This article investigates the spillover effect of a firm’s media ownership on reporting by unaffiliated mainstream media outlets, using a sample of Chinese publicly listed firms. We find that firms with ownership stakes in media companies receive more coverageandmorepositivetonesfromunaffiliatedmainstreammediaoutletsthanotherfirmsdo.Wealsofindevidencesuggesting mechanismsforthis effect: media ownership facilitates firms in building connections with unaffiliated media outlets. In addition, we find that this spillover effect of media ownership on unaffiliated media outlets is more prominent when market-investor sentiment is morepessimistic, when firms are in “sin” industries, and when firms encounter corporate scandals. Furthermore, we document that media ownership enhances the dissemination of information disclosure and increases firm value

Risk from Prosperity: Eurodollar Market and Emerging Markets

    No full text
The Eurodollar market is out of US monetary targets, but favorite financing item of emerging markets. Global economic prosperity raise the demand for Eurodollar loans but Fed’s dollar supply is not linked to the Eurodollar market. This generate an increasing risk in the emerging markets in proportion with their demand for Eurodollar financing. This can have an unwanted backslash on both emerging markets risk premium. After an extensive explanation of the risk mechanism, the paper analyze the linkage between US interest rates as a proxy of business cycle and the CDS premia of emerging countries between 2008 and 2024 on daily bases with VECM estimates. The results confirms that, in global prosperity indicated by lower US interest rate, the emerging countries with bigger exposure in external debt suffer bigger rise in their CDS premium as their risk indicator. Because of their higher cost of these countries can benefit less from growth trajectory of global business cycle and increase their risk of default

The creative and cultural industries, including theatre, are significantly affected by the development of artificial intelligence (AI). In the theatre sector, there is a need for a deeper understanding of the impact of AI in this area, but the amount of research on this topic is extremely limited. The aim of this paper was to explore, within a complex framework, the applications of AI in the operational, support and artistic areas of theatre. The study also sought to understand the concerns of theatre practitioners regarding the application of AI and to formulate recommendations for its effective integration. To address the research questions, a series of 24 semi-structured interviews were conducted, employing grounded theory methodology with theatre practitioners who already actively utilising AI in their work were or exploring its potential impact. The findings of the study indicate that the adoption of AI-based solutions in operational and support areas is predominantly a bottom-up initiative, primarily in marketing, audience management and sales. In contrast, experimentation with AI is more prevalent in independent theatres and contemporary productions within the artistic domain. However, opinions on the utilisation of AI remain divided. The study emphasises the significance of human creativity and the necessity for a nuanced exploration of the role of AI in theatre. It advocates for transparency, collaboration, education, regulation and policy advocacy to ensure responsible AI integration

Emission Control in an n-Firm Oligopoly Game with Product Differentiation

    No full text
Is it possible to control NPS (non-point source) pollution whose sources, sizes, and origins are difficult to identify? This study provides a positive answer in a non-cooperative n-firm oligopoly model in which the firms determine levels of differentiated goods and abatement technologies. It first derives a Cournot–Nash equilibrium in which the firms maximize their profit and emit pollution under the ambient charge scheme, combining rewards from the total NPS concentration less than a given standard with the penalties above. The effect of the ambient charge is then analytically shown in homogeneous and heterogeneous duopoly and triopoly. Further, possible controllability is numerically examined in the case of n ≥ 4

This study delved into the social acceptance process of urban refugees, investigating its significance as a pivotal barrier to their local integration. Following a comprehensive theoretical foundation, the research examined variables influencing refugee social acceptance and factors impacting this process, employing a survey method with a sample size of 519 individuals in Ar-Ramtha city. The analysis uncovered compelling insights. Overall, the study revealed a notably positive level of social acceptance toward refugees within the local population. Across various dimensions—community acceptance, expectations, adaptation, security, economic and legal integration, and social integration—refugees received moderately high mean scores, indicating a generally favourable perception of their integration within the community. Moreover, the hypotheses scrutinising the influence of demographic and socio-economic factors—gender, marital status, age, education level, and income—on social acceptance levels produced intriguing results. These factors showcased no significant impact on the perceived social acceptance among refugees. Despite diverse backgrounds, refugees experienced a relatively uniform level of social acceptance, suggesting a more inclusive and consistent attitude towards their integration within Ar-Ramtha. Understanding these findings is pivotal in fostering an environment that embraces and supports the integration of refugees into the local community
