultssuggest that milk processors have benefited from asymmetric price transmission. This phenomenon may be attributed to an imbalance between demand and supply, with high demand driven by government subsidies when supply chains are disrupted. Consequently, processors passed on cost increases without responding to demand fluctuations. Research limitations/implications The period under investigation encompassed multiple crises, making it challenging to determine the individual impacts of each crisis. Originality/value This study provides new evidence regarding price transmission in the context of crises affecting the demand and supply of dairy products in Hungary. The incorporation of the processing sector into the analysis enables a comprehensive investigation of all stages of the supply chain

Making a Cardinal Point : The Conceptualization of EAST and WEST in Hungarian Public Discourse

    Get PDF
In political discourse, cardinal points are more than reference points; they represent different cultural-political regions through conceptual metonymy. Cardinal points are often portrayed in opposition to each other; regions in the North are compared to the South, while the East is contrasted with the West. One peculiarity of these dichotomies is that regimes routinely shape them in a way that fits their political goals (cf. Rac, 2014). This is also true for Hungarian political communication, as the country’s belonging to the East or West has been debated throughout history. Thus, what exactly East and West stand for in public discourse appears flexible. To recover their various meanings, this paper identifies alternative conceptualizations of East and West and hypothesizes that 1) multiple metonymic target concepts of East and West exist in Hungarian news media and 2) the target concepts profile alternative (historical-cultural and political-economic) interpretations. In line with Brdar and Brdar-Szabó (2022), this study considers metonymy as a conceptual elaboration; therefore, it is one of the first empirical tests of this metonymy interpretation. The results corroborate the hypotheses as multiple metonymic target concepts are identified motivated by history and geopolitics

A tőke és munka részarányai Magyarországon

    Get PDF
Magyarországon 1960 és 2023 között a munka részesedése a bruttó hozzáadott értékből egy korábbi, fenntarthatatlanul magas részarányról a fejlett országok munkarészarányainál alacsonyabb szintre csökkent. Ez a folyamat a multinacionális tőke számára nem korlát, míg a nemzeti termelési tényezők fejlődését hátráltatja. A csökkenő vásárlóerő lassítja a tőke felhalmozását, és ugyancsak lassítja a munkának a fejlődését is. A folyamat jelentős katalizátora és korrekciójának gátja a Kelet-Európában kialakult sajátos kapitalizmusváltozat, amelynek meghaladása többek között az optimális tőke–munka osztozkodásnak is feltétele

A hazai felsőoktatásban a hallgatók körében egyre nagyobb érdeklődés tapasztalható a vállalkozási ismeretek fejlesztését érintő képzések iránt. A tanulmány célja kettős.

Financial literacy of finance students : a behavioral gender gap

    Get PDF
Purpose We aim to investigate the relationship between gender and financial literacy, hypothesizing that a gender gap in attitude, knowledge, and behavior might exist among university students, but it disappears at higher levels of financial education, particularly due to a talent management program in financial mathematics. Design/methodology/approach We analyze survey data from 229 Hungarian undergraduate university students specializing in finance. In the multivariate regression models, the independent variables are proxies for financial literacy and the key variables of interest are gender and participation in a talent management program, controlling for various socio-economic, psychological and behavioral variables. Findings We do not observe any gender gap in financial knowledge and attitudes among undergraduate finance students. However, female students are approximately 10% less likely than males to explore highly advantageous financial opportunities, even when all other characteristics like lifestyle, study performance, psychological traits, attitudes and knowledge are equal. This behavioral gender gap persists even among students who participate in the talent management program. Practical implications We propose that university program designers and finance educators place particular emphasis on addressing the behavioral aspects of financial literacy through gender-sensitive educational programs. Originality/value We contribute to the literature by comparing finance students’ financial literacy across knowledge, attitudes and behavior dimensions according to their gender and in a talent management program participation. Contrary to previous studies, we do not find a gender difference in the first two components, knowledge and attitudes. However, we provide evidence of a significant behavioral gender gap related to a long-lasting arbitrage opportunity
